@ViariSkywalker Is it okay if the pairing in the story is a very dysfuctional one (or even downright creepy), or does it have to be a proper OTP, i.e. a happy-warm-fuzzy couple any sensible person can get behind and root for?

 

I have a couple of questions:
1). Does the OTP have to currently be in the relationship with each other? None of the people I’m writing are actually on their original timelines or with their significant other at the time.
2). If the OTP is involved, does there have to be romance?

 

Anyone may answer.....What is 'OTP'?

 

It refers to your one true pairing, which can be two established characters, two original characters, or one each in a romantic relationship. Usually it refers to the couple you love together the mostest or cannot imagine them being with anyone else.

Examples: Han and Leia; Luke and Mara; Corran and Mirax.

I have an EC/OC pairing of Kyp Durron and Sevrina Bendal.

 

It's definitely okay for the pairing to be dysfunctional or creepy! I'd even argue that there's no such thing as a "proper" OTP - or at least not any rule for what counts as your OTP other than maybe "I really like the romantic dynamic/potential between these two characters" - so don't feel you have to stick to the warm fuzzies if you don't want to!

The OTP does not have to currently be in a relationship with each other! The dynamic between the OTP characters should be relatively central to your story, but that's it, anything else is game. That means no actual romance is required either. I hope that helps!

@WarmNyota_SweetAyesha gave a great response already, but just to confirm: OTP does indeed stand for One True Pairing, and in this context we're basically using it as a shorthand for "write a story about two characters who are romantically involved in some capacity". Some people only have a single OTP, or they might have one OTP per fandom, while others have many OTPs in a given fandom, or they might multi-ship... the term has broadened over the years to encompass many different types of romantic relationships and "shipping" preferences, so a lot of us end up using OTP to refer to any characters we like to see as a couple, whether we're diehards or not.

It makes it a tad easier, but it's really no problem if you don't. I have a chart where I keep track of completed entries, and if I see a blank slot, I'll check that person's thread to make sure I don't miss anyone. So if you forget to post in here or would prefer not to, it's genuinely no biggie.

 

Once again I have not titled my Week 7 because it just follows the story from weeks 3 and 6. Happy writing, and happy weekend, everyone!

If you're still working on your week 7 stories, those are due tonight at 11:59pm EST - and if you’ve already finished, it's time to move on to our next prompt! • Write an AU (alternate universe) story of at least 400 words where the moral alignment of one of your characters is the opposite of (or drastically different from) what it is in canon and/or Legends (or the source material, for OCs or NSW fandoms). For example: Qui-Gon as a Sith Lord, Tarkin as a Rebel, etc.
• Minimum 400 words, no maximum limit
• Entries due Monday, March 10th at 11:59pm EST

That's right, the moral alignment swap is back! And while I say "moral" alignment, I also mean for that to cover situations where characters essentially swap sides. For example, maybe your character is still a good and loyal soldier in this AU, but they're on the opposite side of the war than they are in canon. Or maybe you just want to write Jabba the Hutt as a beloved philanthropist, or Princess Leia studying the Sith arts and wrecking her enemies alongside dear old dad. We had some great stories come from this prompt the first time around, and I'm eager to see what you'll do with it this time.
