    Catherine Belworth (Cat)
    Gunners Chair, The Nightwing

Cat was working hard to keeping her face unreadable, as she looked around the ship, keeping a close eye on the crazy droids ship, looking to see if it was going to try shooting at them again.

As if to read her mind, Cat heard Permond yell out from the pilot's seat...

    "RETURN FIRE!"

Cat was more than happy to do that if it would keep the crazy ship from firing at them again. With that, Cat gave a grin at Kasper as she swiveled in her seat.

"You heard the man. Let's get busy." Cat told Kasper, as she once again aimed at the droids ship, and began to unleash another volley of shots towards the ship. She tried hard not to think of what might be going on at the front of the ship, or where they might end up next. As long as it was far away from .. that THING.

Perhaps it was good that he could not see the deep blackness of the void and the starless nothing that greeted them once they had broken free of their prison.

His only indication of what was going on outside the ship came from Cat, and she was intensely focused on firing at their enemy.

Kasper hadn’t even yet realized that they had not jumped anywhere, much less that there was nowhere for the ship to jump to. He didn’t have to stress over the possibility or the cruel thought of being captured once again. All he was focused on was a single thing:

    “RETURN FIRE!”

The droid and his malevolent prison ship were doing all they could to rob them of their new found freedom, but he was not giving up- not without a fight!

Kasper did not stop. He kept loading the flak battery again and again. He would ignore any and all signs of fatigue. He was only interested in one thing: Destroying their enemy and escaping- whichever came first.

“Get ‘em Cat!” he cheered on as he finished loading the next series of rounds and exulted at the pounding sound of the flak cannon.

    The Nightwing, Nowhere really ...

The battleship began to awaken. One gun was joined by another and another as the massive behemoth turned to pursue it's prey. Targeting was obviously not the strong suit of the probably automated weapon system. It was probably designed to fight against other capital ships. Maybe it was from a time when smaller ships were much rarer. But the shots got closer also they missed.

Cat on the contrary could hardly miss the massive structure and her first volley exploded on the front shields.

Teros typed in numbers and the astrogation system began computing a course. It was terribly slow, or at least appeared in this situation to be.

Another round of fire was shot and this time the Nightwing was hit. Aft shields were down to 35%. Two more hits and they would begin to take serious damage. The Nightwing was much faster than it's pursuer, but it might take to long to get out of reach.

Jumping out of this was their only chance.

Cat saw from her seat another weapon activating on the battleship. A shaft opened. A proton torpedo shaft!

Kasper probably did not see it ... simply because he suddenly saw flashes of ... memories? No, he remembered nothing like this. A swamp. A sound of something moving through it. He could not see it but he was certain it was not human. It moved quickly and then stopped and he would probably realize that moment he saw through the eyes of it and it did see through his for this split of a second. It was scared. That was the last thing he saw and returned to the grim reality of loading the gun to fight for his survival.

As the volley hit the ship Resus was thrown forward. The belt kept him in place, but his hands had to push against the table in front of him.

Aldera IV. Resus would recognize his home immediately. And the holograph showed the red glowing plasma core reactor and it's specifications. As well as alterations.

    Permond Rasz
    Cockpit of the Nightwing

Permond knew they would not hold out much longer.

"We got one jump, those coordinate better be good kid!" He hissed and evaded shots by turning the ship. He had to keep the course stable for navigation to finish it's calculations.

"Target weapon systems, we need time!" He yelled into comm and tried to push additional power to the aft shields. Everything except weapons, backup hyperdrive and life support he pushed in. Every percent could save them now.

"We can take one hit more probably, before he begins to work the hull. Which means we will be finished pretty quickly!" He yelled and he knew the droid would do anything to kill them. Droids had no doubts, knew no mercy. Understood no empathy. This droid also had a taste for killing.

    Teros Kron
    Cockpit, Nightwing

Teros typed in the coordinates for the planet and frantically put his hand to the only thing in the cockpit he knew ... the hyperdrive lever.

"Ready to jump! How long does this thing need dammit?" They could hardly jump into any star out here. The only danger was the giant warship firing on them. But if they only had one jump and this went wrong ... they would be stranded in the depth of space and starve to death. Which would ironically be exactly where this all started.

Closing his eyes he hissed his fear out with the air in his lungs, calming himself.

"We win, you loose." He whispered to the droid and looked at the Reptilian. He waited for the signal, any signal!

    Catherine Belworth (Cat)
    Gunners Chair, The Nightwing

As Kasper cheered Cat on, she noticed that her shots seemed to explode before hitting the ship. Of course. Its shields! She made sure not to let the look of disappointment reach her face as her shots exploded on the front shields.

Cat suddenly tightened her grip on the controls, as the ship suddenly was rocked. Not that she had ever been in a ship battle before, but that sure felt like that was a good hit. as she kept her eyes on the crazy droids ship, she notices another weapon activating on the battleship. A shaft opened. A proton torpedo shaft! Suddenly she heard Permond's voice from the comm.

"Target weapon systems, we need time!" ..Time? Time for what? Before she could think on that question, Perm continued. "We can take one hit more probably before he begins to work the hull. Which means we will be finished pretty quickly!" He yelled. Cat looked at the opening shaft. Well, if that thing was going to shoot something at them, then it should allow her shot to go in as well. So Cat moved, focusing all her attention to the shaft.

"Load 'em up Kasper! I see a perfect target!" she yelled. Cat then began to fire once more, focusing on the torpedo shaft, and any other target that might happen to give her an opening.

[Bu-Banang!] growled under her breath as she fired away as many rounds as she could towards the opening. They would not go back. It was all or nothing.

    Aboard the Nightwing

He could feel his blood rushing through his form, thrumming inside of his being. The shocks created by each shot of the flak cannon reverberated through the floor plates and through his soul. Each shot spoke for him as well as the crew, a clear testament - a manifesto against their would be captor. More than anything else, they desired Freedom, craved LIFE! They wanted…needed…to SURVIVE!

Kasper cheered once again as Cat manned the guns and let loose another round. The Nightwing shook again as it absorbed a hit from the enemy vessel.

'Why aren’t we jumping!?' Kasper suddenly wondered with a frown, as he quickly grabbed onto a nearby handhold to keep himself upright.

Then, the room seemed to dim all around him, almost as if fading away, the sounds becoming feint, blurring, only to be replaced with what looked like a…

    A swamp?

Kasper felt disoriented, uncertain of what he was seeing, or how he was seeing it. Everything felt so real to him. Who or what was moving so swiftly? Why did it not feel human…better yet, was it his own fear he was feeling, or someone else’s? Wait….what? How was he seeing…..

Before anything else could happen, another jolt shook the silver haired boy to the grim reality of the present.

“Target weapon systems, we need time!!” he heard Perm yell from the cockpit.

"We can take one hit more probably, before he begins to work the hull. Which means we will be finished pretty quickly!"

Translation: They could NOT take another hit, especially at the moment the ship jumped.

"Load 'em up Kasper! I see a perfect target!" Cat yelled.

Kasper didn’t need any greater motivation. He pushed himself to move with greater alacrity as he loaded up another flak round.

“Blast ‘em Cat!” he shouted as soon as he was finished and was rewarded by the vibrational shock of the Flak Cannon firing- it spoke for them in no uncertain terms.

Kasper didn’t realized he was holding his breath. He could not explain it, but he could certainly feel it- something critical was about to happen.

    The question was what exactly.

ooc: Sorry forgot to post this

    Resus Kron
    The Nightwing

Resus forgot for a second they were in mortal danger. He would recognize Aldera IV anywhere and he immediately understood the hologram. The planetary core, their major power source. Of course. It had blown up and that had destabilized the planet.

The question was ... what was this hologram doing on Permond's ship?

Resus breathed in sharply as he understood what this implied. Permond had fled Aldera IV after destabilizing it like them. His ship had been faster and he had run earlier which was why he had been imprisoned already.

    It made terrible sense.

The Nightwing, Edge of the Galaxy

The battleship roared fully alive now and just as a dozen more canons woke up Cat hit her target. One precise shot just as the torpedo was about to be spit out and a massive explosion ripped through the large ship. Large chunks of the front were torn apart and the ship roared as if in pain ...

Then Teros heard the beep, pushed the lever and the Nightwing vanished into darkness. The battleship would not be in any state to follow them.

    They had escaped.

    Catherine Belworth (Cat)
    Gunners Chair, The Nightwing

Cat cheered as she watched as a massive explosion ripped through the droids ship. While Cat felt sorry for those that they were unable to help, hopefully, it would slow that sick droid down, until they could reach someone who could help them.

"BAAASAI!!" Cat yelled happily as she saw that large chunks of the front of the ship came off, and floated away. Then suddenly their ship lurched and the other ship disappeared. They had jumped she guessed. Funny, how hard it was to tell with no stars to guide them.

She wondered where they were going?

Cat looked down at Kasper. "Well, we're clear." she told him. Cat leaned back in her chair but wanted to stay near the guns, just in case. "I wonder where we are going." She said with a wry grin, but then she shrugged her shoulders.

"Guess it doesn't really matter. As long as we are away from that THING." Cat shook her head and gave Kasper a thumbs up. But she was fighting hard to not shake. So much had happened to them in just a short amount of time. But it was too early to relax just yet.

    “BAAAASCA!!!”

Cat yelled out and Kasper could see the fireworks outside light up her face. They had scored a good hit against the enemy ship.

“YAAAAAYYY!!!” Kasper cheered, unable to contain himself. He fist pumped the air for good measure, then the ship lurched in a way he recognized as signifying they had made the jump to hyperspace.

“Well, we’re clear.” Cat announced and Kasper could feel the tension he’d been holding immediately drain out of him. “I wonder where we are going.” He heard her ask rhetorically.

Kasper immediately thought of ‘Home’ and found he could not stop the somber images and thoughts that were invading his mind at that moment. He suddenly missed his Mum very much.

“Guess it doesn’t really matter. As long as we are away from that THING.”

The silver haired boy watched Cat give him a thumbs up. He smiled weakly and returned the gesture with the hand that was not wiping tears from his blue eyes. Kasper cleared his throat with a sound and composed himself. He needed to be brave, just like the rest of the crew. He had to focus on survival, not on the things they had lost. There would be time enough to mourn, but they needed to be alive to do that.

Walking up to Cat’s gunner’s chair, he came up to her and offered a congratulatory ‘fist-bump’.

“We did it.” He said, nodding, his voice cracking a little as he smiled up at her.

"I wonder how the others are doing in the cockpit, if the ship is ok….”

Kasper mimicked pointing at the mic of a gunner’s headset, indicating that Cat should inquire.

Resus slowly raised from his seat and withdrew to the corner of the lounge. He quickly deactivated the hologram and folded his arms.

What was the right thing to do now? Confront him? Trying to trick him into revealing himself? Interrogating him? Simply trying to kill him?

He doubted he could do any of those things. Permond was a seasoned warrior, that much had become clear. He was also the murderer of several million colonists.

"We made it." He simply stated as Permond entered the lounge and bit his jaw so hard it hurt.

He gave Cat and Kasper a tortured smile as they appeared. Then he gave his brother a long look and a nod.

    Lounge, Nightwing

Teros realized the reptilian, was he actually a Falleen? ... took a gun from under the controls. He still had the plasma cutters, one one his back and the smaller one hanging at his side. At least they were not without weapons.

Slowly he followed the pilot to the lounge. Once they were there he began to talk. "We seem to have been brought to the edge of the known galaxy. Just if anybody wondered about the darkness. But now we are on our way to the only planet in the area. I saw it on a star map aboard the ship." He smiled. "We made it out of there!" Teros gave a relieved laugh.

Then his eyes caught his brother. Something was wrong. He did not slow it to show. "We are far beyond Republic space. Resus tell me if I am wrong, but no expedition reached this area of space. Ever? Right?"

    The Nightwing, Ship’s Lounge

Almost as if on cue, Kasper heard Permond’s voice as he spoke to the ‘crew’.

“Great job everyone. We made it and that crazy piece of metal paid a price for what he did to us. That ship will need repairs before following us.”

From where he stood, Kasper grinned at Cat, glad to hear the news.

“Everyone to the lounge. We got half an hour before we arrive at our destination and we need a plan."

“Destination? what destination…?” Kasper wondered aloud as he made his way out of the gunner and loader’s post and quickly joined the others in the lounge. His initial excitement was tempered somewhat after seeing the weird smile Resus had greeted him and Cat with, then a serious look at his brother.

What’s that about? He wondered to himself, a slightly perplexed expression forming on his face as he looked to Cat, wondering if she had caught the silent exchange as well.

Ironically, Teros had answered his other unspoken question. Kasper felt the ship make the jump to hyperspace, but he only saw darkness through the viewport. Teros’ explanation, that they were at the edge of the known galaxy, cleared any confusion he might have had.

So apparently they were beyond Republic space.

    Just our Luck

Sure. They got away from the killer droid, but could not be certain if it was destroyed by them. It was quite likely it might follow them and seek revenge, if it was still ‘alive’, but Kasper didn’t want to think of that, nor the strange vision he had.

“So, what planet are we heading to?” The silver haired boy asked, curiously looking to see if K-1 was around.

    Resus Kron
    The Nightwing

Resus found it hard to concentrate on his brothers question, but he felt his inquiry might be even more important to their survival than his finding.

"The edge of the galaxy? No, nothing came even close. We are probably in a completely unexplored area of space. A gate you said brought us here?" Resus wondered if there was a gate back. Because if there was none ... they would never return to known space.

Then again what waited for them back there? A Republic orphanage? Maybe this here was better than that. At least if they assumed this droid was gone.

He turned to Kasper. "I guess we are on our way to a planet none of us ever heard off. A planet in completely unknown space could be anything. I think it is habitable though. Call it a hunch."

The voice had called him. He had no doubt the voice was on that planet. The deadly cold it had emanated made him feel uneasy.

So did Perm. He looked over to the holo-board and then at the Reptilian. He did not dare to confront him yet. But the man was probably responsible for the death of everyone he knew. He would not let him get away with it.

    Chapter 2: Beyond the Stars

The Nightwing, Edge of the Galaxy

    K-1 entered the lounge last.

"The chances a single planet is actually having an atmosphere is about 1.25 million to 1." He stated calmly. "If anybody is interested. The ship is in a bad shape I have to say. Obviously you have not been caught by our former host without resistance. The energy core is fully fueled, but power converters are unstable. The main hyperdrive core misses several stabilizers who have burned through. I assume you have been forced out of hyperspace the same way we did, also your ship took it much better. Without them being replaced it cannot be repaired. The secondary drive is highly unstable, but works for now. As soon as we power it down I doubt the energy system will allow us to boot it up again without replacing the ion shielding. As we are about to burn our remaining coaxium for this jump I guess this is a minor problem though. There is a good chance we will arrive at our destination without fatal system failure though. The good news is life support and communications work very fine. Also my impression is there is nobody there to call." The droid looked at the young escapees.

"The other good news is that against all odds you are still all alive. Also starvation is still a very likely scenario you have at least saved a few days and will die in a much more comfortable environment now."

K-1, still a source of negativity, looked around. "Shall I return to my repairs then?"

"Then I really hope it's not a swamp planet, cuz I had a really bad dream about a swamp."

Kasper shivered without meaning to, his mind doing all it could to shake off the eerie feeling that threatened to envelop his consciousness. He shrugged at Resus as he continued.

"I'd much rather stay on the ship if that case." He admitted.

He also realized he had not slept since their arrival wherever 'this' was, except for the brief 'nap' he was forced to take after receiving a blow from the evil droid.
Suddenly he Kasper was feeling tired and he fought back the urge to yawn.

"Hey, K-1!" Kasper exclaimed, brightening as soon as he saw the little droid- who characteristically went into a pessimistic update of their situation.

Kasper looked at the droid in disbelief.

    "Wow, K-1. Thanks... I guess...."

    Permond Rasz
    Lounge of the Nightwing

Permond nodded. The boy was right and so was the droid. If they were beyond Ilum or Bakura, they were beyond anything anyone had ever explored.

"The droid is right. One way journey. Wherever we go, if we don't find spareparts for my hyperdrive and some coaxium there, it is a one way trip." He announced. "This was our only jump." With a sigh he folded his arms and leaned against a pillar. "We got rations for about a week on board. The engines are fully charged so at least we should have energy for a while. The droid took most of my weapons though, so this here ..." He drew the blaster pistol and held it up.

"That is all we got. 25 shots. I can build us some weaponry from ship parts though. Bows, spears and such stuff. We also have the turbo laser flak to defend ourselves if we need a little more firepower. Depending on how much you used I should have between 15 and 20 shots left and in cargo I got a spare proton torpedo and one or two plasma mines." It was not much, he knew that. Barely enough food for so many mouths to feed. He also knew there was the escape pod, but that was something he kept for himself for now. The package with supplies there would be his reserve.

"So let us hope we find some kind of civilisation where we are going." He finally turned to K-1. "Yes, proceed with repairs."

    Catherine Belworth (Cat)
    The Nightwing

Walking up to Cat’s gunner’s chair, Kasper came up to her and offered a congratulatory ‘fist-bump’ to Cat, who responded to him. “We did it.” He said, nodding, his voice cracking a little as he smiled up at her. Cat only nodded. The adrenaline was still pouring through her, so she was just was working to control herself. "I wonder how the others are doing in the cockpit, if the ship is ok….” As soon as Kasper made the comment, a voice came over the radio.

["Great job everyone. We made it and that crazy piece of metal paid a price for what he did to us. That ship will need repairs before following us."] There was a pause before Permond continued.["Everyone to the lounge. We got half an hour before we arrive at our destination and we need a plan."]

With a shrug of her shoulders, Cat jumped out of the gunner's chair and landed lightly on deck next to Kasper. "Let's go." she simply stated, as she made her way to the lounge.

Resus and Permond were already there as the pair entered the room. Teros was there as well, and Cat gave him a slight smile, happy to see them all together once again. But as she made her way over to a seat, she could not help but noticed the looks that were passing between the two brothers. And a look from Kasper, let her know that he had also seen something. He gave Cat and Kasper a strange smile as they appeared. Then he gave his brother a long look and a nod.

Cat tried to listen as she heard them speak about being out of the edges of normal space and heading for a planet that was in the area. The only planet it seems. “So, what planet are we heading to?” Kasper asked, just as K-1 walked into the room. Cat was even happy to see the crazy droid, as she watched him walk in. And in his usual tone, he began to give his assessment of the situation. Which seemed to go from horrible to disaster. Basically, the ship could break, possible starvation, the ship might blow out, the planet might not have an atmosphere, but hey at least the life support and communications worked great. K-1 paused for a bit, then added, "The other good news is that against all odds you are still all alive. Also starvation is still a very likely scenario you have at least saved a few days and will die in a much more comfortable environment now."

Cat bit her lip. She almost laughed out loud and managed to muffle the sound to a soft chortle. She wondered about the planet. Was there a star nearby? If not, this planet might not be the haven they looked for. She heard Kasper speak softly then.

"Then I really hope it's not a swamp planet, cuz I had a really bad dream about a swamp." He paused, then continued, "I'd rather stay on the ship if that case." He admitted. Permond continued. "The droid is right. One way journey. Wherever we go, if we don't find spare parts for my hyperdrive and some coaxium there, it is a one way trip." He announced.

"So let us hope we find some kind of civilization where we are going." He finally turned to K-1. "Yes, proceed with repairs."

Cat spoke up very softly then. "Yeah, that a problem. But if that psychopathic toaster was going through this...whatever it is, then its a good chance that it will be heading there as well. We hope that this planet has an atmosphere we can deal with. And we better think about what we might be able to do if it does show up"

Cat stood up. "But if we got 30 minutes or so before we find out, then I'm going to go back to the gunner's chair. Cause there is nothing else that I can think to do at the moment. Cat gave a large yawn, waiting to see if there were any other discussions. But this was far beyond her level of expertise, and she really wanted some time to clear her head, before she broke down.

    Resus smiled at the others.

"I hate to point it out, but our situation has become a lot better. We are in reach of the planet and have done rations and a good supply of oxygen and a ship. Before we sat in a tincan with a fair chance to suffocate within hours and no chance to reach a planet." He leaned against the table that included the treacherous hologram and tried to relax. He had escaped death three times within twelve hours. What could the planet do worse than kill him?

"So you got cabins on board do you? I could use some rest. I can share one with my brother. We are used to it."

    IC: Kasper
    Aboard the Nightwing

Before he realized it, Kasper stretched his arms wide and gave a big yawn.

“Oh wow, sorry about that. Guess I’m suddenly feeling very tired.” He offered a fatigued smile.

Now that all the excitement was over, his body was beginning to shut down.

“I can spleep anywhere, cabin or no cabin.” he said, looking around for a comfortable spot to sit or lay himself down.

    Permond Rasz
    Lounge of the Nightwing

Permond smiled at the kids. "Rations are in the locker over there, cabin down the corridor. You already know where the canon is Cat." He spread his arms. "You are the Nightwings crew now. Consider it your ship."

The boy knew something, all his instincts told him that. He had to deal with that before the knowledge spread and these crafty teenagers with a talent for survival came up with a plan.

"I am gonna stay in the cockpit." He announced and made his way back.

    Teros Kron
    Lounge, Nightwing

Teros nodded at both the remark of his brother about their situation and the suggestion they could share a room.

He waited for everyone else to go their way and then walked over to his brother. "Let's grab a room and you tell me what is wrong." He knew his brother when he was tense. It was his little brother. He also knew when he acted as if he was not.

Walking down the corridor he took the smaller plasma cutter from his belt and handed it to his little brother. "Not a blaster, by this thing cut straight through the droid. I believe this thing went crazy and cannibalizes his peers. I saw some crazy things on that ship."

    Catherine Belworth (Cat)
    The Nightwing

As Cat had stretched, Kasper stretched and gave a yawn “Oh wow, sorry about that. Guess I’m suddenly feeling very tired.” He offered a tired smile. “I can sleep anywhere, cabin or no cabin,” he said, looking around. Permond spoke up then.

"Rations are in the locker over there, cabin down the corridor. You already know where the canon is Cat." He spread his arms. "You are the Nightwings crew now. Consider it your ship." Cat nodded and gave him a slight grin. That sounded good to her. And some food would probably help. Cat looked up as he announced that he was going to the cockpit, and walked off. She looked at the two brothers, and then back down at Kasper.

"I'm going to grab something to eat and head back to the gun. You welcomed to bunk in with me. You probably should get something to eat yourself."

With that, Cat went over to the locker and opened the door. She searched around until she found something interesting to eat. She left the pantry open for anyone else, and then she headed for the gunner's area. She sat down on the floor, and popped open up the rations and gave it a sniff, hoping that it was something a human could eat.
