Hello fanficers! We know the awards have gone through many changes in the last few years, that’s because we’re trying to find a way to continue to do what the awards are intended to do: celebrate good fic for the year, but in a way that works for this community as it is now. Last year was sort of a last ditch effort to keep the nominating/voting format, making it as easy as possible for people to nominate and vote, but after allowing almost a year to sit and think on it, we feel as though we still didn’t see numbers that equate to the probably hundreds of hours spent on it, the feelings that get hurt, not to mention actual money we spent to use SurveyMonkey. But we still want to allow people to celebrate the great fic that was posted this last year, so we’re going to try something new... again. There's no awards format that will make everyone happy, yet is still fair and sensible for the people doing said awards. This is simply the solution we are trying this year. How It Will Work Below is a list of categories, starting on Sunday, February 17th we will post approximately 3 categories on each Sunday. You can either then post the story(s) that were your favorite for the categories given that week, or if you’d like to remain anonymous, you may PM us your stories and we will post a batch of them at the end of the week. The next week we will post the next group of categories, and so on until we reach the end. We’ll then make a master list of The Favorites of FanFic 2018 and it will remain stickied at the top of resource for the rest of 2019. The rules are going to be very simplified, hopefully making it easier for everyone. PLEASE read them and follow them, there aren't many. Little mistakes start adding up to a lot of work. Rules No submitting your own stories. Any funny business with socks will result in a ban. Stories must have been STARTED between January 1st, 2018 and December 31st, 2018. Please note, this is different than past awards. Stories that were started before and continued in 2018 are not eligible with one exception as noted in the category definitions. Right or wrong, how the story is prefixed is how you should submit it. If it has two prefixes, you may pick one. If it's just Saga, pick the one you think is the best. The interpretation of other categories is up to you. If you see a mistake in someone else's submitted stories (be it your story or someone else's) please just let it go unless you strongly feel it's a malicious work around the rules (e.g. you know for a fact it's a sock). It creates a lot of work when there are a bunch of tiny things that need to be changed when they usually aren't hurting anything. We'll chuck out any clear mistakes (e.g. posted in 2017, blatantly wrong category) when we make the master list. You may submit two stories per category If you miss a week or are running behind, you can post them for 1 week after new categories have started. When you post for the categories, please post the category, the story title, author, and a link to the story. You may post two stories under each category heading. Example: Favorite One-Shot I'm Not Throwing Away My Shot by Hamilton If I Throw Away My Shot... by Also_Hamilton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burr–Hamilton_duel Best Epic The Other 51! by Alexander Toby's Tome of Too much Tautology by Zigler https://www.dictionary.com/browse/tautology Notice one way is hyperlinked the other way shows the link. Either is fine. There will not be a list of eligible stories made, you gotta do it old school, but at least there is a search function! Tips to help you find eligible stories: If you click on "start date" that is at the top of the story boards (in the list that says "Title, Start Date, Replies, Views, Last Message") it will sort the stories by newest start date to oldest. Stories posted in 2018 go back to around page 14 as of January 22nd. If you are looking at the boards sorted by last message (which is the default) stories posted in 2018 go back as far as page 20 as of January 22nd, but keep in mind there are stories that were not started in 2018 in that list. You can also filter by prefix by clicking on the prefix you only want to see (Saga-PT, Saga-OT, Beyond, etc.). You can also search for specific authors in the search function. If you need any help with how to do any of these things, please contact us. Note: Please don't give commentary or ask questions in this thread. This thread is for posting the stories submissions only. There is a Favorites of Fanfic Festival Social & Questions Thread for asking questions, discussing the fics put forth, thanking people, etc. This is so this thread is just the stories for people to read until the master list is posted.
