I thought this episode was ok. A lot of it though was just too much laser fire and blasting rocks. It sort of wears thin. Would like to see more emotion and appeal.

This series is in an interesting place. I think it is trying to figure out WHO it is supposed to be appealing to.

You're absolutely right on that note. Non-LIPs like myself will probably have no clue. But that's basically a good thing for me since it can't bother me that way! :)

I'm a big fan of the droid humor. It helps to keep things light. And gives me plenty of belly laughs! The only thing about that is that it makes the Jedi come off as poorly written. I mean, if they're supposed to have a sense of humor equivalent to 1,000 battle droids...[face_chicken]

The whole canon debate is essentially kaput. Finito'd, even! Why, you ask? Because GL is finished with his saga. That means there are no more movies on the horizon coming directly from him. Nothing's going to come out for the foreseeable future that will contradict and trump whatever's going on in the TV show. I can accept that the current and upcoming shows are slightly less canonical than the films, but they do rank right below them and above everything else. Put another way, this is as close to the highest level of canon we are going to be getting from here on out.

But this is all coming from a guy who still enjoys the Marvel Comics series!

    You mean like any good television show that's in its first season? 8-}

    (1) Guys, there's a thread for the canon debate, so please take any long or ongoing debates there. I will say that Canon below the level of the films (G-level canon) really depends on the involvement of Lucas. Novels like Labyrinth of Evil and the ROTS novelization are closer to "canon" than others because Lucas nixed certain things and was involved in the process along the way.

Ditto The Clone Wars - obviously he really liked what Filoni and company are doing, and Lucas has definitely guided the show visually and thematically.

    (2) With respect to the Force, the creators have told us The Force Unleashed is a "hyper" version of the Force. We've seen all of the most powerful Force users in the Saga: Yoda, Palpatine, Anakin/Vader, Luke, Dooku - and none of them can do anything close to hauling a Star Destroyer out of the atmosphere.

What was Yoda doing when he cut the trooper's blaster rifles in half?

Also, I forgot how cool "that's a lot of smoke for a surrender" was.[face_peace]

Just an observation: So the Clone Wars starts with Episode 101...

Hmmm...Could we see Episodes 1-100 at some point?

That is the standard code for most TV shows. The it goes by season then by episode number. Season 1 episode 1=101. When season 2 rolls around it will be episode 201. With one hundred or so episodes they should get to 4 or 5 seasons.

Making a crutch for the injured trooper. You can see him walking with it in the following scenes.

Was at a wedding this weekend so I've only just managed to see it. Thought it was an excellent start. Loved the OT music and the battle action. Yoda wasn't too powerful IMO, afterall he is THE most powerful jedi and should be able to take out a load of battle droids with ease.
Everything seemed to flow really well, I'm about to watch episode 2, hope its as good.

Well Lucas' first movie in this saga eventually became Episode IV.

The fact that we already approximately 2 years in the Clone Wars at Episdoe 101 makes me think it possible to see some prequel Clone War episodes.

It confused me at first, too and a friend told me the same. I was starting to think he was tinkering with it, improving it, because he started doing it right after one of the clones complained about the lack of ammo. First I thought he'd transfer power from the saber to the gun, then he cut away at it and I thought he might be getting rid of energy-consuming systems or whathaveyou.
But... Yoda - Weapon Specialist? That seemed awfully wrong.
Then the clone used it as a crutch and it all made sense suddenly :p

Yeah, I figured it out the 2nd time I watched. [face_blush]

At first I was like, "sawed-off shotgun style", but I was more than happy with the mini-gun.

Ventress' facial expressions seemed more subtle and flexible compared to the movie.

I like Ventress' look in this series, alot moreso than the animated series and her voice was spot on for me

Did anyone else think it was badass the way she almost seemed to be having fun when she was blocking the shots of the Toydarian guards?

Her little smirk as she pushed them down made it seem like she was enjoying it way too much.

I love how Yoda was saying how they have to hurry up as he limps along after their life pod crashed. Yoda was just great to see heading up the action like in AOTC. Loved it. Finally, fun, action-packed Star Wars material every week. Just think, after the first season, we will have roughly 450-500 minutes of Star Wars new material. WhoooooooHooooo.

Well, watched it yesterday, and thought it was an excellent start

    -Pros
    most of the episode

    clone's personalities were awesome

opening sequence(if someone wouldn't have told me it was animated, and I didn't know it beforehand, I would've thought it was movie-grade sfx

Seeing Toydarians that don't adhere to the crusty stereotype

    battle sequences

    yoda's wisdom

    -Cons
battle droid humor. I know that this is in there for the kids, but I honestly didn't mind it in the movie much, but it kind of irks me more here.

That's what I'm hoping for. I have to say that my main dissapointment for this series is that it doesnt start straight after the battle of Geonosis. There is so much material that has been missed out. I'd love to see how Anakin becomes a night and how Grievous becomes part of the seperatist movement. I have a feeling they started where they did because it allowed the series to start with high quality villains like Grievous and Ventress. Hopefully they will go back and cover other stuff.

Why didn't the Super Battle Droid just stop firing when Yoda lifted it up with the Force, or was Yoda controlling it's blasters also?

I just finished watching the series premeir on CTV. That was pure own. Yoda owning an entire column of droid armour was extremely fun. I've seen one episode and I'm already looking forward to the DVDs.

Loved it. I really enjoyed seeing Yoda in action and like that this series gives us the chance to meet individual clones and get nods to things like the toys. Actually seeing THIRE was very cool.

That said... the relationships between the Jedi and the Clones seems so powerful, i.e. the Jedi seem willing to do anything for the clones and the clones seem to acknowledge and realize it. That makes Order 66 seem to be even more troubling to me. You'd think these clones would all look back on multiple times where Jedi saved their lives and be unwilling to just coldly execute them. I'd kind of like to see some more examples of them blindly following orders to establish that response to Order 66, i.e. maybe down the road the Chancellor orders a group of clones to destroy a planet and the Jedi strongly question the clones and they respond that "Any order from the Chancellor will be obeyed. ANY order".

Well, Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader is based on that very premise, a battalion of who don't turn on their Jedi officers and allow them to escape. Also Yoda says that although the clones were grown from the same genetic template, they all resonate differently in the Force, so yes, I think that its at plausible to anticipate that we will see clones protecting, or at least not turning on their Jedi commanders.

Also, I think it depends on what kind of clones we are being shown. Are we seeing ARC Troopers, Clone Commandos, Pilots etc? Remember, most of the Republic Army is composed of clones whose genetic template has been modified to make them more docile and willing to follow orders, while ARCs and Clone Commandos have undergone acclerated growth and little else, which makes them much more free-thinking.

I realize that I am speculating, but I could see a situation where the rank and file of the Clone Army obeys Order 66 without question, but some ARC Troopers or Clone Pilots go renegade and allow their Jedi commanders to escape.

    This episode was all win:D

First time I've liked Yoda since Dark Rendevous. Capturing his light heartedness was a very welcome addition, as were his feelings for the Clone troops. I hate Prequel Yoda [face_frustrated], this one, much better he was:p.

The Toydarians are a nice addition as well. I've always liked them, even have a fanfic or two written containing a twin blaster weilding, bounty hunting, Chow Yun Fat version of Watto's race:p

I guess Canada is waiting for next week for Episode 102 :( Oh, well, it could be worse.
