Raine rolled her head as the young king started issuing orders to his troops. She shook it briefly then ran after him.
"We must march together, not divided. If you insist on this course of action, of course i will follow. However I hope that your plan is going to work, because i do not want to loose men pointlessly for your war!" Raine shouted before sighing heavily. "I chose to support you here, I do not expect anything in return but your gratitude... and maybe debt! Oh **** it, let's kick some Dundien hide!"

"OOC: Wait just a minute! When were we battling by a river? I believe that I described the battlefield in this post."

That was what I thought as well. I am fighting your force that just rode in from Rohan, the one from the river is still not engaged yet I believe.

PS about that 5000/3 Division thing. I had 1500 troops marching from Isengard, I just forgot to change the # of Divisions when I updated the troop #'s. If you look to the post before that you will see the extra troops enroute. Sorry about the confusion.

The corrected version for that force should be.....

    5 Infantry Divisions (5000 troops)

Well, you didn't have any troops there so it would be reasonable to assume that the Riders of Rohan would have control of the province once they reached it. You mention a GM post turning control of Enedwaith over to me. Can you cite one for when you captured Dunland? I also didn't think it was necessary to make an IC post indicating their arrival; I'm handling a lot of soldiers right now and ICing posts for all of them would eat up my free time incredibly fast. I was under the impression that it was sufficient to post their arrival in my army logs. I think that we should let the GM make a call and abide by that decision. I will rewrite that post if necessary.

I asked Jango via PM before taking profits from Dunland, the reason I was allowed to take Dunland without a battle was because of diplomacy. I will waith for Jango to post before I go on.

Just this for now.... though more will come later

IC: The Witch King of Angmar
    Location: Outside of Foroth

The Witch Kings horse flew down the road towards Foroth. He could smell it. The Walled City was brimming with fear. It stank from miles away. The ride was a long one, from the Ettenmoors to Foroth... but now he had arrived. Ahead of the Witch King, a group of black clad soldiers. The standard compliment to enforce the siege. And two to his left, two to his right.... the siege towers.... accumulating a thin layer of snow on their armored tops.

The Lord of the Nazgul slowed as he approached the checkpoint, the troopers snapping to attention at his sight.

"Sssir!" the head of the contingent stammered. "Ssso good to see you sir."

The group fired of quick salutes.

"Where can I find Norik?" the Witch King asked, his horse passing through the checkpoint.

"The camp is at the base of the 1st Brother Sir." the head soldier said. "Up the snowbank."

The Witch King rode up the bank, not thanking the trooper. Now that he had arrived, it was time. The Battering Rams were being housed between the two left towers, the first and second brothers. They had recently arrived from Carn Dum, with the accompanying Infantry Division encamped around them. The Witch King rode towards Norik's tent, the troopers outside stopping to watch, or bowing as the Lord of the Nazgul rode by.

As the Witch King approached the tent, the heavy figure of Norik strode out, scratching his bristly beard. He gave a salute in front of the looming visage of the Witch King.

"My Lord" he grumbled, lowering his salute.

"It is time Norik." the Witch King said. "Time to end this pathetic charade. Withdraw Iron Spike from the field and load them into the siege towers with Doom Obelesk. Our infantry shall be the shock troopers. Form Oznik around the battering rams and ready them on the roads, away and out of the range of the trebuchets. Begin preparing the forces for our ultimate assault."

Lystro entered into Norik's sight and floated towards the Witch King's side.

"We assault by nightfall. Have the troops ready."

The Witch King and the Wraith rode to the top of the highest snowbank, overlooking the small Forochelian plains. The Witch King and Wight poured out their darkness, working to tandem in an attempt to shroud the hearts of the city with it. Should the Ice Lord look out over the plain, the Witch King would have been easily seen.

Over the rest of the day, the soldiers and commanders surveyed the surrounding lands. A night attack always entailed more danger, but it would be only way to preserve a majority of his soldiers from the trebuchet fire. They would attack in silence by the cover of night. The Snowmen would never know what hit them.

The addition of the Dunedain greatly strenghtened the Hobbit's will to fight. While it seemed the armies of Umbar and Rhun were concentrating on the Rangers, the Hobbits charged into their formation's left flank. The Rangers and the Hobbits now had the forces of Rhun and Umbar caught in an "L" like formation with the Hobbits attacking from the left and the Rangers attacking from the north. The archers did some considerable damage to the Dunedain, but it still could not stop their onslaught, heading straight for the Rhun and Umbar armies.

There were major differences in the circumstances though.

I made 2-3 IC posts utilizing diplomacy in a land that had already been brutalized by Rohan, he made no IC posts eluding to any strategy at all and gave no chance to develop a counter. Not to mention that Enedwaith had already pledged allegiance to Isengard and is hostile to Rohan anyway.

I also did not slaughter the citizens in Enedwaith so wouldn't they also get an opportunity to form a militia as did the Dunlanders, or for that matter the defenders at an unguarded Helm's Deep. ;)

I guess the decision is made already though so moving on...

IC: Saruman and Captain Gnarf, Southern edge of Fangorn

Saruman sat upon a black steed at the front of his soldiers as the first signs of Isengards retreating troops emerged from Fangorn, his old crooked fingers gripped the staff in his hand staff more tightly at this sign of this weakness. The Great Eye would not accept failure, nor would Saruman. The Ents were a danger to everything, all that Isengard could become is restricted by the threat in its backyard, and the White Wizard would have no more of it.

Some time had passed, and as the troops continued to regroup the crafty wizard of the tower had come to a decision. One that would end the time of the Ents on this land, "Captain Gnarf!" Saruman called across the lines, his fragile sounding voice carried across the wind to the ears of his captain, and in minutes the orc was nearby breathing hard from his short run. "Yes my lord?" He asked, his eyes could not hide the fact that he was eager to hear of his master's plan.

Saruman sat tall and regal in his saddle, "Order your men to spread oil in the forest, spread it far and deep. Then light the torches of Isengard and burn the forest to the ground, I will lend my magic to the task and ensure the final doom of the Ents." The orc bowed and turned to spread the orders, Saruman watched with a fanatical gleem in his eye for a few minutes, and raised his staff aloft and began his own work.

At first only soft whispers carried on the wind, so faint one would swear it was only imagination, but ever more increasingly the words in the wind became stronger. Saruman's voice was soon clearly heard infused with the wind, infused with magic and power. As the spell of the wizard continued a steady wind picked from his back and travelled into the forest, this would ensure that the fire was pushed deeper into the ancient land, and above the clouds began to roll and thicken as if a mighty storm not seen in centuries was about to break over Fangorn.

Soon as the thunderheads formed, lightning would crash down into the forest spreading more fires throughout the land. The hand of the Ents would be forced, either leave, or die with the forest. Saruman did this with regret however, not for any misplaced love of the trees, but for the valuable resources that would be lost to him.

Warg Riders, form a spear and drive into the center of the Calvary, Infantry follow behind and aim your attacks at crippling those horse." It was a risky tactic, but this was a critical hour. The archers took a considerable toll on the Rohan calvary, as would be expected. With nothing to hinder them, the Isengard archers could pick off the Rohirrim all day. The Warg riders formed a spear formation, as had been ordered, and attempted to drive into the Rohan calvary. But with their superiority in strength, speed, and numbers, the Rohan calvary was able to withstand the charge by the Wargs. The Warg formation dispersed into the Rohan calvary, causing the battlefield to become more of an unorganized maze of smaller skirmishes.

Reynal didn't care about these reports, as long as it didn't involve him, his money, or Bree. Suddenly his door burst open. A tall man clothed in black entered his office, sword drawn.

"What are you doing here?" Reynal asked.

"I am Dran of the Breeian Independence Movement. We are tired of your opression...of your high taxes," the man smirked. "I'm here to take Bree back...for the people."

With that Dran lunged foward and stabbed Reynal in the heart. Dran walked back outside and blew a horn that was swinging from his side. All of a sudden, fighting men appeared out of the woods around Bree, and from houses within the city itself. It seemed an uprising was about to take place.

Finally he saw the leader of his forces and called to him, as soon as he was near Saruman swung his staff and knocked the orc cold without even a word. Now he would have to fix what his captain had done, it was time for him to speak with Treebeard personally.

He found the ranking Uruk-Hai commander and ensured that 1 Division would remain out of the forest until he came back and under no circumstances were they to entere the forest again, the bulk of the infantry and Uruk-Hai divisions were to march to join the battle in Rohan. Time to make things interesting.....

    IC: The Lieutenant of Barad-Dur

The Lieutenant's steed approached the banks of the River Hoarwell, just east of the Trollshaws. As he approached the river, the Mouth of Sauron could feel power, darkness engulfing him and his surroundings. He could sense the Ring was close. He dismounted his horse and waded knee deep into the water. He could hear something speaking to him, perhaps it was the Ring, perhaps it was his master, or perhaps it was both.

He reached his hand into the water and suddenly the Ring found his hand, as if it had a will of its own. The Lieutenant of Barad-Dur lifted his closed hand out of the water. He opened his hand and the Ring was revealed. Suddenly, the Lieutenant began to speak:

Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk

Writing on the Ring appeared as though it had been burned with fire. This was indeed the One Ring. The Mouth of Sauron finished the peom:

    Agh burzum-ishi krimpatul

His task was done. Now all he had to do was return the Ring to his Master, and then it would begin. Suddenly, something caught the Lieutenant's eye on the far side of the river. He looked up to see Gandalf the Grey, sword drawn, mounted upon a white steed.

"I heard rumours of the Mouth of Sauron roaming about these parts," the Wizard began., "but I did not believe them."

"Leave, old man, before you expierence the wrath of Mordor," the Mouth of Sauron warned. "I have the Ring now, and soon Sauron will have it, and then your world will fall."

"I shall not let you leave here unchecked," Gandalf stated.

"You cannot defeat me, no more than you can defeat Dark Lord himself," the Lieutenant hissed.

Gandalf could feel his spirit weakening, as if some spell had been cast upon him, "Saruon will never rule Middle-Earth. Not as long as King Elessar sits upon his throne, not as long as the powers of Rivendell and Lorein remain."

The Mouth of Sauron laughed, "Are you so foolish as to believe that Men and Elves are the true Lords of Middle-Earth?" He cackled again, "Sauron has entered the souls of all who walk upon Middle-Earth beckoning them to make war and destroy each other, even the Elessar himself. Sauron is weakening Middle-Earth for his onslaught that is soon to come.?

Fear began to creep into Gandalf?s mind, heart...and soul. He knew what the Mouth of Sauron was saying was true. Deep down inside himself, he knew.

?Do you know why Sauron forged the One Ring? Why he mingled his own blood in its creation?? the Lieutenant of Barad-Dur asked.

Gandalf just stood speechless as the Lieutenant pierced into the very depths of Gandalf's being.

?Sauron forged the One Ring to attain himself enough power to....overthrow Morgoth,? the Lieutenant laughed again.

Gandalf snapped out of the trance. He lifted up his staff as a bright light began to shine from it. ?Enough of this,? he said, sending the ray of light toward the Mouth of Sauron. Suddenly, a ring of shadow and flame leaped from the Ring engulfing the ray of light and launching back at Gandalf. The ring shadow and flame collided with Gandalf, breaking his staff and knocking him off his horse.

?So passes Mithrandir, the Grey Pilgrim,? the Lieutenant laughed. He mounted his horse and rode east.

OOC: I was wondering when that part of the story was going to come into play, this should get good.

By the way, since you mentioned Gondor and Lothlorien, are you going to find new Gms for them or play them yourself?

    IC: Saruman, Fangorn

As the Wizard rode through the forest he spotted Treebeard ahead as he turned to the south and saw Saruman. He picked up a dead log and held it in his hands. "Have you come to negotiate?" Saruman reared his horse to a stop near the great Ent, "No my friend, I have not. I have come to apologize for this most terrible crime committed by men under my command." He spoke with a convincing sincerity.

After a moments pause he continued, "Had I but known I would have done whatever I could to prevent this, and once I heard I travelled immediately and ordered my men away from your lands." Saruman knew that the Ents prime motivation was to live in peace, with that in mind he finished his plea, "I beg you to allow an old friend his mistake, and I vow that should you grant Isengard pardon we shall never enter Fangorn again." The wizard looked directly into the old tree herders eyes, "Of this you have my word."

No, I'm just going to play them. They won't have major roles, but their presence will be known.

Also, I forgot to announce: Congratulations to Winged_Jedi and Imperial_Hammer for their victories in the Spring 2006 RPF Awards!

    IC: Treebeard

Treebeard stroked his beard with his free hand as he contemplated Saruman's proposition. At last, he laid the log down and began to speak. "Very well...friend. All the Ents desire is to be at peace."

The battle was about to start. All the troops were there and there were reinforcements on the way. Nargoth could not wait to show those stupid Grey Mountain Orcs what Moria ment when it promised demise. Naroght stood up on a rock, and adressed the assemble army.

"My friends, this is the begining. This is where we start. Fight for your family! Fight for Moria!" With that, the troops split up to acheive their objectives. Nargoth stood in front of his 4000 troops, and held his hand up. The battle cry was deffeining.

IC: Battle of the Grey Mountains

The battlefield was an open valley with mountains on all sides. Two-thousand orcs of the Grey Mountains gathered in formation at the northern edge of the battlefield with the Moria Orcs at the south. Their weapons and armor were crude, much like their Northern Orc kin, but they were heavy in numbers. The Wertan, chieftan of the Grey Mountain Orcs, sitting upon a warg at the head of the formation, decided to wait and allow Moria to make the first move.

And make the first move they did. The chieftan of the Moria Orcs signaled for the attack to begin. Five thousand orcs with five hundred warg riders charged at the Grey Mountain Orc army. The suprerior Moria Orc force met the Grey Mountain Orcs in a great clash, with the Moria army overwhelming their opponent. But Wertan had them exactly where he wanted them.

Suddenly, one thousand orcs poured out of the mountains at Moria's flank. Above them flew a dragon, one of the fiercest creatures on Middle-Earth. It is not known whether the Grey Mountain orcs have tamed the beast, or if had been disturbed by the battle.

    IC: Sarmuan, Fangorn Forest

Saruman bowed his head low before the mighty Ent, "Then peace you shall have Treebeard.". The wizard then turned his horse and spured it to a gallop, soon he was emerging from the forest and took command of the division that waited at the forests edge. "We ride to Rohan!" Saruman's voice rang out, it was a clear siren call to his orcs and all could hear him as if he was standing nearby. "Already new forces are marching forth from our gates, and we shall meet them and march down upon our enemies together!" His fanatical voice roused a loud roar from his approving forces.

Below in the valley all could see the additional divisions of infantry that they would join with, soon all 3000 orcs would be adding to the presence in Rohan. In addition to that a new archer division was marching towards Dunland, the presence of 266 bows would be critical to holding the eastern nation. As Saruman rode at the head of his force a twisted grin broke on his face, he personally would set in motion a series of victories that would eventually cripple Rohan and make it his own.

The archers were becoming a thorn in the side of Rohan. Their volleys had inflicted devastating casualties on the horsemen. Haim decided that it was time to extricate and dispose of that thorn. ?A thousand men are to go and wipe out those archers.? He yelled to one of his subordinates. ?The other cavalry are to concentrate on the infantry.?

Éor looked sourly at the man in front of him. He had been subjected to a rather nasty headache all day and was in a foul mood. ?Deliver your report,? he snapped, with more fore than was really necessary ?I can?t sit here all day.? ?Y-yes, Sir,? the man ? youth really ? stammered. ?It?s Bree. Sources in the village report the death of the current leader, Reynal. A group called the ?Breeian Independence Movement? is taking over. The group is led by one called Dran. They are still in the process of gaining control.? Éor?s headache flared up. This did nothing to help his mood. ?Get out of my tent. Wait outside.? He thought fast, trying to ignore the pain. They had to stall for time until reinforcements could arrive. Their small force might not be enough to stop this Dran and his army. Fortunately, help was on the way. He had just submitted a request to headquarters last week for soldiers to expand their territory. Éor suddenly had a brilliant idea. He called in the man who had delivered the news. ?Send soldiers in ? disguised of course ? and try to find the Loyalists, those who still support Reynal. Explain that Rohan will step in to quell this uprising and that they can help ? but they must withdraw to the camps of Rohan. Meanwhile send in Rohan?s best diplomat. Send in the Negotiator.? The Negotiator was a legendary figure in Rohan diplomacy. He was the very best that they had. He had been assigned to Rohan?s northernmost army to safeguard Rohan?s interest in an area bordered by hostile powers. Now he would use his talents on the Breeian Independence Movement to stall for time. The man left. Éor sat there. He hoped it worked, he really did.
