I'm fine year wise for whatever as long as I understand. We can get players from any era as long as they abide at least by that year, right? So no players after or its okay?

 

You can still draft players from any year.

 

You can get players from any year from the 19th century through 2020 or 2021 (Inty will have to confirm the exact endpoints). The year being voted on is simply when this fictional league season will be set. What that means is that the player you select will have his stats in the chosen year (and I think a couple of previous years) compared to the league norms for that year, and then that comparison will be ported to the chosen year and its norms. So if we play in a year of high offense, a pitcher from the dead ball era won't perform as well as he did in the dead ball era, while a top hitter from the dead ball era could be even better when transported to a high-offense era. Conversely, power hitters from a high-offense era won't be as good in the dead ball era. That's just a few of many potential examples.

 

I vote modern b/c I do not look forward to getting narc'ed on for MLB changes that happened when I was a baby.
