Great playlist JTS. And great anecdotes. I'm now at La Casa Azul, which is not the best track, but I recognize a Commodores sample so I won't slag it.

La Casa Azul are an acquired taste for sure. I didn’t really love that song until I saw their uber-cheesy, Logan’s Run inspired video:

Crap. I'm going to stick with my vote, but I'm a sucker for music videos.

The Prodigy and Sonic Youth brought me way back. But I'm voting Felicidad because it's the best song.

 

We're all going to end up with very eclectic tastes.

I have to wax on about Sonic Youth.

I weathered punk, thrash metal, gangster rap and gabber house. I thought I knew it all. I was twenty years old.
Then one night, I visited a local house DJ. We were going to jam. But we never got to jamming, because he preferred to play me his Sonic Youth albums. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It was totally different from anything, ever.

I remember the date, Oct. 4, 1992, because that night an El Al plane crashed into an apartment block in Amsterdam. This is my local "Where were you when this happened".



You can hear echos of Sonic Youth in Nirvana, but even more so in the quieter Foo Fighters songs.

 

loved the whole list, but my initial 3 standouts are rosalía, the duke spirit and sonic youth. went for rosalía

 

gawd now you've made me think about adding a particular decemberist song to my list (in addition to the nmh one that's already there)

 

Now I'm going to be really disappointed if, in the middle of listening to your playlist, we're not abruptly subjected to a wail of "I LOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOU JEEEESUUUUUUUSSSSS CAHRIIIIIIIIIIIIST"

 

I went with Boogalo, although the Sonic Youth song was second.

 

I sure hope it's The Mariner's Revenge Song. The precedent is already there for longer songs; don't be shy, put some more.

 

Mariner's Revenge is one of my favorites. If I'd had more time to think at least one of their songs would have wound up on my list.
