Is that you, Ken Napzok :p he talks about wanting Meeebur Gascon back in a gritty Star Wars like Andor to take the silly side to the serious

Ken’s gonna have a real hard time if this film or Filoni’s introduces anymore EU characters and or elements.

I like the guy, but I love that he’s had to eat crow over the last year or so when it comes to the EU in modern SW.

And on that note, I hope Pellaeon is in this movie.

If true, this plot is about what I expected, and I have no problems with it. I fully expected this movie to be a return to what made the first couple of seasons great: a space Western about a Mandalorian bounty hunter going off on relatively low stakes missions. You could take this premise and turn it into a fantastic movie. It's all about the execution.

What matters for me is character. The Mandalorian and Grogu are a very marketable pair, but that shouldn't hold them back from character progression. Grogu eventually needs to grow up, even if that means he stops being "baby Yoda". Din Djarin needs to come to terms with the fact that he was raised by a cult, even if that means he stops wearing his helmet all the time and saying "This is the way.™" S3 spun its wheels on this, so I hope the movie gets us back on track. Fortunately, there's nothing in the leaks that says it won't.

I’m not really against or for the rumor regardless, but I am torn over what I felt was the intent of Season 3’s story and what that would imply for the movies.

There’s still some question and debate over whether Season 2, my favorite Star Wars TV show season by far, had pretty good character progression, lore exploration, and a decent season arc with Gideon because that was the intended main appeal and “soul” of the show during that time… or whether it having character progression, lore exploration, and a decent character arc was all incidental to Favreau and Filoni just having better “low stakes missions” ideas for the time. Season 2 *was* a “simple” plot, but like Season 1’s opening, was tight, lean, but substantial where the simplicity was “healthy.”

Season 3 was immensely disappointing to me both on an individual episode level and on what season story it had - The Mines of Mandalorian was a diamond in a very rough collection of adventures that either took too long, ran too short, or sidestepped deliciously complex bits of lore for a painfully shallow idea of “simple” storytelling that ran towards being “unhealthy” - in particular with how Favreau ignored the darker, nastier aspects of the Mandalorians and wasted the Darksaber entirely.

Like… the show have both excelled at “simple” stories that “featured” guest characters over Din and a Grogu (The Believer) and more complex stories that focused on Din, Grogu, and the lore (The Rescue), but also flailed limply at “simple” stories about Din and a monster of the week (the Season 3 Dragon episode) or more complex stories with a larger cast than Din and Grogu (Season 3’s two-part finale.)

Simple *can* be good, but isn’t a guarantee of a good narrative anymore than complications are - complexity can be found in both, but also also completely ignored in either.

And there’s still a part of my lore-loving self that seriously worries about how Favreau dumped the Darksaber story entirely when that *was* the epitome of both a solid and simple “Saturday TV show” premise (a “There can be only one!” challenge-of-the-week type of show or movie like Highlander), and a solid and complicated “Epic Movie Series” premise (a “Let us examine this incredibly flawed culture and naive protagonist closely, with spiritual and philosophical challenges as well as physical ones” tyke of show or movie like Avatar the Last Airbender or the PT and OT.)

…So I’m still just kind of waiting for more stuff. Whether there’s a “rescue the hostage” story or a “Deal with politics and spiritual issues” story doesn’t actually tell us anything about the quality of the movie’s premise - because the show both succeeded and failed at both.

Yeah, a movie doesn’t have to be about the imminent destruction of the universe in order to be good.

I feel like you're dropping some very sly hints about the movie. I'm getting the impression the simple plot involves Mando and Grogu (an alien), as they make their way through the galaxy, stealing speeder bikes (bicycle thieves), which feature repulsorlifts that counter the effects of gravity.
Two more ingredients I would be inclined to add.... a dash of Repo Man and a pinch of Kiss Me Deadly (white pepper and black pepper).

Good thing it's not a TV movie then.

We don't know anything about it, yet everyone and their grandma seem convinced that the film is clearly going to be [too small for the big screen] [a condensed version of a full season and therefore too bloated for the big screen] [a complete stand alone adventure with too little connective tissue to the rest of SW] [relying too much on the audience having seen the TV show] [just a stepping stone towards Filoni's movie] [a complete 1:1 remake of the classic 2008 theatrical TCW release somehow] [just Kathleen Kennedy pointing and laughing at the camera for 136 minutes. Maybe she'll have hooves and a pitchfork].

Makes sense. Because the new Lucasfilm model is to follow the example set by Solo.

    Wait…

It really needs to end with KK pointing at the viewer and announcing the virus watching the film has downloaded just as the television dies, all electronics in the home are corrupted and all personal data is stripmined and uploaded to the dark web.

There is nothing wrong with a safe movie. If you want this to be the big return to theaters movie thats gives you all those star wars nostalgic thrills that bring Star Wars back to where it belongs!... I dunno if it will be this film. But it could still be a good safe movie.

well, if you go back to the initial premise of The Mandalorian, it could also be described as safe or even boring, and it turned out pretty great

also having another 'death star' or 'starkiller' or whatever planet wide destroying event could in itself be considered safe, it's been done before and it worked let's do it again

at this point it's a risk to do a smaller scale event

That's a good point. If given the choice between "Din and Grogu escort Frog Lady on another mission to deliver her eggs" OR "Rebel Alliance / Resistance / ____ fighters must destroy a planet destroying superweapon before it destroys them" story, I guess I would choose Mando and Grogu. But barely.
