Full Series The Clone Wars- Episode 106: Downfall of a Droid Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

Dang. I hope R2 makes it out all right =/

 

I'm super pumped to see this episode after seeing the previews from almost two weeks ago. It looks like it's going to be another good episode!

 

This R3-S6 character really annoys me. I don't understand what happend in Lucasfilms that they refuse to bring an astromech character to the forefront if he's not an R2 clone! In Ep2 we had R4-P17, which instead of the proper R4 cone-head, had an R2 dome. It was later explained that R4 had suffered an accident and had his head replaced by an R2 cask. Alright... Then in Ep3 we have R4-G9, which inexplicably has an R2 dome again!

And now, we have a chance to see a cool glass-domed R3, but no! Apparently he has a scavanged R2-series dome!! I can't for the life of me understand why they keep doing this! I mean, wouldn't it benefit the characters and the universe if these droids stood apart from each other by their model and not just their color patterns?!

 

I'm not terribly aching to see this episode, but the series hasn't disappointed so far....

 

Anyone here played Homeworld and recognized the Turanic Raider carrier at the end of that trailer? =P

 

This one appears to be missing the bite of the previous episode, since we know R2 isn't gonna suffer any irreparable damage. However, the Seps could glean some info from him. And we should get to see another dynamic space battle, which is always fun. And Ahsoka's back!

I won't be able to watch this one live tho. Hope they're still rebroadcasting these on Sundays!

 

yeah, we all know R2 will just turn out fine.. and, besides, so far the Republic had won each and every battle in the first 5 episodes, i wonder when they'll come to a major defeat. I'm so eager to see the theme getting a little darker..

I guess Grevious shoots down Anakin,finaly i see him succesing at something.

 

Yeah, it doesn't sound like the typical SW adventure, but the preview looks good and like Garth Maul said, the series hasn't disappointed me yet.

And Grievous shooting down Anakin...well heck, right there is reason enough to watch it.

 

Hmmm...sounds like they changed the announcer's voice.

The comic pre-quel was pretty good this week. I agree that the R2 storyline seems to be abit weka. However, judging by the comic there is a deeper tory going on in this episode.

You saw Episode 2, right? The one with four Republic survivors from an entire task force, with a Sep loss of a handful of droids?

 

Hilariously, that's what I thought of too when I saw it. I was like "WTH? Is that the Khar-Salim?"

The preview comic is up, it looks like some Faleens will be in this episode.

 

I don't think we'll see any Faleen in this episode.

 

General Grievous has shown a surprising amount of brains in this ep so far, even if he was forced to retreat again, Anakin's gambit to defeat him was so awesome that it really doesn't matter.

 

Not the best episode of the series, but good nonetheless.

And is anyone else wondering if R3 was programmed by the Seperatists? Its either that, or his incompetence is so monumental its hard to believe. I mean, he pretty much does the opposite of what Anakin tells him again and again. That's not at least suspicious?

Interesting episode with R2-D2 being abducted by the Separatists and the search for him. And the assassin droids are really cool.

But what's with the goofy music in places in this episode? It doesn't even fit in Star Wars, totally wrong type of sound.

 

I didn't think about that, but now that you mention it...That makes so much sense.

 

Next episode is an airborne campaign.

I'm kinda wondering what this week's comic had to do with the episode, though.

And was I the only one who thought the small space battle at the beginning was really well done?

 

am i mistaken or was the bothan homeworld referenced at the beginning of the episode when they describe what planet anakin and company are supposed to be protecting? if so, that would be really cool.

 

I enjoyed it. Very glad that Artoo has gotten a story arc of his own and Anakin's determination to find him drives the story along nicely. His gambit against the Seperatists was pretty awesome and so were the battle droids. It looked like they went with a guitar score for this episode.
