Rey is not the last Jedi, it's the little boy with the broom looking up into the sky at the end of the movie. The last scene of the last Jedi seems totally out of sequence and that's because weve jumped ahead a few years. Rey has now given birth to her and Luke's son and like Anakin he is a slave in some aliens workshop. You may think it's a stretch that old Luke and Rey had a child but come on, of course the last Jedi is going to be a Skywalker. It's always been about the Skywalkers and Emperor Palpatine, who of course, isn't dead. When Luke fell off the bridge after Vader cut off his hand he easily survived the fall, do we really think the emperor wasn't able to do the same or use the force to save himself? Episode 9 is going to bring us back to our roots. Skywalker vs. Palpatine. Snoke is dead, it wouldn't make any sense to introduce a new villain in the last chapter of the story and Kylo Ren isn't anything close to the Vader or Emperor that a good star wars film needs. No, they need to bring back someone we already know and obviously it can't be Vader. So again, of course the last Jedi is a Skywalker, Luke and Reys son, and he's going to fulfill the prophecy of bringing balance to the force when he kills the emperor doing away with the Sith and Jedi because he is the last Jedi and he will die at the end of the movie, having not trained anyone to replace him.

Going to play devil's advocate.....following your theory, post-ROTJ, where has Palpatine been? And why would he allow Snoke to take the reins of the FO?
