So if this doesn't make a billion dollars on opening day everyone will say it's a failure like when they decided to release Solo two weeks after Deadpool 2 at the end of a month when everyone was already broke and had already spent movie money that month.

Lol. You know the those people will call Disney Star Wars a failure either way how much money it makes. Spielbergs film is supposed to be a UFO themed story. Its not like he is coming back for Jurassic Park. I also have doubts about that Avengers film meeting that release date. In general, the Mando film has only one hurdle to overcome - and that is itself. Will it be interesting enough of a story to bring audience back to cinema for Star Wars.

I think its worth not expecting a billion for this movie. I certainly could, but we really don't know where Star Wars stands with the audience. And I don't mean the ST, but more with the TV Shows taking the Star Wars spotlight for the last few years.

But I think its easy to look at films and say oh it only made 100 mil profit... well that's not much at all. When really, if a studio makes £50 mil profitoff a movie they will be over joyed and plan another 10 movies.

This is a relatively modestly budgeted film and it should have modest box office profit expectations. This should be more of a moral victory than a monetary one, a way to boost confidence in the IP and set the tone and open the door for the future SW films to come. It shouldn't be expected to be a billion-maker, but it should be a "game changer" in terms of how people see SW. At least, IMO, idk what Disney is expecting.

I don't know if i believe The Mandalorian and Grogu can be a game changer. You can watch 3 seasons of that concept on Disney+ for it to feel in some way fresh.

I do think this was potentially series 4 just turned into a movie, but with added elements (probably action based) to make it feel more grand now that its a film. I wouldn't be shocked if the reviews end up calling it an extended episode of the show. Course I could be wrong about that but I feel like I seen jon favreau do his thing with Star Wars several times already.

I'm expecting $8 billion for this movie and will declare the end of Star Wars if it doesn't happen.

Rest in peace James Earl Jones. Must be one of the biggest box office stars of alltime, when you consider all Star Wars movies and The Lion King. Not bad for a guy that used to stutter when he was a child.

400 … must be brilliant to go over that. Weak foreign, stronger domestic. But probably D+ subscription wave, which might be the corporate strategy behind this

Regarding that nugget, it never made sense to me that Lucasfilm was making a movie in addition to a season 4. Replacing season 4 with a movie outright felt way more logical, especially given Disney's shift away from extremely expensive streaming series (which is also a trend that basically every studio seems to be pursuing after realizing that streamers with extraordinarily expensive original content is an abysmal business model).

Unless the author is merely extrapolating, which is entirely possible, this also suggests that Taika Waititi is not working on his announced film, which is positively shocking. I would caution however that this really just feels like a rundown of known or assumed information (and there's a tidbit or two in this article that I would argue is either inaccurate or creatively presented), and not an analysis with any new insights, so that might just be a (safe) guess on the part of the author.

I see nothing in that article that doesn't suggest speculation rather than official. Unless im missing something as i didn't read the whole article.

Not necessary a bad thing. People had issues with how Din became a supporting cast in his own show at times. Now we can return the focus to the father/adopted son dynamic in the center of the show.

It also explains the quick turnaround time for the script of the film. In early 2023 Favreau had said the scripts for S4 were completed. TM&G was announced In January '24 and shooting began in what? August or September? I doubt he wrote a script from scratch and finished it in about 6 or 7 months...this film is a repurposed S4.

I'm really wondering about this. The best time to release this film was 2 years ago; instead of doing an S3 or including them in TBoBF. I have a feeling that the ship may have sailed on this. But I guess we'll see how much draw Grogu still has as I'm sure the marketing will be focused around him. And from everything I've read the budget is a relatively low $120 million so it's not like they have to bank on this making a billion to be a success.

Although I'm very curious about this film and it could have huge implications or connections to other parts of the GFFA they seem to be into exploring right now-which excites me, I really have this nagging feeling that it's just going to FEEL like a "Mandalorian episode in theaters," a la Star Trek: Insurrection (meaning, basically a glorified 2 hour episode, with slightly better special effects). Especially so, if they are not planning on a very big budget for this film.

Gincarlo who plays Moff Gideon has mentioned that we get a Mandalorian Trilogy and have avenger style Star Wars movies from Jon Favearu and Dave Filoni.

Giancarlo Esposito also claimed he would have a big role in seasons 3 and 4, yet Gideon died in season 3 after a relatively small role in just two episodes. I'd take his words with a grain of salt. ;)

He's one of those actors who just talks IMO. I bit like Sam Jackson always talking about a Mace Windu series and whatnot.
