    Looks absolutely gorgeous Liannb! What a fantastic job! :D

    How did you make your gauntlets? They look great! My first ones turned out terribly, so I'm going to remake them along with the corset later this year.

    Now I'm planning on making this one, with lots of help from a couple of teachers of course... ;)

    I've been looking, planning and trying to figure out things about this gown now since... October. Thanks to Lisa, one of my teachers, I've figured out that the feather cape consists of about 1000 (!) feathers, and today they arrived. (We ordered feathers a couple of weeks ago) Maybe a bit "fussy", but oh what the hell. I have to know my limits. (I'm very fastidious and big on details, just so you know...)

    As some here may (must) know, the Star Wars Exhibition is going to Sweden next summer, and to my town! :D So of COURSE I have to have a decent Star Wars costume by then! (Okay, I have both a Darth Vader and an Anakin Skywalker costume, but they are both bought from eBay, and besides, I look alot more like Padmé than like Anakin ;))

    We have also ordered lots (thousands!) and lots of beads, but strangely, not everything were in the package. So we have to order again. And I have not found anything that even remotely looks like the small "sticks" in the neckpiece, so we are going to search for necklaces we can destroy *evil laugh* and use pearls from them. Also, I still miss a decent fabric for the skirt (I don't like the flowery lace so much... so I'm looking for something more "spiderweb-like", since I think it's pretty impossible to find something exactly like the original gown)

    What we're doing now, is looking for pearls and sewing the corset up in cotton. I want to be finished by May, and I think I will.

    Picked up the headband for this outfit at Express yesterday - yes, really! Thin, silver, double-band. (Unfortunately, they don't have it up on their website.) It will take a little pinching to get the bands closer together, but WOW! I was shocked! HAD to buy it - I try not to ever pass up finds like that. :D

    Finished! These pictures were taken yesterday, and we (me and my teacher/slave) actually managed to buy two metal headbands that together looks exactly like the real ones, and just now, two days before the opening of the exhibition...[face_dancing]

    Even though the feather cape is a little... not really as beautiful as the original one (that would be hard), the train looks a little different, I didn't manage to get a lace with a "geometric" pattern for the skirt, and I had to improvise a bit with some of the beads, I love it. Somewhat, at least.:p

    Just be nice with us, with tought that I (and my "helper") are very unprofessional, this is the first time ever any of us did something like this, and, you know... everything looks worse on pictures. O:)

    http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/4838/corsetlisaiijw7.jpg

    Also, I look a bit grumpy there, but I don't know why. [face_thinking] And because those beads are so #¤%@ heavy, they "drag" the collar around my neck a little, so my "slave" attached some velcro on the back of the brooch. Other than that, the neckpiece simply holds together by several hooks.

    Now, it's just 30 more hours, [face_sick] some make up, shoes (of course), and then - Star Wars: the Exhibition, VIP-opening, here I come! [face_love]
    (And I promise, I will be getting better pictures ;))

    Oh and... Anthony "C-3PO" Daniels was of course there. Totally wonderful speech, I've got to say!

    I am currently looking for the lace fabric for the overskirt to this costume. DOes anyone know of a good source for this black triangular patterned lace? I find tons of floral laces, but this one is a tough one to find.

    I must say that Ixectrona's dress is absolutely lovely, since I had a chance to see while running around as a rebel at the exhibit.

    I am really having a hard time finding the right material for the skirt. Any suggestions? I really am looking for the geometric pattern and all I keep finding is floral laces.

    If you have your heart set on that geometric triangular repeat pattern, then you will have to make it yourself.

    Armed with the high-resolution photos hosted at padawansguide.com, you can see that the triangular rows do repeat in three or four large rows of eight to ten.

    It looks like Black Silk/Rayon Velvet in which the design has been burned out with fiber-etch (aka devore technique). The red handmaiden costumes, among others, have devore designs.

    Since making this dress for myself, I've been on a constant lookout for the right lace. After staring at the high res images for hours and studying the skirt at the FIDM exhibit, I'm convinced it's a chenille lace. I only came to this conclusion after spying the mesh-like lines over the under layer. You could try searching for Chenille Lace. I've found a few, that while not quite what I was looking for, aren't floral laces.

    Thanks Ladies. It looks like I am going to need to dust off my art skills on this one. I am going to try the Dupone method. I have had the chems for a while. Just waiting for the right project to work on it with.

    I've started re-researching this for my version 2.0 :) I'm going to completely remake the corset, skirt, and necklace.

    Upon studying the necklace for hours I think I've come up with some pretty decent notes. Be sure to enlarge it to original size to read the notes.
    [image=http://photos.imageevent.com/benaequee/costumes/completed/blackcorsetdress/BC%20promo%20details.JPG]

    I also found some excellent fabric here in the garment district of NYC. It's a burnout velvet, but it's better than everything else I've found over the past 4 years!
    [image=http://photos.imageevent.com/benaequee/costumes/completed/blackcorsetdress/large/Black%20Corset%20Fabric.JPG]
    It's black, not purple, it just photographed funny

    [image=http://photos.imageevent.com/benaequee/costumes/completed/blackcorsetdress/large/Black%20Corset%20Swatch.JPG]
    The scanned swatch. It has some lurex threads woven into it as well, but like I said, better than the laces I've been finding (all have been floral so far).

    I hope to have this done before 2008 is over :)

    Gorgeous fabric and great notes. I hate being in Florida with no garmet districts like NY and LA have. I'd love it if they would make more of those places available by internet for us in the less sophisticated areas of the country.
    What are some the names of the places you visit there in the garmet district?
