Better be during or after S1, I don't need Mandalorian flashback stories, I needs Baby Yoda in there dangit! Well ok I would take a flashback story but really now get with the Baby Yoda!

This is an original novel but there's a junior adaptation of... the first season? Novel covering first season from a different angle other than straight adaptation? [face_thinking]

Well nice, I was beginning to worry The Mandalorian was gonna be an exclusively TV thing, so nice to see it branching out into different mediums.

Fantastic news, can't wait to read this.

Would love it to be set between S1 and S2 so if it's coming out in Dec this could support this theory.

It being before season 1 or after season 1 seem equally likely at this point.

If Rebels is any indicator, it'll link to something in S2.

"A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one."
After delays, it looked like we were only getting 3 novels this year (not counting YA novels). I'm glad we're getting this before the year is over. It makes sense that it's going to tell a new story. Cramming all episodes of Season 1 into one novel wouldn't do The Mandalorian justice.

I just hope the novel is actually about the Mandalorian (ideally either a prequel or a post season one, pre season two story) rather than just Greef Karga: A Star Wars Story (with cameos by Baby Yoda)

I would definitely read a Greef novel.
My guess for this would be something about Mando's time with Ran's crew, but who knows?

My guess would be a mostly stand-alone linking story between S1 and S2, since both will be out by then.

That's a good shout actually, wouldn't mind reading that, although I think they'll be keen to steer into Baby Yoda stories, even though I don't think the Baby Yoda gimmick would translate as well on the page.

Baby Yoda could work in prose. "The Child blinked once then slowly turned their head and hit the button again."

I imagine Baby Yoda will be used primarily in the inevitable young reader adaptions/ IDW comics.

Oh so sneaky, before this was announced, Shadow Fall came out and had an updated timeline at the beginning which includes The Mandalorian tv show, and they only do that when there's a book that ties directly into that series. C'mon people, we had a whole week to figure this was coming! :p

We've lost our edge, clearly. Have to start the Hunger Games up again.

    ****!

I got an email from Amazon saying the release date was changed a day ago and was confused by it. Now? Now it makes an irritating sense. Bollocks.

I get it, I do, I get why it has likely happened, but this was one I was really looking forward to and thought it might even work in combination with the show. Guess that won't be the case.
