I think it's going to be hard to get a good impression for any Rev. game without first playing it. Not only do you have to know how it looks but you have to get a feel for how it plays as well. It's going to be an interesting aspect that's going to have to be added to previews and reviews of nearly every Revolution game.

All signs point to Oct or November, I believe.

    >>Honstely, as I've said this before; I'd rather wait till E3 to say anything about Red Steel and its look on the Revolution. <<

I agree, but it's nice to get something concrete, if only a dab, on the Revolution after all the secrecy. Plus now we know about one other launch game for it.

Yes, its nice to at least get a look at something being made for the Revolution. I just think that its to early to judge and to call this the most awesome game ever or something. I just think that in-game footage from E3 would be better suited and help us understand the game more.

Screenshots, IMO; don't really give us anything except a look at how the graphics will be on the console. Which they do look nice and I'm quite surprised that the Revolution will be able to keep up with the PS3 and Xbox 360.

If there's one thing Nintendo can do it's make consoles which can actually have their power largely utilised from the off. There's always some damn good architecture in there.

It's nice to see some screens, but it's what I was expecting pretty much- which is no bad thing.

To me, one of the best parts of this news is, like Quest said, to get some concrete evidence, and also, if they just showed us one game, that means there are a bunch more that we will probably start seeing very soon. Most likely starting with E3.

    My hopes for the Revolution:

    1) Keep the name Revolution. It sounds cool. Dolphin would not have been a good choice for the GC, so it's understandable they did not go with the code name. Perhaps the console could be called the RNES: Revolutionary Nintendo Entertainment System.

    2) It needs to be packaged with the remote stick, the analog nunchuk add-on AND the standard controller shell. This goes back to the rule about 3rd parties only wanting to support the standard system package. If the shell is not included standard, few games taking advantage of it will ever come out - significantly reducing the number of games released for it. Also, new controllers should be sold as a unit with all 3 parts.

    3) Release it at launch with Super Mario 128!

    My hopes for the PS3:

    1) Keep it under $400 (preferably $300-350). If Sony wants to compete with the XBox 360, they won't be able to do so with a much higher price tag. I see this as the greatest threat to the success of the PS3. Sony will get killed at Christmas with the cost conscious if the 360 and Revolution are both under $300.

    2) See rule number 1.

    3) That controller does not look confortable for long hours of play. Start working on controller evolution #2 soon.

My hopes for the Xbox 360:

    1) Release some games I'd actually be interested in playing.

    2) Actually get some exclusive games worth playing (not just HALO) otherwise I don't see the draw...and when I say exclusive, I mean for the long term, not just a year or so.

Sweet. Here's game two for Rev.

Sadness, a 1930's era game completely in black-and-white. While we don't know wht type of game this is, it's definitely something new.

    That definately is different.
If Nintendo keeps revisualizing games in this way, Revolution should have no problems with the fans.
Ultimately though, I do hope it's more than a FPS. Aside from the games than combine FPS with, say, strategy games I haven't really noticed a huge difference from one FPS over another aside from Goldeneye being ridiculously fun on multiplayer ;)

I also have to say, Red Steel's (or whatever's) graphics really surprised me. I was gearing up for same ol' GCN graphics. If there is a huge difference between the systems, I doubt a layman like me will notice.

Without an HDTV (which will be the vast majority of gamers this generation), the systems will probably end up looking about the same (see most HDTV'less people's initial reactions to 360 titles), though you'll still get the occasional title that will take full advantage of a system's capabilities and edge forward, especially towards the end of this upcoming generation (take Resident Evil 4 as a current-gen example).

    I suppose that's true.
I remember playing any number of games on any number of systems and thinking 'that's the best they could do with what they had?'
Granted, not every game needs to utilize every feature, but some games seem like they didn't even try. There are some companies though, that like to make their systems bleed with perfomance.

People seem to forget that, at least during this generation, ps2 was the least powerfull of the three consoles spec-wise...

That's because specs mean squat in the end to the vast majority out there.
    Jim Jam Supraleet Drives
    3 x 10 megaton memoryhurtz
    Jibbitythree hundred colors
That's what the layman sees (I'd imagine since I consider myself a layman). While we can infer that a higher number generally = better, we have no idea what that means for the application of the system or its games.
What matters is the final product.

..hi, sorry to jump in here. I just recently started STRONGLY considering picking up an XBOX360, and so i was leafing thru the many pages of this thread.

Haven't even come closet to reading the whole thing, but i came acrosa discussion on wireless controllers.

Now, am i the only one who really does NOT want a wireless controller? I mean, correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the XBOX360 wireless controller require AA batteries to run? (I seem to recall reading that somewhere). Doesn't that bother anyone?

First thing i'll buy along with my XBOX360 (should i go for it) will be a wired-controller.

I don't need to have to worry about controllers running out of batteries!

Well, let's see. I bought my Gamecube almost a year ago, and I bought a wavebird along with it.

Almost a year later and the controller still hasn't had its batteries replaced yet.

I can only imagine the 360 controller is at leat that good on energy conservation.

Nintendo took the rumble out of the Wavebird though to conserve battery power. That may allow it to last longer than the 360 controller. This is purely speculation on my part though as I don't have a 360. But yeah, wavebirds last a real long time. I've only had to replace the batteries in mine twice.

See, that'd be 2 times too many, for me. I don't deny that wireless technology is fun and impressively reiable in this day and age, but it just strikes me as being wasted on something as trivial as a controller, ya know?

Well, if it wasn't for the lack of rumble, I'd have used a Wavebird all the time. It is very useful for multiplayer games when you have a lot of peple in a small area and need to sit some people further back from others without cords yanking the system off a shelf or whathaveyou.

Also avoids the constant "insta-tangle" habit having mutliple wired controllers tends to create.

And you can laugh in the face (er, gasmask) of Psycho Mantis when he says he'll move your controller across the floor. [face_mischief]

    Nunchaku Controller Feature Revealed

    April 25, 2006

    by: Phillip Levin

CONFIRMED: Sources close to Nintendo confirm for AMN that the rumors are true. Details inside.
Last week, a rumor hit the net claiming that the Nintendo Revolution?s nunchaku controller features a built-in acellerometer allowing it to sense it being tilted left or right, or being moved up, down, left, right and in a number of other directions as well.

Today, AMN has confirmed through a developer incredibly close to Nintendo that this rumor is in fact true. The nunchaku peripheral does feature this secondary function. However, we were also told that the nunchaku controller does not feature the same pointing and motion sensing abilities that allow the Revolution free-hand controller to be used like a ?pointer? or ?wand.?

One example we?ve come up to describe how this function will be useful in future software involves a first-person shooter, in which you use the free-hand controller to look around and aim, while you use the nunchaku controllers analog stick to move around and strafe. Most importantly, you?d be able to tilt the nunchaku controller to the left or right to reload your weapon.

More intriguing than all this, perhaps, our source told us that this ?feature? of the nunchaku controller has been in their development kits since they first received them over six months ago. This raises the question, of course, is this the second big secret function of the Revolution controller? It could be. However, it?s odd that developers have had access to the feature and information all along, without ever being told to keep the information under wraps.

Nintendo Revolution will be in full playable form during the Electronic Entertainment Expo., which kicks off May 9, 2006 with Nintendo?s annual press briefing. AMN will be on hand at the event with full coverage.

I keep wanting to get jazzed about these "next generation" systems, but all I keep hearing about is "graphics, graphics, graphics". Frankly, I don't care that much. Rarely in the last two years have I hated or loved a game for that reason alone.

I'm looking for info about games using all this new space and power to build broader, longer-lasting, more immersive game worlds. Aside from Oblivion, I've been disappointed. Anybody know of any other titles rumored to be delving into increasingly expansive gameplay as opposed to FPS's and racers with better lighting effects?
