How about no? Does no work for you? How about hell no?

People are betting that Trump gets primaried? I'd think he'd die of a Big Mac overdose before that.

Trying to remember when the last time an incumbent, who was qualified to run again, lost his shot at being re-nominated. As to be no later than the late 19th century.

Well, there was Theodore Roosevelt, who lost out to Taft, but Taft was the incumbent, so that wouldn't count.

Booker absolutely comes across as inauthentic and opportunistic, and he does such a bad job at hiding it.

He'd rather run unironically on "loving Republicans will make them like us."

And then he sided with Mitt Romney in 2012 on banking and financial regulations, saying Obama was being too harsh on corporate power.

It was going to happen to LBJ if he didn't decide to not run for re-election after doing poorly in the first primaries.

I wish i could find that "LBJ gets Daisyfied" fic i wrote years ago where LBJ upsets a witch/warlock and they transform him into the Daisy Girl from his famous advert. LBJ trying to stay president as a female toddler puts the crack in crackfic...

On another note, I just saw Richard Ojeda on State of the Union...at first glance I like him a lot. He talked about how income inequality is hurting the working class, and how he sees children in West Virginia who are in worse conditions than the children he saw in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also talked about being pro-union and called Nancy Pelosi a “Goldman Sachs Democrat.”

Ojeda took one of the reddest districts in the country and made it purple.

Jeez, Obama kept them out of prison and afforded them golden parachutes, and still he was being too harsh?

Either the Democrats go populist in 2020 or they lose to Trump. And since the leadership is in the pocket of Big Business...

I know a lot of people are going to get hung up on him voting for / supporting Trump. But, what he was supporting was jobs for his home area. Something Hillary Clinton wasn't directly addressing.

Did Trump have a good plan? Was it forward thinking? Did it really have the best intentions for those people? No. Not at all.

But when you need a glimmer of hope, you often don't care about those things. Any hope is good hope.

So, yeah. I think he likely would have supported a different candidate with an actual plan for working while retaining and transforming the coal industry. But when the other option was "coal's not coming back, we gotta do something" ...

I don't think Ojeda can win the nomination. But I think in the digital/social media age, he can influence the policies the eventual winner runs on.

I’m also of the mindset that coal isn’t coming back, and shouldn’t, but Clinton’s issue, as we probably all know by now, was that she didn’t seem to care. Both she and Bill had some vague plan for retraining people but no follow up. Any candidate who wants to campaign in that area will need an addendum to “coal isn’t coming back”—a “but we are going to bring X number of jobs to your area, jobs which will be easy to train for and will pay what the coal industry paid you.”

Richard Ojeda is a loon who understands nothing beyond WV politics (which are decidedly much weirder than the rest of the country).

I'm not endorsing him or anything, but that loon makes more sense than most of the sold-out losers listed as likely 2020 Democratic candidates. I'd rather have him than Biden, Booker or Harris.

It is possible to address all of the above:

Racial discrimination, health care, and the economy.

Unfortunately, no, racial discrimination, health care, and the economy can't all be addressed by the federal government or the government of the states. Only one of those is easier to address, with more visible immediate results: a lot more can be done through political will about racial discrimination than about the other two. It is also the only one of the three issues that falls fully within governmental purview.

A lot can't be done about the economy simply because the primary deciders for most of the world's economy aren't American. The biggest player in the world's economy is China - a 100%-undemocratic state free to focus their attention where they want, who have made considerable inroads, and are in overwhelming controls of raw material production for both IT and renewable energy tech. China has already won the 21st century, are already calling a lot of the shots, and are going to keep calling more and more. And military force to make them comply to US demands isn't an option. China is no Iraq.

What of shoring up the damage at home, then? Well, then there's those major actors of economy who are American. They have organized and lobbied themselves into a position of controlling the politics - and the same happened with healthcare in that respect. You aren't getting rid of that peacefully in one presidential term, or even in five, for that matter. The fastest route is Revolution, purging the entire current ruling class and writing a socialist-inspired constitution in the process. I doubt this is going to happen, or that the notion would even find much support in the first place.

And even then, there's also the problem big businesses in the USA wields more financial clout than all the states and the federal state combined, a problem compounded by them not incurring the costs from state and federal state mission. Health care also wields humongous of money, on a scale quite sufficient to challenge the federal state. Which they don't even have to, because if they decide government takes too much from them, they have a wide array of options to move their profits outside the USA. Oh, and they have already gotten themselves tax rebates which aggregate to twelve figures, before Trump ever intervened, mostly on the threat of "I'll just go somewhere else where they'll give me what I want."

For both of those problems, again, the fastest solution comes through Revolution, enabling complete socialization of all of USA's health care and biggest businesses, because that's not happening democratically either. It's never going to get majority support.

And of course, there's the problem about revolutions that they are violent, bloody, economically ruinous, and end up having to decide how many more people lose than already did and ho once the dust settles.

Long story short: racial discrimination, politics could address in the USA. That one is only a question of political will using the existing structures. Economy and health care? Not much can be done by governmental power without violence - and even then, ultimately, a large part of economic issues aren't falling under the purview of the USA's government ever again.

    Definitely.

It’s just interesting that millennials put it first, and how that might impact 2020 campaigning.
