    The Blasphemous and the Forbidden
“Some secrets are better of kept hidden and some knowledge is better forgotten.”
    - Jedi master Tionne Solusar, storyteller, historian and keeper of the jedi library

    Draug casket
Draug is an ancient word for a kind of corporal undead, a walking corps if you will, and draug caskets are items of forbidden sorcerer-science that reanimate the flesh of the recently dead. Resembling large (at least 1 m3) holocrons, draug casket’s emits a strange kind of energy, called hel energy, that reacts together with dead flesh, saturating it and filling it with unnatural falls-life.

Alone so is the hel energy enough to bring corpses back to a uncontrolled and spasmodic mockery of life. However, if the energy was to be focused, by a Force user with the right training or a receiver unit (which may be attached to any reasonably intact corps), the corpses are fully animated, sustained and controllable.

The receiver unit usually takes form of a large spiderlike construct that is attached to the chest or the back of the corps.

Hel energy emitted by the draug casket is invisible but have an audio effect perceived as a distant, rhythmical drumming.

Draug caskets are forbidden in the Republic, Hutt space, the Chiss Ascendancy, Hapes Consortium and most neutral planets that know of them. The government of Dahrtag have standing bounty for any draug casket destroyed.

Groups that have been known to use draug caskets were the Graush society of the old Sith empire, the blasphemous Orzhov heretics of Dahrtag, the fallen Sorcerers of Tund sect Karnakians and the sorcerers of Rhand’s black sorcerer-scientists.

    Necrofag
Created through forbidden sorcery-science from fresh corpses, necrofags resemble their original form only lightly. Their bodies are gaunt, with blackened skin and all their facial features are gone, except for their lipless, fang filed mouths. Their creation process also gives them claws if they lacked it before. They “see” their surrounding by a combination of a kind of Force based “radar” and an ability to sense life around them. It seems they are also able to feel light and/or darkness since they are always moving in the darkest areas, unless ordered not to.

Necrofags are not that smart but they are cunning, are capable of learning, know how to use darkness to their advantages and seem to know their capability. This means that they will not attack things/groups they don’t have any chance of wining against, if they are not ordered to.

They are able to follow simple orders like: “kill”, “follow”, “protect”; but also more advanced orders like “patrol and kill any who you meet”, “stay in this territory; kill any who is alone; attack groups but leave at least one alive; don’t risk your existence”.

On the other hand so can they not “see” the differences between droids and have been known to attack people protected by elite combat droids without any real strategy since they can not “see” the difference between f.ex. a protocol droid and a combat droid. This can be fixed by giving the necrofag cybernetic implants, like cybernetic eyes or a wireless link to probe droid/s and a computer who inform the necrofag about the threat level.

A special ability necrofags have is that they can “heal” their damage by eating the flesh of the living or just recently dead. Of some reason so do they prefer the heart and liver, and will eat those before taking anything else.

After their creation so do necrofags need to regularly “feed” by either killing and eating the flesh and life force from its prey; bask in hel energy or being “feed” Force energy by a necromancer.

    Reanimation scarab
Those scarab like constructs were first recorded in use by the ancient Order of the Terrible Glare. The scarabs were sent out on the battlefield and in enemy hospitals to burry themselves in the dead and the dying, after they have done that they relised a combination of alchemical potions and energy that reanimate the dead flesh for a short while.

The reanimated corps is rather unintelligent and clumsy, if strong, but is filled with an artificial rage against the living and will attack any larger living being in their vicinity. If there is no one near them they will begin to walk around aimlessly until they either find someone to attack or their falls-life ends, usually after one hour.

The reanimation scarabs, or devises similar to them, been seen in the hands of the Orzhov heretics of Dahrtag, the exiled Sorcerers of Tund sect Karnakians, the Ebonskull fleet of the Blazing Chain and the Sorcersr of Rhand, among others.

Like the draug casket so are reanimation scarabs illegal in nearly all known space that knows about them and Dahrtag have standing bounty for any destroyed.

Hello all! Just a few Fanon Thread updates:

First, on some technical matters. It's been brought to my attention that some of the links in the index of this thread (post #2) don't always behave as they should: some of them seem to be sending people not to the specific post but to the top or bottom of the page that the desired post is on—and whether they do this or not seems to be dependent on the browser being used. (In my own case, some of the links that work all right in Safari—yes, I'm one of those Mac people—won't work right in Firefox, and vice versa.)

I'm in contact with the admins about this issue and we're doing what we can to resolve the issue, but what we did ascertain is that all the index links will work correctly in Chrome. So the best advice I can give for now is just to say that the Fanon Thread is best viewed in Chrome. :D (I found that all work fine on my iPhone, too; if anyone has had issues with index links on mobile, please do let me know, and I'll pass that on to the admins.)

I've also gone through the first two posts of the thread and cleaned up the formatting a bit. Any issues or questions about those, just let me know.

I finally managed to update the index of the Fanon Roulette Challenge (deadline 4/18/16) with the one story that's been submitted so far (thank you, divapilot). Do feel free to check in here and let us know how that's going for you, or if you have any questions.

And finally, I am thinking it might be time for a new discussion topic. Any fanon-related topic in particular you all would be interested in discussing? Just to get the ball rolling, here are a few ideas:

    • Fan-created languages and portrayal of non-Basic languages in the GFFA
    • Clothing
    • Books, their equivalents, and any other media technologies
    • Food and beverages
    • Life-cycle customs (e.g., birth, coming of age, wedding, funeral, etc.)

Thanks, and as always, happy fanoneering! :D

    PLANETS IN THE UNKNOWN REGIONS

"Death and glory, horror and bravery, loyalty and corruption - all these can be found here. But mostly death."
    - Illtraveller Ovidius

    -----------------

    Northern Unknown regions

    -----------------

    Gjorgji
The chiss colony world Gjorgji is a world of contrasts, the cites are technological advanced with skyscrapers in Russian revival and Modern style where self-driving electrical automobiles transport people and goods along the city roads. Every middle-class-and-upward household have at least one robot servant, beside their chiss ones, and most modern houses have voice-controlled light, sound and TV systems.

Once you get out in the countryside things quickly change; the architecture resemble the Victorian countryside and is often well worn and the machines used by the farmers and villages look more at home in 1950’s-‘60’s with little electronically parts, maybe a radio, and little terms of comfort either. They are also driven by alcohol instead of electricity. A countryside household probably have little in the way of modern technology, probably noting more then a radio, refrigerator, electric stove and light, and sometime not even all that.

Gjorgji is an autocratic monarchy with a just as autocratic aristocracy that control large amount of lands on which they have in practise near total power over both the land and the people on it. The religion – which is a combination of pantheonism, animism and ancestor worship – is in bead with the state, the monarch is actually the head of the ‘church’ in theory and is considered a kind of demigod.

In theory, do Gjorgji have free speech but there are a lot of laws, technicalities and taxes making it hard for anybody who is not state-sponsored to get any kind of large share when it comes to newspapers, radio or TV. This makes it hard to get to objective sources of information outside of the cities, since the only sources available are the state-controlled radio, newspapers and the sermons from the clergy. On the other hand, people in the city can get to proper information if they want to and there are many discussion groups and societies trying to change the current situation. Of course, the government tries to keep tabs on all those groups.

When it comes to clothing so do the modern city people dress like better of Viking, (just google 'Viking clothing' for an good idea) while the country people dress like old school Russian peasants. The in-fashion among the youth resembles the flapper style, this for both genders, and is worn with or without trousers depending on weather and taste.

The Gjorgji food resemble the one you could find on tables in 20’s-30’s U.S.A. even if it is sunk down with tea from samovars or Gjorgji’s counterpart to vodka.

The dominant art style on Gjorgji resemble japans the Rinpa school; apart from the style used for religious motives, which is highly artistic and similar to techniques used in creation of orthodox icons. Many people carry around small icon painting as religious talismans.

Gjorgji’s armed forces are made up by normal soldier and robots. The robots, that come in many shapes from humanoid to different attack crafts, are usually lead by a chiss officer since they are not known to take initiative on their own. They have a tendency to relying on their forces quantity then quality.

The planet lack any real space-defences but after some space pirates attacks so are they working hard to develop better defences.

They lack force fields and energy weapons and their technology have no defences against ion attacks.

Gjorgji lay outside Chiss space and had no contact with the Ascendancy until around 50 years ago. They are right now negotiating about how to turn Gjorgji into a Ascendancy protectorate. The main problems are that Gjorgji’s monarchy and aristocracy don’t want to lose any of their privileges or show them self “lesser” while they do want the protections from raiders membership in the Ascendancy would provide and that the Ascendancy don't want to bind themselves to a world they are not fully certain they have the resources to defend and even want.

    -----------------

    Tofslan
From space it is hard to believe that 90% of Tofslan surface is water with the globe being green with only spots of blue. The reason for this is that a majority of the planet's shallow sea is covered by mangrove forest. Tofslan lay a bit south-south-east of Chiss space

Tofslan have a population of sjaastjaernaswho have been living there for unknown ages. They have an advanced hunter-gatherer society and live in semi-permanent villages of weaved twig huts in the threes. There is also an Chiss Ascendancy base on Tofslan.

The base have the function of a listening post to warn the Ascendancy of coming attacks and as a temporary homebase to scout ships. It lack any kind of real defences and instead relay on Tofslan's location outside of any easy hyperspace path.

The chissknow of the sjaastjaernas but consider them only semi-sentient at best, even if some of the people who spend time outside of the base have begun to question it. Sadly the commander of the base and his second are that kind of people that would need to be hit in the face with sjaastjaernas doing highly advanced art, mathematics and engineering before even considering them more than smart animals that are just mimicking their betters.

    -----------------

    Central Unknown regions

    -----------------

    !amael
An arid world cut by near-dead rivers carrying water from the polar caps to the remaining grassland sea beds. At flood time, they throw clouds of explosively evaporating vapour into the !amael sky, producing a short, intense global rain that keeps the world barely alive.

The inhabitants on !amael are aihai and lives as settled highland and canyon dwellers in small villages, towns or a handful of larger town or in nomadic/seminomadic tribes traveling between the settlements or pasturages. There are also ruins of ancient cities dotting the planet but those are considered taboo by all aihai.

All aihai on !amael usually go naked beside a serape and one or two belts hanging from their hip or neck from which their smaller possessions hang. Ornamentation takes the form of bracelets around their arms and legs. They use sun and wind powered electric devises (the nomads carry portable solar cells), and are armed with repeater slugthrower rifles and long bladed short spears. Beside airships so do they lack any kind of mechanised transports.

Even for aihai so are the !amaelians silent and there can be days when not a word is uttered in a tribe or village. They know that there are other, space faring, people out there, even if outsiders seldom come to !amael, those who do usually trade technology for fresh water and food or raids settlement for it and slaves.

    -----------------

    Yhoris
A world of flat land and shallow seas, with noting to hold it back the ranging storm winds that eternally circulate the planet. Only in the deep canyons have life been able to evolve without being whipped down or picked up by the wind. The canyons are connected by artificial tunnels and trenches that make it possible to travel between them without constant danger to life and limb from the wind. Many of the tunnels and trenches have trains going in them, sometime all the way to the other canyon but often only partway.

Yhoris is populated by aihais, sjaastjaernas and Ma'alkerrite ape-men.

The people of Yhoris are divided in city-states, with each city-state built above an ancient power plant. The yhoris know how to maintain the power plants but are unable to build new ones. Beside the city-states do there also exist client cities and smaller settlement.

The yhoris lack any kind of hover of flight technology, too dangerous in their eyes, and usually travel by train. Their city-states are protected by small (ca. 5 m tall) mechas.

The aihais of Yhoris are, for aihais, talkative which means to most other species that they are few worded. They and the Ma'alkerrite ape-men dresses in clothing resemble the Apaches, with blue as the main colour, but with jewelleries similar to the Berbers. Their warriors (the once who don’t pilot mehas) use automatic slugthrowers and powerpack powered lightning guns.

    -----------------

    Ignarh
A large moon, tidally locked around a large gas giant. Life have evolved in the eternal light of the moons dayside. The landscape is usually uneven and rocky, it lack real forests but there are many tree groves. The people of Ignarh, who are aihais, live as nomads on the back of ill-tempered lizard beasts and trade, raid and make war with each other.

The ignarhians are proud, honourable and savage; they have no problem killing another sentient because of a minor insult. They decorate their skin with ritual scars and piercings made from bones and copper. Beside copper and silver so do they lack any metal and fight with spears, arrows, axes and clubs.

Ignarh’s system lay beside one of the secret paths used by pirate lords of Umuruwa for their raids against the planets and traffic across the Hestus hyperlain and they often use Ignarh as a staging point for those raids. The ignarhs have come to accept the half-bothens and trade with them and sometime the half-bothans allow some ignarhs to accompany them on raids, the ignarhs see that as a great honour and anybody who return from such an adventure are greatly looked upon.

    -----------------

    Kurel
A arid and nearly barren planet covered by one continent that is only broken by lakes and the rivers that feed them. It stopped being geological active ages ago and there are great amounts of tunnel systems and caves below the surface.

In ancient times Kurel most have been a world of importance because great ruins of temples, palaces and fortress are found all-over the planet and there are no mountain that have not had parts of it carved into statues of long forgotten great men and gods.

Kurel's population [which I keep non-specific for now so any author can use whatever species s/he wants] exist at many different technological levels, from stone age to industrial age that use wind and sun power (there is no fossil fuel on Kurel), and in many different societies.

There is little Kruel have to offer outsiders beside fresh, if dry, air and maybe some food but there are rumours of forgotten technology and artefacts hidden among the ruins. Most ignore those rumors but from time-to-time somebody decide that those rumors are worth investigation and sometime they even find something among the ruins. Or at least that is how the stories goes.

Some Sorceres of Rhand make pilgrimage to Kurel becous they see the planet as an exelent example of the philosophy.

    -----------------

    Rajiumanuptra
A world 99% covered in deep, dark sea and the three moons that circle the planet creates a difference between ebb and tide that can be over hundreds of meters. What little dry land there is are the highest tops of the world’s highest mountain ranges.

Unknown ages ago Rajiumanuptra was colonised by mykes whose decedents live in tunnels in the mountains and every day is a struggle to keep the water out and the heat in. Something not made easier by the amount of leviathan and kraken creatures that lives in dark sea’s deep.

Most of the inhabitants technology is similar to late 19th-centuri to early 20th-century technology with some exceptions.

    -----------------

    Myrkyllisyys
A world laying outside of the Perann Nebula that have been destroyed by eons of industrial pollution. The surface is a wasteland of ash and accumulated industrial waste, dotted by atmosphere piercing hive cities. The air is tick with pollution and poisons to most life

Each of the hive cities is a citystate of its own, ruled by a senate made up by representatives of the oligarch families, guilds and worker unions. The city senates in turn send representatives to the planetary senate who decide on decisions that would affect the whole planet. This is the theory, in truth so is Myrkyllisyys under the rule of the Sorcerers of Rhand and the senates are only allowed to make decisions about things that the sorcerers are not interested in.

The Sorcerers of Rhand uses Myrkyllisyys to produce technology and chemicals they use and as a staging point for their expeditions in that direction. They also press gang hive citizens for use for experiments, as slaves, cannon fodder and sometime as students. Myrkyllisyys create nothing that the sorcerers cannot be without but if they somehow lost the planet their plans would have a setback.

The people of Myrkyllisyys [once again keep non-specific for now so any author can use whatever species s/he wants] have a tendency towards deception, seeking advantage, patronage, and bitter feuding. This can be found from the highest oligarch matriarch to the lowest trash scavenger and is not made easier by the cramped and low-grade conditions most of them live under. It is unknown if this temperament is something that have developed because of the presence of the sorcerers or have developed “naturally”.

The hive cities are theoretical self-sufficient when it comes to things as water, air and food but still import water, air and food since their own is bland at best and usually taste of recycling.

There exist a handful of Sorcerers of Rhand that live on Myrkyllisyys permanently and they are spread among the cities since none of them really trust the other and find it easier to work without having to worry about a death spell in the back. This don’t mean they don’t communicate or work together, they just do it through holograms and monitors.

The Sorcerers of Rhand find Myrkyllisyys as a prime example of their philosophy and many of them see great beauty in the wasteland. They seems to be ignorant of, or are choosing to ignore, that there is life in the wasteland, mutated to be able to survive in the hostile environment and this ability of living things to adept and cling to existence is anathema to their belief.

    -----------------

    Umigame
A hot world of endless deserts, impenetrable jungles and sweeping plains.

The home world for the krashraks species.

    -----------------

    Fuyunoniwa
An ice-world whose population live in underground ice cavern systems and survive thanks to hot springs and bio-dome sanctuaries created by jury-rigged technology. The Fuyunoniwe are taungs and ulvens (feral near-arkanian) who exists as tribal tech-barbarians.

There are multiply signees that when the ancient taung first colonised Fuyunoniwa it was a much warmer world and remains of their technology and structures are sometime found in the ice. The different tribes are in constant conflict with each other over heat, resources and technology.

The wars between the tribes of Fuyunoniwa are without mercy, where those who die have to be fed into the reprocessing units or the whole system will fail. Those who have lost a war will see their young adopted into the wining tribe, their strong turned into slave while their week or to strong willed will be killed of and fed into the reprocessing units.

    -----------------

    The pirate lords of Umuruwa
The Umuruwa system, whose six planets are all colonized by half-bothans, where once ruled by a royal family whose line supposedly went back to the original colonization. When the royal family’s line finally went out a civil war broke out between the noble families. After a near century of war a truce was declared between surviving families, with their home worlds devastated by war and their ambitions still burning hot they gazed outward. Repairing the surviving spaceships, the warlord remade themselves into pirate lords, taking great advantage of Umuruwa’s place near the Kanashiminokawa hyperlane.

Now a-days each family control a small flotilla of pirate ships and they compete with each other about who can bring most spoils from their raids, sometimes working together to bring down larger targets.

The pirate lords use ships with a design similar to Captain Harlock’s Arcadia.

    -----------------

    Kinkien
On the fertile world of Kinkien the dominant lifeform are gargantuan gorans (how the gorans come here or become so big is unknown) whose prodigious appetite makes them constantly migrate across the globe, eating everything in their way.

Only land high up the steepest of mountains are protected from the gargangorans (as they have come to be known) limitless appetite and it is here one part of Kinkien’s population live while the other part live on the back of the herds.

The Kinkienans have mostly late pre-industrial technology, ignoring a lack of fire weapons, and the use of hot air and gas balloons. They trade with outsiders from space, gargangorans meat (their penises, smoked and spiced, are in request on many worlds as aphrodisiacs and as medicine against impotence) for technology.

Kinkien lie in Green Kensei space.

    [More to come later]

    -----------------

    Brandrôd system
A system with three gas-giants that together have twenty-three living moon, twenty which has exactly the same ecosystem with fungus and coral jungles and mangroves. The reason for this is believed to be an ancient “terraformation” project which also can explain that all twenty moons have the same gravity. The animal-life on the moons is amphibious, insect or mollusc like and is crocodile-sized as larges.

The three other living moons are ice worlds with cnidarian like fauna, each different from the other.

The moons population is mostly made up by sjaastjaernas, duros and myke.

The Brandrôd system lie in Green Kensei space.

Bikinis have panties cut below the navel/belly button. Technically, not all two-pieces are bikinis, so if we're going for absolutely minimal coverage, that's not enough.

    Immobiliser 418 Interdictor-class heavy cruiser

Designed by Seinar Fleet Systems, and using hulls for the Vindicator-class heavy cruisers, these vessels were aimed at preventing the disappearance into hyperspace of enemy, eg. Rebel, starfighters, after their raids on Imperial assets.

In a capital ship engagement, they generally could not look after themselves, and had to be paired with an escort vessel, typically a Nebulon-B escort frigate, or a Victory-class Star Destroyer.

Admiral Jon Thaw was convinced that Jedi were involved in her disappearance, and was allowed several star destroyers to pursue leads until Governors and Moffs complained about him blundering through their territories, and Naval Command shut him down.

The Secret Galactic Intelligence Service (SGIS), jealously guard the location of the re-named Haven, and maintain the vessel as a sanctuary for surviving Jedi. However, due to some betrayals, jedi have to be trusted before its existence is revealed to them.

Ah, the Earthisms issue again. :p

Here are my thoughts on the matter: I know we have seen things like that in SW, but I'm not actually fond of the fact that we have, if that makes sense—given that neither the Champagne region of France nor the Bikini Atoll exist in the GFFA, it just seems a bit incongruous and atmosphere-breaking to have things with those very same names in the GFFA. Yes, I know there are gray areas, fine lines, etc., and we could probably discuss this till the shaaks come home, and it's probably better for Pet Peeves anyway. But that's just my two cents on the issue, and the approach that I try to take in my own writing.

My general rule is that if it's the exact same thing, then it ought to keep the same name it has in English, unless the English name originated from a proper noun (person, place, brand name, etc.).
