So The Mandalorian season 4 might be a movie instead. Discuss it here and if this turns out to be false I’ll ban Fredrik until the Sequel Sequel Trilogy Part II: The Good One is released.

I watched the segment where Jeff was talking about the rumors he’d heard, and the way he explained, it sounded to me like he might actually be talking about the previously announced Filoni movie. He isn’t a Star Wars fan and doesn’t follow it closely so he didn’t mention “Heir to the Empire” or any Rebels/Ahsoka material. What he did say was that it looks like this branch of the Star Wars storyline will probably be taken to the big screen, whether that means continuing the storylines or finishing them their.

Idk, the way he described it and knowing what we as fans know about how the post-ROTJ shows are connected, I think it’s the same Filoni movie.

The original scoop from a few months ago from he who must not be named said that this Mando s4 movie would be IN ADDITION to the Thrawn movie that was already announced, and act as a precursor to it. They are not one and the same (unless the plan has changed yet again, idk).

Huh, so this was actually reported on previously? I had no idea, guess I need to be keeping up hwmnbn. Well, I guess this would explain Dave’s promotion, if he’s going to be cranking out multiple movies in the post-ROTJ era.

*sigh* I just want something new. Not another Mando/Jedi n Co vs Imperials

It's sad the closet thing we are currently getting to a new era for Star wars live action wise is the upcoming The Acolyte, which I think is only set 100 years before TPM. Even a Rey movie post IX could be refreshing, as long as its not a repeat of the OT style.

Then there is the potential of Dawn of the Jedi, and the Old Republics eras which's lasted thousands of years. Also the Gap between its end (1032BBY) and the High Republic era (began aprox 500BBY). The High Republic itself lasting for centuries.

Point being Star Wars has so many opportunities in giving us a movie that is quite different then what we have seen before, but if its true they want to make a Mando movie first, then its further evidence that lucasfilm under Disney is lacking creativity.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Don't get me wrong, a Mandalorian movie would be amazing, but I don’t like the implications of both Mando and Lando being turned into movies. There have been signs for a while now that Disney is abandoning the streaming ship, with no new shows (post the already shot Acolyte and Skeleton Crew) on the horizon, and this, if it's true, seems to confirm that.

But I like SW TV, and want more of it.

People may be over anxious about this. It could simply just be that they are releasing it via theaters simultaneously with D+ release to capture those who don't have D+. I don't think it will be strictly a movie per se. Perhaps just the finale will be released in theaters. Kind of like a preview or something.

I generally feel that going from film to TV ( like Rogue One to Andor) works better than TV ( streaming platform) to theatrical released film. I fear that the Filoni film could struggle if they dont get the build up right @jedijax That idea about releasing it simultanously in theatres and on Disney + ( or like the way Apple releases Napoleon and the Scorsese film), i am just not sure that will work with a blockbuster type of film like this. Or do i misunderstand you….that you talk about the prospect of a film that will replace Mando season 4, and work as a preview to the big Filoni film? Either way, releasing feature films in the theatre first and then having it on Disney + 2 months after, has proven to be bad business for the Pixar and animated films. Hmm.

Ok, a bit confusing all of this. But there is always a risk with releasing movies in the theatre, that the interest is not there. Much lower risk having a film strictly on a streaming platform in general.

Didn't they put the Anakin episode of Ahsoka in theaters for a short time?

Um, there is a planned Dawn of the Jedi live action movie. With a director, James Mangold, already attached.

I’m undecided about how I feel about it, but that is definitely the trend. Both in terms of what they seem to be doing and also in what Iger has said, they seem to be moving away from creating new content solely for streaming, and towards more movies for theatrical release again. One concern is that they oversaturate theaters with things that would have been a better fit for a series. Also, if Andor season 2 doesn’t get released, I say we riot. :p But don’t want to get this thread off-topic.

Wait. Has there recently been a hint that Andor S2 is on the shelf? I'm not generally a rioter, but for that, I'll riot.

No, and I don’t want to start a rumor. :p Just a general observation about the apparent trend away from D+ series.

My friend....uh, Mr. Wodahs Repus...who comes from some place far away (yes that'll do)....stated that Andor season 2 is cancelled and Neil Breen is directing all future Star Wars projects.

I will say outright that, if true, this is an absolutely terrible idea. TV series typically don’t translate well to movies for a bunch of reasons; you create a situation where the general audience essentially has to do homework to understand the story; you drastically reduce the time you have to tell the story; and you cheapen the impact of Dave Filoni’s movie getting to be the film that explores this time period.

Disney is a parks and merchandising company first and foremost. They have access to market research that probably shows them that the Mandoverse characters outsell the ones from the sequel trilogy. The next movie, whatever it ends up being, has to work, not many chances are going to be taken.

Thank you. We do try to make it a great forum. And there will be more threads added to grow it. Probably on the topic of how all the shows are cancelled. But we'll grow.

I think season 3 of Mando really works as an ending for the show so I’m all right if they’ve decided to leave it there. A movie doesn’t have to be a direct continuation of the show like Serenity was for Firefly. It can be it’s own thing entirely which I hope it is if this is true. However, if it means no more SW TV then I’m not okay with that. Although I suspect the TV realm will continue. Probably with less shows than before. One main live action show and one main animated show to go along with a new film every year would work.

So this would be, what . . . the *sixth* Star Wars movie currently in development? I’m not even counting the Rian “trilogy” either [face_thinking]

I’m apparently going against the grain here, but I actually think this idea has less risk than the Filoni film. Season 3 essentially concluded the current story, and they could easily make this so very little ‘homework’ is needed. I’d be fine with season 3 being the end of the whole thing, but as far ideas go this could work. Not needed, but it’s not the worst idea.

They'll have to put more action into it like the season finales. They can't have a movie with 3/4 of it with people walking toward each other slowly.
