And your national team isn't doing so well either!

They're taking their time announcing the host for the Final. MetLife stadium is in the mix, though I have a feeling it'll be in LA again.

More of the usual haggling time wasting going on.

Either pay up or walk away, if an extra 15mil is too much maybe try selling players like Henderson to raise the money
Wasting most of the budget on one player when United need at least 5 new signings isn't a sensible way to do a rebuild.

When Klopp rebuilt Liverpool he needed 5 or 6 players too.

He brought in one or two a season and if he couldn't get exactly who he wanted he waited and tried next season or he waited and scouted for an alternative.

    See what happened with Liverpool.
    City did similar.

Yes you can afford the extra 15m and you may end up paying it but it's how it's structured, all up fro t or over the nextbfew years etc... to support FFP rules.

Also de Yong is a magnificent player and is a significant upgrade on everyone you have right now. He's not pushing to move so Barca don't feel pressure from the player to sell. Barca need the money but less so after a recent vote that allows a cash injection plus they know United are desperate for someone of his quality.
This one will drag for a bit yet

This is clearly the key target for the season. Get de Yong and united know the money available for the next one or two they bring in.
Don't get de Yong and they then either leave midfield alone or pivot to their second option, that could be Rice and he's more expensive and it'd put other transfers in jeopardy.

Well, we ask for more communication by the club and suddenly the CEO of Manchester United visits a local pub to speak with protesting fans.

Fair play to him for doing it, some of his words were pretty damning of how things had been run under his predecessor (which might upset the Glazers who just brought him in)

Manchester Evening News: Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold meets fans in pub to prevent Glazers protest.
    https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...hester-united-richard-arnold-glazers-24264857

He said when he visits the training ground he can't see any evidence of what £1billion has been spent on over the last decade.
The manager & the DoF have the transfer budget they wanted and are working hard to get deals done.

The decade of laughing at Manchester United is set to continue.Desperatley trying to get a player who doesn’t want to go there.

    and FFP was DOA, burt.

I know it was DOA but they still have to give the impression they follow it (unless they're an oil club)

And yes, de Yong doesn't want to go there so it's rather funny watching them waste time. They'll inevitable pivot to Rice (who they also won't get as he's going to Chelsea next year and should have been bought last year) and will leave them scrabbling about at the end of the season again.

They'll end up bringing in Kante for 10m more than hisnow aged body is worth and will big it up that they have a world class midfielder.

I think things will improve under Ten Hag BUT he has to get through the first season and there's no guarantee he'll do that yet.

    Absolute lols

Van Gaal has alledgedly scuppered the Timber deal to United by telling him, if he moves he won't be picked for Netherlands.

Because he won't play much for United or because his form will be terrible there?

Surprised he hasn't said the same thing to De Jong, who is more important to the national team.

Timber vs the massively out of form Maguire or the injury prone Varane?

He'd get plenty of game time at United

I suspect he's said it as Timber only has 8 caps and the Dutch national side won't miss him yet whereas De Yong is an integral part of the team

It's because of Van De Beek

He was a guaranteed national team player before he came to United and then didn't get enough minutes despite being better than many of the other midfield options.
Now he's unlikely to go to the World Cup.

LVG saying that the same thing could happen to Timber seems silly, but just because he's better than Maguire doesn't mean he's guaranteed to start

And the general coaching staff, many of which are still around.

I expect Ten Hag to use VDB more since he knows him well, he & De Jong could be a good midfield two

    If only

    Maguire is a good defender.

He's no VVD and you paid about 20 to 30m too much for him but he was still better than what you had when you got him.

This season he's been poor and every error has been highlighted but then, this year United were awful and he is nit to blame solely for your struggles.

He's best in a back 3 and Ten Hag will either get the best out of him next season or he'll be moved on.

Have you ever thought about actually supporting your team rather than crapping on them every 5 mins?

    Have you met Richie?

paying 20-30 mill less for Maguire is being generous. But he is English, so I see your point/loyalty.

he looks good in a three because he needs that cover. Only England have a three because Southgate isn’t a very good manager.

England are **** as per under him.

Maguire can play OK if he has midfield protection, which he gets with England & had at Leicester.
He doesn't get that at United because McFred can't defend or hold onto the ball well which leaves Maguire exposed due to his lack of pace.

Though his lack of awareness is still a problem, he should be able to anticipate balls into the box instead of just watch them as they go past him & Shaw expecting someone else will intercept.

Maguire could be another Vidic in the right system, but I'm not sure he can be effective under ETH's style of play

nkunku extends his contract with leipzig through 2026, wow. was sure he'd capitalize on this past season for a big contract at a big club. think he won bundesliga potm four or five times.

includes a 60m release clause, which means if he has an equally strong next season, he's long gone.

city will replace fernandinho with kalvin phillips, 42 million from leeds. should have a better chance at staying healthy playing in a rotation with rodri. good signing.

United would have paid 60mil+ for him probably so City got a good deal.

CR7 apparently offered to Bayern Munich, worrying signs with zero new players in and the Glazers taking another £11mil in dividends for themselves

it sounds like he wanted to play for pep specifically. he's been with leeds since joining their academy in 2010, so i'm sure they respected his wishes in the process.

there are also some incentives that get leeds into the 50m range.

The money the Glazers take in dividend is chickenfeed compared to the income and profit United make

They've spent over a BILLION pounds since Fergie left. The small amount of cash they take out is not the reason your currently as crap as you are.

Yes they're terrible owners but they're still spending the money

They apparently can't spend another 15mil to get De Jong, but can somehow magic up nearly the same amount to pay themselves.

It's that kind of attitude and contempt for the fans that is the reason United are in the state they're in, City & Liverpool have been spending big to improve their squads even further and United are sitting on their hands haggling to save some pennies when they need a whole new team and it's nearly the start of pre-season.
Ten Hag wanted new recruits in before then, preferably 4 or 5 considering around 6 players left (for no money) and most of the remaining lot are rubbish and lazy

At this rate we'll be starting the season with McFred in midfield again, which means the same old **** we saw last season

You just don't get how business works do you?

All clubs gaggle over price, some just move faster than others.

Nunez to Liverpool will have had them haggle over all manner of add ons. The thing is, it looks like Liverpool powered through and dud it in a day or so.

United make an offer, get knocked back then wait 2 weeks before they go back.

United know what they want to pay, what they refuse to pay and where the transfer will probably end. You don't power in with a full and final offer without the dance.
Liverpool dance is rapid. Uniteds put people to sleep.

Also, its nit the glazers making the offers. It was Woodward and now its your new guy. All the Glazers do is "sign the cheque" or veto the deal as is the perogative of the person who holds the purse strings.

They won't walk away though, they'll just end up paying the price originally asked for in the first place only it'll be 2 months later.

Since they're going to end up paying it anyway, just pay it from the start and move on to the next transfer.
Signing a second player after the season has started because they took 10 weeks to get 1 player isn't helping Ten Hag get the team working the way he wants.
Can't afford to start poorly given the fixture list
