Yeah, I actually enjoyed Crystal Skull.

However, reading the BBC review (warning: don't read that review if you don't want spoilers) seems to indicate the film is going to be "meh".

Indy 4 has a RT critic score of 77% but obviously has a much more split audience score. Perhaps this is like Super Mario Brothers which was mostly panned by critics but obviously a giant hit with fans.

Just the more I read about it including a bit of the spoilers, the less I am interested in the movie. Again much as I dislike Indy 4, it end the franchise with a nice gift wrap bow. I must admit ever since Indy 5 was announced as a go, I been looking for reasons to be interested in it beyond just it being another Indy movie. I am still looking for it.

I don’t think Indiana Jones has the young movie ticket buying fan base Mario does to make it that kind of hit.

Indy’s main demographic is people who were alive in the 80s.

Yeah I don't see how this is appealing to a younger audience who probably haven't seen Indiana Jones & don't want to watch an 80 year old man try to be an action hero

    I agree, it is

    Until the end

@Jedi_Sith_Smuggler_Droid I meant more it will be liked by fans more then critics but agree this is geared to middle aged people who were kids in the 80's. Young people either never seen it or is just something their parents made them watch like my kids. I will say my kids do like them. It isn't one of their favorites by any scretch but they did enjoy them.

What's bothering me most, though... (and these are definitely SPOILERS from the BBC review, don't open it unless you want to know)
.. this is supposed to be Indy's 'swan song', which on paper sounds like a wonderful idea. Only... where is everyone? It's nice that Sallah gets a brief cameo, but where's Marion? Short Round? Jock? (We can skip Mutt).
Also, the BBC review mentions the chase scene through the streets of NYC during a parade are for the returning astronauts of Apollo 11... and it's just used as a backdrop! It sounds like as if in Last Crusade Indy had gone to Berlin to retrieve the diary, beat up some nameless Nazis and then left.
I'm also not really hearing 'easter eggs' - if this is it, reference it all, the novels, the comics, the TV show, the video games (especially "Indy 3.5", aka Fate of Atlantis). Even a "Hello, I'm selling these fine leather jackets" would go a long way.
Sigh. Well, I'm still seeing it. But, man, after getting great 'returns' like MST3K, or Twin Peaks, this feels... disappointing, to say the least.

I'm not looking forward to the fallout if it underperforms.
Social media is filled with toxic grifter content creators trying to blame wokeness for everything and constantly claiming Disney products will fail because they aren't the target audience anymore.
A $300million movie failure will make them think they're right.

Basically every movie does this with their premieres.

Even with Star Wars Episode III and all its secrecy, I got to see it over a month early because I had 2 cousins working at Hasbro. And that wasn't a premiere, just a special showing because Hasbro makes Star Wars toys.

    @Ghost

What was that like seeing it a full month before most of the world? What’s the effect of seeing the ads and other promotions peak after you saw it? Do you tell people about it before they could see it? Did you see it again?

Reviews are mixed. Seems for every good review i read there is a bad review. But they are certainly not all bad. I have heard is plays it a bit safe (like Force Awakens) so maybe this accounts for the average reviews. I imagine this will make money, but not be a Force Awakens type hit.

With such a huge budget, it will need to make a lot of box office money to be considered successful

It was Star Wars Episode III and I was 15. Of course I saw it multiple times :p

I said I had secret info here (I didn't say secret showing at Hasbro, just "my uncle" works with Star Wars or something like that, so I wouldn't get my cousins in trouble, didn't know how many secret showings there were, I also saw toy descriptions and action figure photos for burned Anakin with Palpatine kneeling on the lava bank to save him like a year before the movie was out)... and was banned here for like 3 months because the mods at the time didn't believe I had info or something, so I had no one else to talk about it with :p Most of the movie plot was already out there, but I wanted to talk about some specific things with people, or clarify how some things in the spoilers were actually depicted on-screen that there was confusion/speculation about. But I didn't share anything with people unless they wanted to know more. I don't really remember much about the ads/promotions for it (I just remember them for Episode 1 because it was everywhere, like giant banners for Padme Amidala and Jar Jar and Qui-on and Maul in every Stop&Shop, a character for each aisle), but I'm sure everyone sees ads for movies after already seeing the movie so nothing groundbreaking there.

I saw it on the day of the premiere in 2005, after a marathon of the other 5 movies.
It was introduced by Lucas himself, who was attending the premiere in the cinema across the square.

    Those were good times

True. But most of those aren’t for a Star Wars movie back when that meant something. The prequels were anticipated like it was biblical prophecy.

This is what I meant. I bought a lot of Phantom Menace stuff before the movie came out. Had I seen it a month early I don’t know if I’d have done that. It also would have changed seeing ads everywhere. I’d actually know who the characters are in context with the story.

Was that in England? Is it the most time you spent in a movie theater in one sitting? How long was the screening?

Last one. What did it feel like to see the new movie after the other five?

Does a film's success or lack thereof stop these people or their audience?

No, but it hurts their credibility if media succeeds that they say will fail.
And the more they're wrong, the less their followers trust in what they say

It was in the Empire Leicester Square (opposite the Odeon which hosts many of the big premieres including ROTS). When you bought a ticket you got a special card with a sticker and you could only watch ROTS if you'd seen the other 5 movies and got 5 stickers.
I forget how long it was, I think it started at 7am. I remember ROTS started late because we had to wait for Lucas to come from the premiere to address us. So it was pretty late when we left, after 10pm at least.

    Still, the atmosphere was great.

It was a weird feeling to finally see it though, considering we saw the OT first and the TPM & AOTC so we could get the PT together for the first time. The reception for Episodes I & II was mixed, lots of booing when the titles were read out and popcorn throwing when Jar Jar appeared.

But the first time people saw Grievous do the 4 saber stance.... the guy next to me got so excited I thought he'd pass out

Hey, I'm still waiting to see how Indy lost his eye, and I doubt this one will reveal that .
As for the negative reviewers who think Lucasfilm maketh a blight upon the land, I stopped watching those a while back because they got really tiresome. Not liking a movie or movie franchise is one thing, but behaving as though your not liking it is a sign of the End Times is something else. I admit I'm going to wait for the reviews before I decide on seeing this or not, but I'm not going to condemn Kathleen Kennedy if I decide to pass on it.

    If it is……

There needs to be some changes in Lucasfilm.

Lucasfilm can not afford future Star Wars movies to be….mediocre.
