And I’d argue that’s exactly why the film doesn’t feel like your standard cookie-cutter blockbuster. It has blood and guts. If that’s “inefficient on-a-whim-pointless,” we could use more of it. Filmmaking ain’t engineering. Or at least, it shouldn’t be.

 

Err, there's like zero blood-and-guts in R1, and it's not really any grittier than Solo is on balance.

*Shrugs* Glad he was the first director to get to try his hand at an anthology, but honestly I kinda figure any future anthologies if they restart 'em might all be a little grittier than the saga stuff.

Those things are great, and I hope we go back to Jedha and see them in the Cassian show. Currently, they’re visible in the background of two shots in Rogue One.

 

Which two shots? Jedha at beginning , Saw's gang meeting Bodhi or when U- wing is flying over?

 

I currently count 4 different shots!
- When Cassian and Jyn first arrive in the city (Background - Can't see a stormie on it's back though as it's from a lower angle)
- Just before the "rebellions are built on hope" scene. In the background
- When the partisans are getting ready to attack you can see 2 through the slits in the window
- After K2 catches the grenade there is a view of the whole city and you can see 2 in the bottom left of the screen!

I love looking for stuff like that. I was chuffed when at last I spotted the naboo fighters in TROS. My fave deleted scene ever is Jyn facing the tie fighter down and Luke and friends in Tatooine

Mine is the Luke in the sandstorm one, has a very cool dune vibe about it! Man I wish that scene could be cleaned up...
