It must be nice for teams that don't have to think about luxury tax threshold; whether they're already over it or not.

 

New Rays stadium in Downtown St. Petersburg. Sounds like a proposal for the Trop site is still under consideration as well.

Interesting that they concept everything but the field of play.

That roof better open.
I know Florida is a sweaty armpit 95% of the year, but if they get a pleasant day now and then, make it feel like real baseball.

They should also include a catwalk...just for tradition.

I still think this goes no where and the Rays are outta town.
I think baseball if about to enter an era of itinerant teams.

 

I've never been to a game at the Trop, but I had once drove up to it and walked around during the offseason. I was in town for the Yankees' Spring Training, and I just figured I'd take a ride out there just to see what it's like. As crummy as the park looks from the inside, it's even more dull from the outside. And there's really nothing happening around it. It's like in the middle of nowhere. The proposal including shops and the like surrounding the new downtown stadium definitely sounds enticing. But it may take more than that to get the fans to come.

Fred McGriff elected to the Hall of Fame. Seemed like this ballot was almost specifically designed to get him in. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but what an odd ballot.

Mets are signing Verlander. I am not mad about this, but I wonder if they'd be better off at this point with a Rodon/Bassitt combo than the Verlander/Taillon combo they seem headed towards.

And speaking of Taillon, of whom I thought was a decent fit for the back end of the Yankees' rotation, Syndergaard appears to be among the replacements. With that, the Yankees are thinking, "gee, I wonder if we can get Mets fans to hate us even more than they already do".

 

So I guess will see Kate and Justin gave the bird to Mets fans at some point next year since she forgot Mets fans do boo their own including Javier Baez last year:

Anyway, Trea Turner to Philly for 11 years/$300M.

This news would break as I get home from grocery shopping, with a Philly sandwich from Subway.

 

@A Chorus of Disapproval They now have two players with contracts over $300 million. Meanwhile the Cubs have Marcus Stroman as their highest paid player and he almost certainly going to get out of the deal after this season with his players option. But hey they are "kicking the tires" on Shelby who is by far the worst out of the big shortstop options this offseason and looking at very mediocre starting pitching help.

Also, Cashman is now extended thru 2026. Assuming he fulfills that, it means Brian will be the Yankees GM for almost 30 years. In modern day sports that is basically unheard of.

 

And he's laughing over GS's grave for sure; because Lord knows Cashman would have been gone at least a decade ago if George were still in charge.

Aaron Judge being in Florida amidst reports he's making a decision this week gives me the vibe that he's just having the time of his life enjoying the Florida weather and hospitality while listening to teams try to outbid each other with outrageously expensive deals. Here's hoping the Yankees don't F this up
