*takes thwacking stick from Tim and thwacks Mace*

You really think Anakin's not going to find out that Padmé's visiting? Sheesh...

*can't decide whether to thwack Mace for interfering or for being generally clueless*

Strong praise coming from the boards' toughest beta. *looks around* Who? Me? [face_blush] Thanks!

I love the update, it looks great!

And I agree with everyone else, Mace is a jerk. *takes the stick from Lothi and thwacks Mace a few more times for good measure*

See, didn't even have to threaten for a reply.

*looks around for the ox goad*

    Not like some people...

Tim, Obi's experience was a mild one, believe me... when you say trapped between an irresistable force and an immovable object, you're talking about sitting between two Army bureaucrats in the Finance office. :p

Calen, nice to see you here! Yes, you have pestered me, and it's paid off - I am writing the sequel...finally

Lothi, of course Mace is clueless - he's from the Council of 12 That Desperately Need to Get Laid... "A Jedi craves not these things." Yeah, right...
And where the heck did that ox goad come from?

Mely: Not this time, anyway. :p I'd pull out that lanvarok thingy that Ish left for me, but I'm afraid I might cut my own leg off.

Jade: Is it possible to both dread and look forward to getting notes back from you? ;) And is the "ox goad" another one of those things that I dare not ask about?

Is it possible to both dread and look forward to getting notes back from you?

    I don't know... I've never gotten beta notes from myself. ;) :p

And yeah... the ox goad is all Mely's... she threatens people with it if they don't post...

    *sees Mely coming* *runs*

Mely, if that ox goad is yours, you can put it to work chasing people in here to reply... :p

As soon as I can manage, Lothi. Tomorrow, I think - I'm still wading through Jade's red ink. ;)

Having just read your earlier responses, I am currently ROFLMAO, and trying to find the breath and wherewithal to formulate a reply.

Lothi, of course Mace is clueless - he's from the Council of 12 That Desperately Need to Get Laid... "A Jedi craves not these things." Yeah, right

JJ - I have never seen it put quite so eloquently - or accurately.

    Good job.

Cyn, credit Anakin_girl for that line, though I couldn't agree more. If you want to read something really hilarious, check her "Anakin Skywalker Diaries." The pranks that Anakin pulls on the Council (and everyone else) are a riot.

    Okay, Kirk, here's your post...

    -----------------------

    Chapter 3

With a gentle thump, the large shuttle settled onto the East VIP Landing Platform of the Republic Senate. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and Naboo Senator Sio Bibble, accompanied by two Senate Guards, stood near the entranceway to the landing platform, waiting patiently as the shuttle?s ramp lowered. At the top of the ramp, a dark-skinned human put his head out the door. After looking around, he nodded at someone in the shuttle, then descended to the platform.

Queen Amidala appeared at the top of the ramp. She wore an ornate red gown accented with gold thread. Her hair was woven through a gold headpiece that encircled her head like the rays of the sun. As always for public appearances, she was wearing formal white court makeup with the red Scar of Remembrance painted on her lower lip. She had an air of authority and dignity that were only enhanced by the ornate headpiece and the gown?s wide shoulders.

A tall, dark-haired man in an immaculate white uniform exited the ship after her. He carried himself with the same sort of authority as Queen Amidala. The Queen took his arm as she descended the ramp.

When the pair reached the bottom of the ramp, Palpatine and Bibble walked up to them. Both men bowed, and the Chancellor kissed the Queen?s hand. "Welcome back to Coruscant, Your Majesty. It's a pleasure to see you again."

"Thank you, Chancellor. It is good to see you again as well. And you too, Senator Bibble." Amidala turned to look at her escort. "May I present Prince Bail Organa, recently ascended First Chairman and Viceroy of the Sovereign System of Alderaan?"

"How do you do, gentlemen?? Prince Organa extended his hand. ?We've met before, Chancellor, but only briefly."

"Ah, yes," remembered Palpatine, shaking the man?s hand. "It was at the Caamas Conference, was it not?"

?Yes, it was,? Organa replied. ?We hold the same views on a number security-related issues.?

"If I remember correctly, Your Highness," Senator Bibble said to Organa, "you were pushing very hard for a unified, expanded Republic military." His expression and tone said that he did not agree with Organa?s position.

"The need for it is greater than ever, Senator." Organa nodded toward Queen Amidala. "I think you will agree once you have heard what your Queen has to say."

Palpatine gestured toward the door, cutting off further argument. "Shall we proceed? The Defense Committee awaits your presentation, Your Majesty." The Queen nodded and moved toward the building, her entourage trailing behind.

    **************

Anakin wandered the halls of the Senate, looking for something to occupy his time. Obi-Wan had left him a cryptic message this morning, saying only that he would be in a Senate Committee meeting all morning and that Anakin should meditate on yesterday?s lessons. Anakin puzzled over it. It was not unheard of for Obi-Wan to go to Senate meetings ? his opinion was respected despite his relative youth ? but he usually told his Padawan the details of what was being discussed, and explained the Jedi?s role in it. Sometimes Obi-Wan took Anakin with him, saying, ?First-hand impressions are always the most informative.?

Anakin had spent an hour pacing in the meditation chamber, then went looking for a sparring partner for lightsaber training. He found no takers, but that didn?t surprise him - he had beaten almost all of the Padawans his age at one time or another.

With little to occupy him, Anakin had left the Temple, catching an airbus to the Senate. He had planned to go to the Research Library to investigate the Jedi?s past handling of the slave trade, but had ended up roaming the halls instead, reflecting on his life.

Anakin didn?t regret his choice to leave

Mind Tricks to see the girl? Hmm, I bet that talent could come in handy in all sorts of situations... [face_mischief]

Nice post, Jae - I liked his reflections on Temple life, and the way he couldn't quite recall the way Shmi looks. Very sad...

Ohhhh this is good! I love the way you write Obi-Wan and Anakin's relationship. Anakin is very well portrayed, with his moodiness (he even thinks Obi-Wan is holding him back, wahoo! ;))

I also like the way you're setting up the clone wars. :)

Soooo when do we get more?

Lothi, I may drop to my knees every day and thank the Lord that you don't have that talent... ;)

Hi, Luney! To what do I owe the honor of your presence? I'm glad you're enjoying it. :) Hmm....guess I need to de-lurk from "Shadows" now, huh? ;)

Great post, Jae. (And thanks for promoting my fic for me. :) )

Poor Anakin--being deceived about Padme's presence on the planet and the subject of the senatorial meeting, and then having to see the clones from his vision projected right in front of him. :(

    Looking forward to more. :)

Great post, Jae! The revisions look wonderful! :)

I just wanted to give poor Anakin a big hug when he was thinking about his mom... *sniffle*

And I just love the irony behind the fact that kids training to be Jedi can't empathize with Anakin's situation...

Hmmm... the thought of Lothi with that talent... [face_mischief]

Wait a second! I think he already has it! :p ;)
