The Fanfic Gamblers’ Den a.k.a. the TLJ Spoilers & Speculation Betting Pool PLEASE TAG ALL SPOILERS FOR TLJ WHEN POSTING IN THIS THREADINCLUDING SPOILERS FROM OFFICIALLY RELEASED MATERIAL Welcome to the Fanfic Gamblers’ Den, the only place on the boards where you can gamble your future on plot points that you expect to find in TLJ! Why should you gamble, you ask? Because you’re a scoundrel who has no time for the odds, you enjoy sipping contraband booze in the company of smugglers and bounty hunters in seedy cantinas, and you’re greedy for fic-gifts, cover art, e-books and anything else you could win by participating in this challenge. HOW TO PARTICIPATE By placing a bet on a specific plot point in TLJ and announcing your stakesExample:Luke Skywalker says: “I’m betting cover art that Rey is revealed to be my daughter in TLJ. The Force is strong with her.” OR By countering someone’s bet and announcing your counter-stakes.Example:Snoke counters: “I’ll see Skywalker’s cover art and raise him a fic-gift that Rey isn’t his daughter. She can’t possibly be a Skywalker! My preciousssss!” DEADLINES All bets and counter-bets must be placed by 09 December 2017(i.e. the world premiere of The Last Jedi.) Winners and losers will be announced in this thread on 15 January 2017(or earlier if all participants have seen TLJ before this date.) WINNINGS Once winners and losers have been announced, the losers must deliver the stakes they wagered.Depending on the nature of the stakes, this may take some time. You know the drill. The pair who placed the best/wackiest/riskiest bet will be awarded 72 hours of colours by the mods. MORE DETAILS 1. You can place as many bets and counter-bets as you want. 2. You can’t modify your bet after it’s been countered. 3. Bets are between two people. Once a user’s bet has been countered by another user, it’s locked, meaning that no one else can take it up. First come, first served! You’ll find a tally of bets and stakes in post 2 of this thread. 4. The wording of bets matters. For instance, “Rey is Luke’s daughter” is a different bet from “Rey is a Skywalker” (her surname is Skywalker, wherever it is she found it), which is different from “Rey is a descendant of Anakin Skywalker” (she could be Leia’s daughter, or the daughter of Anakin’s secret child.) 5. Counter-bets can be as general or as specific as you want. For instance, you can counter “Rey is Luke’s daughter” with: - “No, Rey isn’t Luke’s daughter” – in which case you win as long as TLJ tells us that Luke isn’t her father, even if we still don’t know who her father is;OR- “No, Rey is Obi-Wan’s granddaughter” – in which case you win only if TLJ tells us specifically that she’s Obi-Wan’s granddaughter and that Luke isn’t her father;OR- “No, Rey is revealed to be another character’s daughter” – in which case you win only if the identity of Rey’s father is revealed in TLJ and it’s not Luke. 6. If a plot point that was wagered upon isn’t addressed in TLJ, both bettors have to deliver the stakes they committed (in the example above, this would be the scenario where TLJ maintains the ambiguity about Rey’s parentage). The same goes for bets where both bettors turn out to be right or wrong in their assumptions. 7. You can offer anything you’d like as stakes: fic-gifts, cover art, advertisement space in your signature to give a few examples. The sky is the limit. 8. Please don’t discuss the contents of bets in this thread. If you want to argue about who Rey’s father is, there are plenty of threads for that in the New Films forums. 9. Please PM me if someone places a bet on something that was already revealed in officially released material as of the day the wager was issued, so that I can ask the bettor to withdraw it. If the plot point is revealed in later material (e.g. a TV spot that comes out in December) but before the TLJ premiere, the bet still stands. SPOILER POLICY Please read the Fanfic Spoiler Policy before posting in this thread. Out of courtesy for your fellow fanficcers, please announce the theme of your bet in open text but put the details behind a spoiler tag. This is an ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT if the contents of your bet are based on leaks. Here is what your betting post should look like: And the counter-bet: Now place your bets, and may the Force be with you!
