The Advisory Council returns!

St Patricks day is universal. I only vaguely know those other Saints, so why should an entire board change be made to suit a minority? It's like saying we should have an Australia Day theme when it's Australia Day over here. The themes that are chosen are generally only the most recognised occasions. St Patricks day is recognised -- the others aren't.

 

For universal read a marketing exercise to Guiness drinking countries!!.

Ask some of our East European, Asian or South American users who St Patrick was, what he acheived, both in reality and legend and they will look at you blankly or mutter something about leprechauns. From the point of view of the UK, of which he represents a portion of the population he is one of four saints no more or less important than the other three. It just seems wrong to me to honour one of the British saints and not the other three.

As for an Australia day makeover? Well you have my support on that if you want to petition for one. A significant proportion of both mods and users on this site are Australian so I see no reason why those responsible for the makeovers shouldn't recognise the sterling contribution made by those from Australia and honour them.

 

Well, thinking about the only holidays we really change the layout for are, Valentines, St. Patty's, the 4th of July and Christmas. I don't think we do a Thanksgiving one.

If you look at it, the 4th of July is the strictly American one.

 

how about a Labour day theme, or Queen's Birthday, which is a holiday in canada, nz, australia, and britian?

or are we all a bunch of reactionary republican capitalists?

The themes are changed on those days because there's an obvious *theme* (thus, the name "theme").

Valentine's Day = Pink Hearts, Pink boards, pictures of people kissing, whatever. Pink, pink, and more pink.

St. Patrick's Day = Green everything. Clovers. Green, green, and more green.

Halloween = Black and Orange everything. Pictures of Sith. Evil. Evil, evil, evil, black, black, black, orange, orange orange. Theme.

Christmas = Red and Green everything.

We do themes for holidays that have strong *themes* and schemes. Doing an Arbor Day wouldn't work the same way. Doing a May Day wouldn't work the same way. There's no mass 'theme' in terms of color schemata and representative images.

This isn't something we do to highlight one holiday over the other, we do it for fun because these days have obvious color influences.

There needn't be conspiracy or religious oppression in everything.

I'm supposed to be doing an AC update every thursday, huh? Oh darn, well with the rate at which it took me to get to the last, I should have started working on this yesterday.

 

Hey, as long as it's weekly-ish, I'm happy. Though I think probably some people here are far more interested in what you guys are doing than I am. Seriously, it doesn't really matter to me when reports come out. I think it's cool that the admin is trying to communicate better, so whatever works for that is okay with me.
