ST The big space battle: Will it be like Rogue One? Or Force Awakens?

We are about due for a big classic space battle.
They shouldn't be in every movie. Skirmishes and small encounters, then once in a while, a Great Clash of Navies.

I quite liked the TIEs and X-Wings in TFA. JJ was playing with them more in the atmosphere, interacting with the ground more. It was something cool and new that puts the machines into "reality", rather than being little plastic models. And he's playing with that again with Rey's Jump in the teaser.

But it's not a Space Battle, and I really want one this time.

 

The latest teaser shot of the 10 million ships all stuck together made me cringe.

It really does look like JJ is going for the "flood the screen with as much pew pew crap as possible, it'll be great" approach. How sad. I really hope it works in the final film but I'm not hopeful at all.

I was thinking more Return of the Jedi x a billion.

Ships of all sizes zapping about wildly.

 

Both the Resistance and First Order fleets are now insanely big... Setting the stage for an epic space battle in the mold of Return of the Jedi combined with Revenge of The Sith and Rogue One!

With many casualties expected, including potentially the Millennium Falcon and her crew?

The worst thing is when you have masses of ships or ground vehicles just obliterating eachother for extended sequences, overwhelming the senses. I get very bored. It's why the Transformer movies send me to sleep. The AOTC Geonosis ground battle could have gone that way but Lucas wisely kept it brief.

The Rogue One battle was absolutely brilliant. Everything timed to perfection, every ship's mission clear. Another one of those and it'll be stellar.

 

I really want to see an original ep 3 arc fighter a Jedi Starfighter, a mandalorian fighter and a naboo fighter in there too

 

Like Return of the King but in space and with ships.

 

AOTC battle could have been better. If there was a movie that needed a space battle (albeit, not a big one) was that movie. Just to show how they penetrated the airspace and landed there fleet to engage the federation battle droids. It is in the novel, should have been in the movie along with the cut droid control footage. Instead you got all this cut stuff that didn't make sense. The Transformer movie was different, as there was no basis or understanding as to why such a scene was warranted, but in AOTC it was.

 

Why does it have to be RO or TFA? Clearly it looks like ROTJ, and knowing JJ, he's mimicking this 3rd film with ROTJ.

 

I think it looks like this could turn out a sort of mixture of all previous space battles. Huge, desperate, multifaceted.
But it also appears to have a personality of its own with that crazy space horse business. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole thing!

Agreed! I'm sure there'll be lots of starships from all corners of Star Wars canon. JJ seems intent on bringing it all together with this film.

 

I thought the naboo fighters were a beautiful design and so iconic

 

I'm hoping the ground battle for Episode IX is on par with Rogue One. I wanna see everyone go at it, heck make the guns jam and run out of energy and have them go Hand to hand like Grievous and Obi-Wan in episode III, That was like my favorite of them. two generals just going at it.
