I really need someone to walk me through how an enormous, "buff" gladiator who wields vibroblades and is covered with scars from battles he has won needs rescuing because a bounty hunter is bothering him.

Legends had Beldorian the Hutt as an active and strong, more snake-like Hutt, though the best drawing LFL ever released of him also showed the artists doing a good job of remembering he's supposed to be old as well, giving him a nice sort of "lean old man" for a Hutt.

...I'm still waiting for more stuff about Din and Grogu, though; again, them having a story is more important to me than how cool of an adventure-of-the-week this could be - because *any* story in Star wars is going to have an adventure of the week as the low end of its requirements.

Maybe The New Republic wants to have Rotta as their puppet leader in the criminal Underworld and rescue Rotta from certain death

I just have a strong feeling that it won’t be as metal or as wild as a Moebius character. My guess is that it’ll be less edgy than that, and more cartoonish. And I fear for how the CGI will look. But I’ll keep my mind open about it.
Good thing I didn’t say there should be no difference, then. My point was that the look of the species was built around a large, slothful, gangster “type” to serve the story Lucas was telling. And that it’ll be hard to twist it out of that lane without looking forced. And that having a freer hand with another species might be a better idea. My perspective is a little more complicated than “all hutts must be fat gangsters!” My point was that it’s going to be hard to twist that design out of its story origins, and into something that’s both different and cool-looking. But if Doug Chiang is tasked with it, I’ll probably do a 180 job on it.

I would commit heinous crimes for Rotta to be done with puppeteering and animatronics, for Diego Luna's sake if no one else's.

Amen. I don’t think they’ve been able to successfully capture the hutts with CGI yet. They just don’t quite…gel.

I hate to be that guy, but I suspect, given that the two Twin Hutts are rumoured to play a role, that they’ll be reusing those CGI models, and they’ll want to keep things consistent.

Regardless of how fit and buff a Hutt might be, there is the undeniable fact that biologically they must have a legless slug-type body. And that just doesn't sound like it would work visually, especially the idea of seeing them somehow sliding around effortlessly while fighting in a gladiator arena.

I think they have decided the hutts should be CGI now. TBOB and Skeleton Crew have CGI hutts. Which is just probably easier at this point.

Also Jabba in TPM, and in his scenes that were added in ANH, when he's talking to Solo outside the Falcon.

Consistent Hutts? That would be inconsistent with all we've seen of them so far.

Grakkus the Hutt looked pretty great in the comics. I'm sure a hundred million dollar movie can make it work.

I'd never heard of him before, so I looked him up. From his wookieepedia page: "Aside from his much more muscular frame, he had a set of cybernetic legs to move in a more agile fashion." So, to my earlier point... that's cheating. :p

    Fair enough.

Ironically it was the first thing about the film that sounded interesting to me.

Legends had similar info too. Beside Beladon as mentioned above, there were the shellhuts, and general mentions that the hutts used to be warriors before deciding to be gangsters after nearly going extinct in a civil war, with descriptions about how hutts being fat and lazy was a choice that was part of their new philosophy of wealth above all.

The bounty hunter in question, if accurate, was one of the best around, and
has gone up against sith lords and walked away alive.

I am curious how that is going to work visually.

Like, I could see it in a cartoon or comic, but live action is trickier.

Still, whatever else one has to say about Mando season 3, the effects were impressive, and as a movie they presumably have a larger budget to work with, so it might work somehow.

....also gorewise. A vibrating sword sounds...messy.

I think Mech Enhanced Hutt would look and feel a bit like General Grevious. has speedy robo exoskeleton moves but can see that there's fleshy bits too

Thank you. I didn’t think it was a controversial point.

I’ll reserve judgment though. I’m sure the geniuses at Lucasfilm/ ILM could make it work. I just think there are…better ideas. Shrug.

ETA: I do hope they don’t go with the mechanical insect legs they gave Grakkus and co, which is just too convoluted and messy a design. I’d rather see them sliding around Harryhausen-Medusa style than that.
