    The Prison Section

Resus was pretty quickly at a steel door at the end of a long corridor. It opened as he came closer and revealed a room that split into three corridors.

Back at the cell they saw the other prisoners now getting up. Some shouted for help in a dozen different languages.

"Release us!" "Don't leave us behind! I have family!" "Help me! Please!"

It was probably that shouting that produced another noise. A siren. Alarm had been triggered. From the walls of the long corridor with the cells gas suddenly erupted from vents spreading quickly ... then the gas hissed above them and for the first time they saw ... this was only one of seven levels of cells. Above creatures of all kinds shouted as hundreds of prisoners realized they had a chance to escape.

But on the right end of the corridor the first prisoners began to choke and collapse. The air filled with a biting stain.

"RETURN TO YOUR CELLS IMMEDIATELY." The voice of Zero thundered through the corridor from speaker from above.

    Bridge, Aboard the Ship

There was only black. The holographic display of the starmap showed planets on one side, the ship at the center and on the left ... only black. A single planet was highlighted with glowing red. It was nearby. 376.3456.4500 were the coordinates. The elder woman screamed at Teros.

"In the prison and that is where you should go!" She pushed a button and another holograph appeared. It showed Resus running down a corridor. "No, no, Master an outbreak!" She yelled and hit a red button.

    The Corridor, Aboard the Ship

Cat heard Resus’ voice speak in a clear and calm manner: "I bet there is some sort of alarm, we should try to find our way to the hangar quickly. I think we are in the center of the ship, so let's move outwards and then along the hull until we get to the hangar."

Cat quickly took a look at the wall. There was NOTHING that she could see that they could use to help free the others. Kasper's voice came through clearly.

“Wait! What about them!?” He asked plaintively, his voice almost cracking as he spoke. He gestured towards the others, caged in their cells. Cat grabbed Kaspers hand. "There is no way to open their doors. We need to get help! Do you see any controls? Now come one!" Cat began to run then, holding on to Kasper as she did. She was not going to lose sight of Resus and Perm. She was aware that somewhere, an alarm was going off as well. Cat also saw some kind of gas emerging from vents that she had not seen before.

She pulled up her shirt over her nose, but she wasn't going to stop running, no matter what. A voice boomed from above.

    "RETURN TO YOUR CELLS IMMEDIATELY."

Nope, nope, nope!!! If anything, that voice spurred her on even faster, as they made up the distance between themselves, and the hanger.

Free from the Cell, but not from Prison

There were no controls to be seen. There would be no freedom for the others, at least none that they could provide. Kasper’s blue eyes remained on the other prisoners for one moment longer, before he allowed himself to be taken away by Cat.

Everything about this place was wrong. Abandoning the other prisoners was wrong, but what was the right thing to do?

    Live, Kasper, you must live.

He could take little comfort in those words as he ran down a corridor, where to? He was not sure.

Suddenly, he began to choke and he saw gas begin to fill the hall. Instinctively, he covered his face with his free hand and saw that Cat had done similarly.

    ’RETURN TO YOUR CELLS IMMEDIATELY!’

Kasper ran faster now. He was NOT going back to a cell.

    The prison

Resus reacted now. Only reacted. No thought no plan. He knew they had to act quickly. As Perm ... and finally the other two orphans ... made their way down the corridor, he jumped to the other side of the door and put his finger on the button to close it. As soon as they were through he would **** it and as it was probably air sealed as most of these doors it would probably protect them from the gas. It seemed to be a defense mechanism only applied to certain areas. They would probably have to deal with it in the hangar again.

"C'mon! Faster!" He yelled to the other two and looked around in the hangar, expecting the appearance of their metal nemesis any second now.

Teros did not think. Before the woman could push another button he walked over and deactivated the plasma cutter just to swing it like a bat at a game of Limmie at her head. She collapsed right away. Smiling he looked at Resus and the others. They had needed no rescue after all.

Quickly he turned to the coordinates and memorized them, before turning to leave the bridge of this forsaken ship and run back to the hangar!

They had a chance, a real chance to get out of this alive.

@RachelTyrell send this so I post it for her.

    Permond Rasz
    The Prison aboard the ship

Perm ran, it was all he could do. Run! Run, run, run as the gas filled the corridors.

They had minutes at best. The droid was on his way, he had no doubt about that. He was not letting them leave and they had no weapon or ability to even harm him.

"Go, go, go!" He yelled to the two remaining kids as they hurried after him and he made it to the door. Resus was a quick thinker, the door would seal the prison complex. But the boy would not close it without his friends.

For a second the thought of pushing him aside and closing came to him. But these kids had been brave. They deserved a chance to stay alive. "Gooooooo!" He yelled and send out a prayer to all 23 Gods of his people.

Resus waited for all of them to be through the door. Permond was first. Then Kasper and finally cat. Just as she made it to safety he hit the button and the door sealed, leaving hundreds of prisoners to their fate, but protecting the group from the gas.

But even through this door screams could be heard.

    Bridge, Aboard the Ship

Just as he was about to approach the door to the corridor it slided into the ground and revealed ... their Host. The Master was a hulking droid, turning it's one visor to the boy in front of him.

"You must have slipped away." It said and lay it's head aside. "I am going to harvest you first." The arms spread and the mechanical hands turned into fists.

"Then your irritating friends." Zero added and stepped forward reaching out to grab Teros neck and probably break it.

Cat heard the woosh of the door just behind her as she reached the area where the others were, now out of the prison section. Her head was quickly checking out the area, to see which way seemed plausible. She was thankful for Resus and Permond, but they still had a way to go. She ignored all other sounds, for now, concentrating only on escape. She quickly turned to look at
    Permond.

"Which way?" was all she asked, as she also kept a close eye on Kasper. She
wanted to be far away from this nightmare of horrors. Later, she would deal with the consequences. But right now, all she wanted was to be as far away in space as they could get from this nightmare.

Combined with Sirak, giving me a wonderful Christmas present ...

    Teros Kron
    Ship, Bridge

Teros saw the hulking droid for the first time. It was a combat model. Obviously. A machine created for fighting and killing. More advanced than any droid he had ever seen.

And it was between him and the exit.

"Try." He just answered to the thread of the machine as it reached out to him. The plasma cutter activated in his hand and his second hand grabbed the smaller one. He screamed. He was afraid, he was angry and he was dedicated to not die! He screamed! It felt natural. Slashing out with the large cutter at the arm he brought the smaller one up in the same move.

The droid was fast, it wiped the first blade aside easily. The second one hit him by surprise. These tools were made to cut metal. They did the job. The smaller plasma cutter went through his arm and send sparks flying as it severed it. Teros jumped back and the droid did the same. It looked at the arm severed at the elbow and then turned to Teros.

    "
You metal bastard. Not so easy when we fight back, hm?" Teros hissed and attacked, swinging both plasma cutters and the droid dodged, stepping back. It tried to stay out of his reach, but in it's back was a wall. Was this shock? Surprise? A droid that was surprised? Quickly the droid turned and dropped to all four ... well three by now ... and vanished down the corridor at incredible speed like a fleeing animal.

Teros looked after it, then turned and began to run. The hangar. He had to get to the hangar before the droid could change strategies.

    ... aboard the ship

Perm actually recognized the corridor. It was a little broader and louder than those on the outer hull. Yet, he felt he should probably not reveal his familiarity with the ships design. No. These kids were smart.

"Guess Hangars are center, that way. Along the outer hull." He said and took lead. Without a weapon he felt terribly naked, also he was truly less endangered than the days before.

    The ship corridors

Resus felt relief of not having left any of them behind. "Permond take lead, Cat you should take the rear." She was the fighter, Kasper had also shown promise in that regard. But Cat was older. He would stay in their center and do what he could do best.

    Not stand in the way.

There was a ... feeling. A strange feeling. Was it a feeling? Was it a perception through a sense he had never perceived anything through? And what was he feeling?

A void. An absence of something.

    "Let's hurry."

    Ship’s Corridors

For now he kept silent, but felt very glad to be out of the Prison Block and whatever nightmares were made reality there. The door closing behind them brought an added sense of relief, but he dared not become too hopeful. They all needed to escape the Prison Ship and warn the rest of the living-breathing galaxy. They had to find a way to escape and warn others about this floating horror.

Kasper followed along the rest, staying close to Cat, doing what he could to memorize the way they were going and where they had come from, expressly to NOT mistakenly end up there once again.

Perm seemed to know his way around somehow, but as long as he was leading them away from that droid, that’s all that mattered.

Resus was being tactical, assigning positions and the like. At any other time, the silver haired boy would have smiled in mild amusement, but such times seemed to be now a thing of the past.

    Survival was all that mattered.

Yet, it still somehow felt wrong to him. But he wasn’t going to let that stop him. Everyone seemed to be on the same page- for now.

Resus had urged them all to hurry, and as if on cue, they all picked-up their pace.

    The Ship

Corridors, followed by more corridors. They were all dark, in a terrible condition and bathed in either red or flickering light. Cables hang from the top sometimes. It looked like the internal of the ship had been harvested for parts.

But Perm found the way to the hangar surprisingly easy. It was closer to the prison block than expected.

Then once inside the hangar the good luck was almost a little too much as the black shape of the Ubese ship, the 'Nightwing' as Permond called it, was humming and the ship was obviously energized.

"By the maker, the odds I see any of you again were close to zero!" K-1 greeted the group. He showed no impression, but there was relief in his voice.

"Master Teros ordered me to get the ship running and I was able to overwrite the lockdown protocol." He said without being proud for what was probably quite a feat for a maintenance droid.

Teros entered the hangar just as the others arrived on the other side. They were there. All his friends and a strange Reptilian humanoid stood in front of the dark colored transport.

"I don't know how to open the hangar doors though." K-1 added. "Which means we might still all die a terrible painful death."

"Guess Hangars are center, that way. Along the outer hull." He said and took lead. Perm responded to Cat's question Resus then spoke up, "Permond take lead, Cat you should take the rear." Kasper filled in the middle, along with Resus. Cat simply nodded and fell to the rear of the line, keeping her eyes open.

The corridors seemed to go on forever. It was dark, with only red or flickering lights to guide them. Parts of the ship hung in tatters as if it had been cannibalized. Cat followed silently, making sure that no horror was following them. Soon, Cat saw what looked like a miracle to her. The hanger of the ship. Cat saw the Ubese ship, that Perm called Nightwing... and it was humming. Cat smiled. A familiar shape came into her view. The droid!

"By the maker, the odds I see any of you again were close to zero!" K-1 greeted the group. "Master Teros ordered me to get the ship running and I was able to overwrite the lockdown protocol." Teros! He was alive. Good news. But where was he now? The thought had barely crossed her mind when Teros entered the hangar just as the others arrived on the other side. Cat couldnt help but smile again. Fortune had turned. Hopefully it would stay with them for a bit longer.

"I don't know how to open the hangar doors though." K-1 added. "Which means we might still all die a terrible painful death."

Cat muttered, "Compared to what we've seen-can't be worse." She wanted to rush the others to get into the small ship. She was sure that droid wasnt simply going to let them go. The door, they could figure out later. Cat turned to look at Perm. "Wish we could explode some of these ships. Keep the droid from focusing on us while we get out of here. Or else he will simply suck us back in." But right now, just getting inside the ship was all she was really thinking about. That, and wishing that she had a weapon.

    Ship’s Hangar

Seeing the hangar and the Ubese ship brought a great sense of relief and familiarity, as well as some unintended Deja Vu. The last time he saw the ship was the time he was captured.

But all trepidation vanished as soon as he saw the familiar tech droid.

“K-1!!” The silver haired boy exclaimed in glad surprise. Kasper and the others rushed over to the droid and the ship. Kasper felt deeply indebted to the other three members of the small group. Perm, Resus, Cat. They were handling the situation much better than he was. Quite notably, it was because of their efforts that they’d gotten this far.

[Master Teros ordered me to get the ship running and I was able to overwrite the lockdown protocol." ]

“Teros!” Kasper echoed. “Where is he?”

There was no sign of Resus’ older brother.

[I don't know how to open the hangar doors though." K-1 added. "Which means we might still all die a terrible painful death.”]

Kasper offered an involuntary smirk at the droid’s fatalistic humor. Their current ordeal had granted him new perspective on things.

“We may need to blast the doors open.” He suggested after a thought, but nodded at the others, agreeing that boarding the ship and securing themselves was their first priority. Finding Teros was next.

    Resus and Teros Kron
    Hangar, Mysterious Ship

Resus smiled as the droid mentioned they would actually have a ship and it had been Teros ... and that moment he knew his brother was fine.

The door behind him sliding open and revealing Teros actually alive only confirmed what he had guessed. Turning he ran to his brother and embraced him. Probably this was the first time in their live he actually embraced him. But he just had to.

Teros felt the relief too and returned the embrace. For a moment he just was full of joy they were all alive. Then he realized this might not stay like this forever.

"Okay, whoever you are I hope you can fly that ship. K-1, do we have weapons? Kasper, Cat, probably take them. I will do the astrogation." He gave Resus a look to trust him, also he would usually be the last person to do astrogation.

"Resus, get save and help out whenever you can, okay?" He put his hand on his little brothers shoulder. "We might need quick thinking."

Resus felt something in his brother, an uneasiness. He knew something. Something he did not tell them. Not out of evil intent, but because he did not wanted to distract them.

What is it? Resus thought and Teros turned to him. "Not now." He replied and ran to the ship.

Had his older brother heard his thoughts?

Quickly he turned to the ship and ran up the ramp. Teros stopped by K-1.

"Excellent job." He smiled at the droid and vanished inside.

    ... aboard the Nightwing

Perm ignored the droid and hurried inside. The thing belonged to the kids obviously. He had enough of droids anyway. He heard the discussion behind him as he leaped into his pilot seat and began powering the systems.

"You wanna blow some ships? Flak battery is on the upper deck. Kids you find ammo in the large yellow box. Load, seal, aim, shoot. But you need two to operate it. One loads, one shoots. Easy enough." He himself powered up the plasma torpedoes. He had two left and linked them together. They were their best chance of escape now.

"Hangar doors are shielded. But you know what? Let's blow a hole into the damned hull." He hissed. "That keeps him busy."

He punched the closing mechanism when they were all on board. "Everyone not working, get a seat and prepare for one bumpy take off." He grinned. His ship was the most dangerous weapon he possessed. Ubese build their ships for war and this one was no exception. Powering the shields up to avoid another ion pulse he brought the Nightwing into hovering mode and armed the weapon systems.

"Fire at will." He then simply said. Then he pushed the buttons to release the torpedoes.

He didn’t have to be told twice to board the ship. This was their ticket to freedom and he was not going to miss it for the world. Inwardly, he was glad that they were all finally together again. Things were happening quickly, so he only had time to offer Teros a thin smile and a solid nod of welcome.

Marching orders were given, and Kasper immediately knew his role. He would load the ammo.

“You’re good at shooting.” He said to Cat, seeing how she had been armed just as the madness started. Kasper’s hope of finally working towards actual freedom shone brightly in his blue eyes. He couldn’t help himself, even if he wanted to. This prison ship was an absolute nightmare, and he desperately wanted out of it.

“C’mon. I’ll load the ammo. Yellow box, right?”

It didn’t take long to find what he was looking for. Loading the flak battery was basic enough. Not to mention, adrenaline was coursing through him once again, so he worked with alacrity. Causing a hull breach in the ship was a good idea for escape, all things considered.

“Let’s g….” Kasper caught himself. He almost said, ‘Let’s go home.’

    “Let’s get out of here.”

From somewhere in the front of the ship, someone gave the command:

    “Fire at will.”

“Alright, Cat. Let it rip!” He said, and anxiously awaited to see the results of the first volley.

    Gunners Chair, The Nightwing

Cat was on the move when she heard Teros barking orders. How did he get to be so strong? She was running, not too far behind Perm when she heard Teros.. "Okay, whoever you are I hope you can fly that ship. K-1, do we have weapons? Kasper, Cat, probably take them. I will do the astrogation."

Perm headed straight for the pilot's area. Was this his ship? It would make sense. Perm spoke to Cat, responding to her earlier statement.

"You wanna blow some ships? Flak battery is on the upper deck. Kids you find ammo in the large yellow box. Load, seal, aim, shoot. But you need two to operate it. One loads, one shoots. Easy enough." Perm pushed some buttons. "Hangar doors are shielded. But you know what? Let's blow a hole into the damned hull." He hissed. "That keeps him busy."

Cat grinned, as she headed for where the guns were located. She liked the way this alien thought. Kasper was with her now. “You’re good at shooting.” He said to Cat. “C’mon. I’ll load the ammo. Yellow box, right?” Cat quickly took a seat, and nodded, giving him a grin. "Yep, sounds good to me."

“Let’s g….” Kasper suddenly paused. Cat turned to look at him. “Let’s get out of here.” he finished with. Cat solemnly nodded. From somewhere in the front of the ship, someone gave the command:

    “Fire at will.”

“Alright, Cat. Let it rip!” Kasper told Cat. Cat nodded. "You just keep loading the ammo!" she told Kasper. Cat's smile faded from her face, as she turned and choose the spot to fire. "This is for all those we couldn't set free right now," she uttered softly and squeezed the trigger. She wanted to blow a hole large enough not only for the ship to get free....but to keep that demented droid from immediately chasing them as well.

And as long as Kasper kept loading, she would keep firing until the ship was free.

Resus took the first seat he could take and quickly used the belts to secure himself. They were not yet out, but he knew they would not return. This was life and death now. His whole life had turned into a series of life and death situations.

Closing his eyes he heard the other two boarding the cannon. Teros would certainly proof to be useful. But all he ... the junior ... could do was not stand in the way and pray to whatever power had guided him these last hours to help them out of this one last time.

The Nightwing, Hangar and beyond ...

The plasma torpedoes launched and a howling sound filled the hangar as they hit the hull and exploded. Two smaller ships parked nearby were caught in the explosion and as the fire settled down alarm went off and a large hole was where the hull had been. Boxes were dragged out into space. The ships nearby began to tremble. The hole was not big enough yet but there was a hole.

Then Cat and Kasper had the battery ready and with their first shot they ripped another large piece of the hull. Another shot had little effect. Then a third. A fourth. That one seemed to hit an energy cell as a whole part of the wall exploded in orange fire and slowly drifted into space. The hole was big enough now. Not comfortable, but big enough.

    Perm accelerated the ship.

A screeching sound was heard as the hull scratched against the edge of the hole to their left, but the ship forced it's way out and was in ... darkness.

Perm and also Cat in the flak battery saw only complete darkness. There were no stars. Just the void. Behind them the ship they had escaped roared alive and lights went on. A single badly aimed red plasma shot missed them terribly as they accelerated. But the ship would probably have plenty of weaponry. Automated and ancient it was nevertheless only a matter of time until they were hit if they did not escape.

The main hyperdrive was still out, but Perm saw the backup was active and ready. The back-up had only one jump though. The question was where to jump, as the navigation computer was not able to locate anything that made sense. It simply did not know where they were.

    Catherine Belworth (Cat)
    Gunners Chair, The Nightwing

Cat kept firing like mad until there was a hole large enough for the ship to fit through. There was the sound of scraping, as the ship clawed its way out of the ship, and out into open....

    BA SURAK!!

Cat bit her lip and immediately went into a neutral mode, not wanting to alert Kasper to anything wrong.

    But wrong it was.

They were away from the crazy android's ship. And then it suddenly roared to life, lights coming on. A very bad shot flew past their ship. But that was not what made Cat suddenly start offering up prayers. It was the stars. Or more specifically, a lack of any. Around them, was nothing but darkness. Where were the stars? What new version of Frey was this?!?!

Cat swallowed hard, and then leaned hard, to look and see if she could see anything behind the ship that was now firing at them. If they couldnt find someplace to go, or a place to hide, they were dead. Cat silently prayed to whatever gods happened to be listening. They had already gone through so much... how could the gods tease them so?

Cat looked down at Kasper. "We're out," she stated, as her eyes scanned all around them as much as her viewpoint would allow her to see. She gripped the guns, flexing her wrists. "Keep us loaded. That crazy droid might try for round two..." She offered Kasper a quick wink and then fell back to scanning the skies for something.

    Anything.

    .

    ..

    Help!

    Permond Rasz
    Nightwing, Cockpit

Permond stared at the dark and saw his navigation system go crazy.

"Where the Sith are we?" He gasped out and powered up the shields. They were probably faster than the ancient battleship, but it would take time to get out of it's reach. He pulled all energy to the aft shields and accelerated the ship to maximum speed, beginning evasive maneuvers.

They needed to stay alive long enough to find a way out of here. BackUp Drive was online, but that was one damned jump. One single damned jump to escape the crazy droid. If he just jumped they would end up in the void suddenly surrounding them.

"Return fire!" He yelled and hoped someone was still using the flak. The Nightwing was build to attack larger ships. They might not be able to take the battleship out, but they might hurt him. After all the droid was alone. Keeping him busy was their best bet now.

    Teros Kron
    Cockpit, Nightwing

Teros watched the explosion and smiled.

    Take that you damned machine.

Then the reptile accelerated the ship and they made it through the hole and into space ... it was a black void. Teros sat at the co-pilot chair and opened navigation.

"He brought us through a gate of sorts. I think we are at the fringe of the known galaxy. At it's very edge." He looked at the Reptilian. "But I got coordinates of a planet nearby. The only one as far as I could see." A shot from the ship missed them and Teros began typing in the numbers. He had never done this and just hoped the astrogation system was half self-explanatory.

"Can we jump?" He asked and prayed silently the answer was yes.

    Resus Kron
    The Nightwing

    Resus felt helpless and useless.

He felt like a little boy again. The others were fighting, while all he was able to do was stay out of the way.

He heard his brother from the cockpit. The edge of the galaxy? No ship had ever travelled that far. He grabbed whatever he could and closed his eyes.

Something had wanted them to come here. He remembered his dream. The planet in the dark. It was here. Nearby. He knew it was. Whatever had wanted them here had succeeded. Whatever had wanted him to break out had gotten it's will.

It could hardly be worse than what they had just escaped.
