Neither do I.....but I can find some spare change for the Rogue Squadron books as those are the only ones out to the Essential Legends Collection that were never released as hardcovers. Having them as trade paperbacks is as close I’ll ever get, what with the SFBC books being horribly overpriced and unavailable.

I’d like to ask, what do people think the chances are of getting Wedge’s Gamble, The Krytos Trap, The abacus War and Isard’ Revenge as trades and unabridged audiobooks?

My inner fanboy would be overjoyed if we got all of them!

Your only option is to buy them and encourage others, as sales are what will get you further volumes - or not.

    I smell opportunity!

If there are any Trolls for the Mouse reading this:

A series of collectible dust jackets for the entire EU library.

Hardbound or Paperback...a paperback dust jacket...brilliant!

Special editions, fan art editions, shiny foil editions, retro editions, faux-medieval editions, Aurebesh editions!

Few bucks a sheet (probably about as much as I paid for the whole book back in 1995.)

I wonder what else they consider Essential for this collection... any ideas? I mean, I wish for a rerelease of all YJK books with new Solokid and friends art as covers. Or NJO onwards covers feat. more characters. But would such late Legends even count for the collection?

I can see why they picked Zahn books, Darth Bane books, X-Wing books. Those are either tied to canon characters (Thrawn, Bane) or fanfav enough and noncontroversial like X-Wing, tied to concepts and crafts from movies.

But Courtship, Jedi Academy, Crystal Star, YJK, NJO onwards? those are not tied to new canon stuff enough to be marketeable maybe.

Dawn of the Jedi books? TOR MMO books like Revan novel? Clone Wars era books, maybe even Republic Commando. Those could fit the collections modus operandi so far.

thoughts if I am on to something or off?

As much as I want new New Jedi Order series releases, I'm not holding my breath for them.

Republic commando would fit rather nicely with the Bad batch.

Kenobi, Thrawn Duology, Labyrinth of Evil and maybe Outbound Flight would be my guesses. I don't see them committing to any more series, unless this is going to continue for longer than I thought.

    My guess
    Thrawn
    Bane
    Plagueis
    Rogue One
    Probably Labyrinth of Evil

and...maaaybe the Revan book since Revan.

Like really an see the ones that somehow tie in with whatever they are currently doing with current canon but that's just me.

Outbound Flight does make sense, since the Ascendancy Trilogy is basically a direct sequel to it.

That's fair especially considered how much of that story was brought into canon.

It needs a new audiobook too. There’s no unabridged version.

    Being realistic
    outbound flight
    Revan
    Pelagius
    Kenobi
    All seem pretty certain

my hope is that they will finish the Rogue Squadron novels and get them put out Digitally in the dammUK!

Despite the character's popularity, I think the novel Revan is too controversial among fans for them to consider putting it in this set of books. Also, the other books in the collection are stand-alone stories or part of a series, whereas Revan is a The Old Republic tie-in novel.

I don't know if fan controversy necessarily means anything though for I see the Essential Reades Guide as something to introduce new fans to Legends as well. Hence why it's Essential which will mean new fans can get into.

Also IDK Bane is sorta reliant on a lot of KOTOR lore, Revan himself playing a big part of the book series.

The Darth Bane books draw on a lot of lore, but they definitely stand on their own.

I would say that Revan is an essential character, and Knights of the Old Republic an essential story in Legends, but that Revan is not. If someone is reading the Bane books and wants to know more, the best place to go is KotOR.

Here's something I just came across, an ebook collection from 2012 called The Essential Novels. Here are the 10 books that someone thought were essential:

    The Old Republic: Deceived
    Republic Commando: Hard Contact
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader
    Death Troopers
Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor
    X-Wing: Rogue Squadron
    Heir to the Empire
    Vector Prime
    Legacy of the Force: Betrayal
    Crosscurrent

Obviously, some of the thought process here was trying to get a book from every era which may or may not be a constraint of the Essential Legends Collection, but it's an interesting list. The only author with two books is Paul S. Kemp!
