The JC "Main Banner" Contest

Original Trilogy villians, eh? Good idea.

Please everyone, remember, this banner will be what we will have to stare at for several months. Don't make something too freakin' flashy and that will ware out in two minutes, because, believe me, no one wants to stare at a banner that wore out its welcome for too long.

As a graphic artist myself for several years, simplicity is efficient. Bluging text and images will get you nowhere. Take the YJCC banner for example, it is simple, but cool. An overbulged banner, like the current main, AOTC, and TPM banners will just get old.

Remember this, and may the force be with you.

 

About how long will this new banner be up?

 

Until spring, I think.

So anyways... Here's the 1st stage of my 1st "Main" design:

Obviously there are items missing, because I can't decide on certain details as of yet. But I wanna hear what you think of how the concept is so far. Any suggestions/comments?

Yea, theyre both good but they look like a bunch of random pictures.

Look at the one now, it shows a variety of Star Wars pictures in a very set out manner. You just need to step it up a level

But those were good starts, try compare them to past Themes

 

benji has a great point. i think we really need to get away from just throwing random images together (i.e. "big head" banners) and calling it a day. i think it would be great to see banners that have more of a central focus. something as simple as the latest 3SA or JCC banners look great and aren't so busy or cluttered.

Thank God! I felt obligated to follow in the "Big Head" path like the older banners... now I can dump this version and really make a banner!

 

You wont win by making more of the same, try some out there design

We need something different around here Id make it myself, but The most complex program I can use is MS Paint

 

While I go start over again on my terms, I'll leave you with some fan art I made myself for another forum. It's DBZ, but it'll demonstrate my imaging skills... and this banner's really old too.

I reworked an old Indy Knight banner I did, hence the color scheme and why it sorta goes with it, but that's more of an accident really.
