Pushing Amazon out of NYC because she didn't understand that NYC didn't hand over $3B is a big minus.

There is a huge difference between letting someone keep their own money vs giving them money from the public trust.

    She didn't know that.

Then again, ideally, Amazon should be pushed out of existence and not just out of NYC.

We're talking about a labor system that is literally cyber-controlling its employees to force them into rhythms well past acceptable health norms for miserable pay, and routinely holds happenings in their private lives against them. You'll excuse me for not being moved by a vague proclamation about the "evils of socialism" - and doubly so as a bloody conservative and really not a socialist - with regards to a business that's only rivaled by China in its progress towards effective implementation of Big Brother control.

My step son worked for them for about 3 months. While it was laborious, it wasn't what you are saying.

The evil of socialism is thinking that people who are doing better than you are doing so because they aren't paying their own way. They are cheating the system. That leads to hating those who are doing better than you are. It's dumb and emotionally immature.

You probably want to take a look at Amazon outside the USA and not just inside your family.

Meh, Amazon is not substantially worse than any other multinational company, which is most companies in some way. If you start singling out all the bad actions of companies, you'll go down a really deep rabbit hole and soon you won't be able to live in any structure or buy any items. Best to just try to put laws in place to regulate companies and actually make them pay taxes as best you can, rather than shaking your fist at the sky.

my personal hatred of amazon has mostly to do with my love of small, funky used bookstores. i also find shaking my fist at the sky a lot more simple and cathartic than somehow getting myself in charge of tax laws.

Not too many companies employ the technologies Amazon does to control their employees in and outside of work; Amazon is also one of those rare actors using AI to control their employees that has also made considerable progress with self-teaching AIs. That's my beef with them - they're lining up to complete the second effective Big Brother system on Earth (China is nearly done with securing first place). It goes a good bit beyond traditional systems of corporate control of their labor force, and is considerably more dangerous in the medium term. Trump's USA aren't going to be the ones getting in their way legally either.

I also don't exactly have the power to make regulations and enforce them in such a way that kind of threat ceases to exist ;)

Well. "It just is." There we have it. "It just is." You've totally convinced me with the sheer breadth and span of your supporting evidence.

Gosh, whomever gets Amazon's second HQ is certainly going to be sitting pretty.
... oh, wait. They abandoned that all together, as if they decided it wasn't worth it.

... but it's always fun watching Trump fanatics defending Amazon.

While I am a powerful congressman, head of the tax reform committee, yet have no desire to change tax codes. All I want to do is shake my fist at the sky. Alas, I don't have hands. @};-

That's not necessarily a practical impossibility to shake your fist at the sky.

Nah, it's just that it doesn't need to have been attached to your body at any point in order to be your fist.

    See above :p

Amazon is maybe the best example of money extraction in American business. They use public roads, public air transport, the USPS, yet what they give back to this country is virtually nothing. All take, next to no give-just the taxes their generally underpaid employees pay. Pure money extraction.

Let's say (and I don't really think this is likely) that Bernie gets the nomination. I wouldn't be surprised to see some Dems endorse Schultz...
