The Movie & Television Character Draft 3: Nothin' or Double - congrats, EF

For my first pick, I choose:

Count Dracula (aka Drake) - Blade series

For my second pic, I choose:

Michael Myers - Halloween

 

The fact that we have, at the moment, a 7/5 ratio of villains to heroes makes me:

Meh, that might wind up a grumpy 6/6. I was expecting people to stop going villain at one point.

How viable is Illyria for a hero team? I'm no Buffy fan, but my understanding was that she was far more powerful as an evil character.

 

She is neither good or evil, she is just Illyria. She basically does what she wants. Since I think the version we have decided to use is the bit of the weakened version, or else no one would use lose to her, then she can work just as good as evil as she would bad. And if end up drafting Spike or Angel she would work fine with them.

 

Of course, how badly distorted is the ratio? 7/5 seems worrisome, but I figure if BaSSiL were that concerned, he'd turn good himself. Looking at the last draft, good and evil teams were pretty evenly divided, and a glance at the end-of-season standings reveals that the evil teams actually did fairly well: four of the top six teams were evil.

 

I am that concerned. But I drafted an evil amoral ***** version of a character so I really don't have that much of a choice. And I was first pick, so it really isn't my place but to draft who I think is the single most powerful pick. Usually it's a hero, but here the top five are Villain Villain Hero Villain Hero. So, yeah. It really is the responsibility of the other GMs to look at flow and decide, if they want to win, that they may have to make a team of heroes instead of the oversaturated villain pool.

 

Since when have we used the weakened Illyria? You mean the one that got beaten to a pulp by Hamilton? Nope, it's peak Illyria. But that definitely doesn't mean that she wouldn't lose to anyone, although she is quite good.

And to answer the Sylar questions from before:

1. Future Sylar (or future anyone for that matter) feats are not eligible.

2. I wouldn't say he would get an opponent's ability simply from killing them, because we don't actually know how he steals other powers. All we know is that it appears to involve the brain somehow, and he might actually eat the brain. So in a team battle setting, or a trump vs Sylar setting, he isn't going to be gaining new abilities after every kill, because (IMO) we have to assume that it isn't an instantaneous thing. Killing teammates and stealing their powers during the 24 hours before a team battle is another story, although the powers would have to be genetic.

Well, if BaSSiL can't go good with Willow, I guess I'll probably end up playing a good team.

 

THing is, I would, but for her to be worth a flip as a first round pick, shoot, a first pick overall, I really need to have Dark Willow.

 

Then as long as Illyria doesn't lose anything from being on a good team, then whatever.

The concept of a team full of Power Rangers frightens me enough that I'm not ready to dedicate myself to a good team yet, but the concept of 7-5 evil doesn't make me any more comfortable.

So I'll grab another ambiguously good/evil pick with Lestat.

 

Lestat is a good one IMHO, I picked him in the second draft and the only issue I faced was not having enough time to dedicate towards getting him respect.

Good pick, especially for the kind of team you seem to be aiming to build.

Then why didn't you pick him? It would've been a quantum leap over the Michael Myers pick, that's fer durn tootin'.

And are you talking about Sylar, like, stealing powers from characters he might defeat here in the draft and then... using them in a later match against someone else? If so, uh, that's... uh, not the way these drafts work. Never has been, never will be.

So you think he just slices the brain open, and poof, he gains the new power? I mean, sure it's possible, but at this point anything is, because like I said before, we just don't know. From what we have seen though, I think it's fairly unlikely that he doesn't actually have to do anything with the brain to get the new abilities. Everything we have seen kind of points towards him taking at least a little while to do... whatever it is that he does. So in the middle of a team battle setting, he most certainly won't have the time to stop and perform rituals with his victims' brains, unless everyone on the other team is already dead. And then, what would be the point?

Well I have no choice to go with Sylar here. A lot people forget what his real power is, knowing how things work, as he describes it instantly. That is what made him a good watch smith etc. That power would come in handy when fighting mechanical things, as would his ability to melt things.
