The Mythology Draft II: coming soon to a pantheon near you (Matchups underway)

I'm still just bummed I didn't get numbers in and as a result look right there: Unprepped Odysseus. What are Oni? Big creatures with clubs? Odysseus has beaten many a cyclops before...

Demons which range wildly in appearance and power. It is ridiculous to simply have "Oni" on the list.

Anyway, I picked Genji for personal kicks, I doubt he can beat much of anybody.

Just for clarification, I have the Oni that's a demon and able to use magic and conjur stuff and be generally unstoppable, not the big guy with a club. Do I have to like, go to a public library and verify the myth? Should I see my local psychic? I have a shovel I could use to go look for ancient relics.

 

Oni VS Odysseus

Odysseus has beaten a cyclops before, yes, but certainly not in a straight-up fight like this one. While quite skilled and strong, I'm still not confident that he could take one in battle with no preparation and no special tools to aid him.

Talos VS Brynhildr (Prepared)

This one is actually more difficult than it looks. Talos has a great offense, but his defense is nothing short of terrible, and Brynhildr does know his weakness from the prep. If she can actually get close enough to hit his nail, she can take it pretty easily, but I'm not sure if she'll be able to manage it. He's still incredibly strong and fast, after all. If there's something showing valkyries with enough speed and endurance to make it close enough to hit the nail, I'll gladly reverse my vote, but I'm going to have to go with the man of bronze, for now.

Hikaru Genji aligned with Odin VS Cycnus aligned with Ares

Yeah, I'm not seeing Genji winning this.

Guan Yu (prepped) VS Étaín

Simple enough match. Étaín...is no fighter, from what I can see.

 

I'll take the win, but why does it seem like the original demon/god form of the Oni is being ignored in favor of the later ogre form? I've now apparently drafted a small snake and an ogre. These have to be the worst picks I've ever made in my life. Was it temporary insanity?

 

bryhilder was the equal of sigurd, and that's why she ended up marrying him. she actually married him because he was HER equal, not the other way around. she's being severely underrated and was last draft as well. she is basically a demi-god who is trained as a warrior. she was not just a valkyrie, but a shield maiden, which means she was a highly trained warrior. somehow... this keeps getting overlooked badly.

 

I'd hesitate to give the match to Sigurd, too.

 

fair enough, i'm just pointing out how horribly she's been underrated so far.

 

Would our other judges like to weigh in with their opinions on the matches?

 

I have noticed in this draft, that it seems the bigger and more monstrous something is, the more likely it is too win.

 

Even when the opponent the big monstrous thing is facing is prepared for them, a better fighter and smarter? Yeah I noticed too.

 

Especially considering how often big monsterous things get beaten in mythology, it is a wonder how the opposite happens in this draft so frequently.

 

Speaking of mythology...kinda of...anyone see the new 3D ADVENTURE MOVIE Clash of the Titans yet?

 

No, but I do want to. I remember the classic being cool, so I will probably see it. I hear it was originally made for 2d, so I won't bother watching the 3d as I have heard it isn't as good as it could have been and was only done to get on the 3d bandwagon.

 

Oni VS Odysseus

I don't know, I think Odysseus is still crafty enough to trick a cyclops, even in full-on battle - though it won't be easy/

Talos VS Brynhildr (Prepared)

I think a prepped Brynhildr can take him - the prep gives her the edge she needs.

I agree again - as far as I can tell, Étaín isn't a fighter.

I'd like it noted I remembered to wander in without Chim this time. Assuming I haven't been dis-judged for my lengthy absences:

While Odysseus could take it with prep, I don't see him beating the Oni without it. (well, prep or an advantageous location, which we don't do in this draft.)

Brynhildr's got what it takes to make me pretty confident she could win. Not by a large margin, but I think she'd get it done.
