This Clone Wars Mace Windu outfit is still boggling my mind. It's really cool, but that neck thing is a complete mystery...

...As is whether or not it'd actually look GOOD on anything but a bad@$$ cartoon Jedi Master.

Well I have a chance to buy a new rocket, well I think the guy hasn't given me a price yet. But I think I will buy it. The people at TDH say that it is a good rocket and is very lite. But he doesn't know how well it will work with my pack. But it is worth a try if it is round. :D

Yeah, but if it's too big or too small, it won't work well with your pack. [face_plain]

I'm not sure what to do. I could try to make my own. Buy one or use the one I have. But I really wan't it to look as best as possible. But I do have time to get it done.

I am planning on buying a new helmet in September. This summer I will start making my armor. Then by October I will have my soft stuff started. Then have all of my soft stuff done by December. Then hopefully have it all finished by next Feburary.

I know this seems like a long time. But I have very limeted funds. I wish I didn't, but I will have a cool costume for C3. I hope [face_plain]

I am getting frustrated with TDH. No one seems to want to help. I guess I will try to make my own rocket or use the one that I have. I mean how bad could it look when it is painted.

Well I started my own rocket this evening. I am doing it out of poster board, then after it is done then I will paper machet it or something. Then it will be lite. I am going to keep looking to buy one. Then if none of the above works, then I will just use the one that I have. I think if in the end I use the one I have, you won't be able to tell to much when it is painted and weathered. At least I think,

or maybe it is more like I hope. But I am praying to god that I can make a nice looking round one. It is not that I am trying to be a perfectionist or anything I just want a good looking costume. I mean I have wanted to make a Fett costume since I was 15. Ever since I got into Star Wars. Is it to much to as for a round rocket. I mean I payed over $300 for that thing and I get an oval rocket.

COME ON!!!!!!!!!, I talked to the guy from Ebay, or at least he responded to my email that I sent him. He said when he bought the pack over two years ago that the rocket was oval. I talked to the guy that made it and he said that it was supposed to be oval. But really what moron would think that the rocket was supposed to be oval.

How would it fly throught the air?

But any way, then the guy from Ebay said that he lost the makers info, and even if he still had it he would not of given it to me. He said that selling Star Wars props is a risky buisness and he would not want the guy to get introuble. But he should, I mean he made an oval rocket. Oval, not round, how lazy do you have to be. Put all that detail into it and then you make it oval.

Well any way, I was thinking about giving the guy a bad rating, first because, he took 8 days to get me shipping cost. Then second the rocket is oval. I mean if he would have posted that in the auction, I would not have bought the pack. But he has not given me a rating, and I think if I give him a bad one, he will give me a bad on to be a jerk.

But what are you going to do. Man this rocket thing gets me upset. I try not to get upset over it, but it just starts to creep under my skin.

Well there you have my rant.

    Anyway onto a different costume.

Well at the Con I got my Jedi costume from Kim, which kicked major you know what. Anyway, I was thinking about doing a Dark Jedi. Now I was thinking about buying contacts, what color should I get? I am also going to use two light sabers. The short one that I have and then a double bladed one that Jeff is going to make for me. No all I need is a pair of boots and a belt. Would it be wierd to have a blaster with the costume.

Because I have a Han Solo replica blaster just sitting around and I wan't to do something with it. It isnt a master replicas or anyting but it is still cool and looks realistic.

Ummmm, what else can I think about,

well it is past my bed time,

1:20 a.m. Man I haven't been up this late in months. I am like the old man that goes to bed at 10.

    So good night everyone,

(P.S. if anyone has any ideas for a rocket, or want's to help please let me know, I will toss and turn all night and every night in my sleep until I get it figured out. I need to sleep, I am going to go crazy, I mean really crazy)

(P.P.S. man this post is going on way to long, but good night, I will see you all in the morning)

    (P.P.P.S. ummmmm....................... I forgot)

(P.P.P.P.S. look at the time it is 1:24)

(P.P.P.P.P.S. Now I really need to go to sleep)

    (P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Good Night)

    (P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Just Kidding)

    (P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S Now I mean it)

(P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S. My wife is going to be mad at me for being up so late)

(P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Now I really mean it)

    GOOD NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to sleep in tomarrow.

    :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

BF, have you tried posting on the RPF boards?

    Replica Prop Forums

Check the Junkyard for stuff for sale. Or, check out some of the various Fett-threads for topics relating to yours.

Unfortunately, I'm just not that familiar w/Fett-ware to be of much assistance.

I would say this though, I think you might be happier with an ovicular rocket, as opposed to a papier mache one. But, that's just my $0.02.

I would explore some other options for building/molding a new rocket. After examining your pics, and from what I recall after having seen it first hand at the Con, I think it would be pretty straightforward to build each "section" individually, and then attach them.

I would suggest sintra, modeling clay, or some such other materials.

Also, I saw your posts on TDH, and I actually thought the guys over there were giving you a pretty fair shake. Some of their suggestions had definite merit. Have you considered sanding down your current rocket, so as to make it round? It wouldn't be necessarily easy or fun, but might be the most practical.

Ultimately, you have be not only comfortable wearing it, but also pleased & proud of the results. If you're gonna be worried about what all the other geeks think when you're in costume, then that is going to drain any enjoyment from it for you. I've experienced this myself with my Vader, since there's still a few things that I need to clean up on him, and they seem to distract me when ever I'm in costume, which really takes away from any satisfaction.

Bottom line, try not to get frustrated. If something doesn't work out quite right, just roll with it, and see how clever & creative you can be to overcome the setback. My Jaffa costume only turned out to be about 50% of what I originally visualized it as, and I encountered some potentially serious snags along the way. And, even if I still don't think that the costume is 100%, I've still got the personal satisfaction that I got it to where it is today.

If it's not fun, it's not worth it...

Thanks for the info SS. Well for now I am going to try the Poster Board one, for lack of resources at the moment. An I guess not all the people at TDH were not helping me. I got a couple of PM from people at TDH trying to help me out.

I guess I over reacted a little. But sometimes I tend to become a perfectionist about my Star Wars stuff. It gets annoying.

Also it is hard to do a costume, at least for me. Like I have said in the past, I have no skills in this field, and no experience. I know in the end I will be finished with it and hopefully be happy.

It is hard to make a prop that looks great. When you can usally buy one. I know it will mean more to me in the end if I make it. That is why I wan't to try, but if I make it, I don't want it to look like %@$#. Thay is why I tend to buy stuff instead of making it.

Thanks once more for the info SS.

I think most of us started without having any particular "prop" skillz. Just one day you start feeling a little adventurous and pick up clay/cloth/sewing machine/lathe/welding torch and start seeing what you can do with it. It just takes a little time and devotion, really.

    VONG STUFF!

SC, oh dear great leader, last night I took it upon myself to find some pics of the Vong. I picked up "The New Jedi Order Sourcebook" that's out for the Star Wars RPG (fun, but I've only had a chance to play once. I miss my gaming days...*sigh*)

The sourcebook is LOADED with information about the Vong, from their bioengineering to religious practices, their weapons, ships, stats and how they compare to humans, and they've taken nearly every single tidbit about the Vong out of the books and distilled it into a single book. Lots of neat info.

Playing with the domain I bought awhile back to host them...

The armor itself could easily be done with wet-formed leather. By all means, it would NOT be cheap. I'm thinking around $200 worth of saddle leather might be enough. This is also something I think we could get the majority of it done for a few people if we were a little insane for a weekend and had an armor party.

I wish I had taken some close ups of Doc's orcs, cuz they had some of the forms down, and their armor was mostly leather, even if it looked like rusty metal in some spots.

Next, the faces -- after having done Two-Face, they would be fairly easy to do. Just to make sure the masks fit well, you'd at least need a rough cast of your face -- a life cast of your head would be ideal, though.

Next, I think if anyone were to really be considering doing a Vong in full body armor, I think you could have the armor done in time for the Renfest, and then just draw the tattoos on yourself with an eyeliner pencil. I wouldn't consider going with all yer little prosthetics glued on -- you'd get too sweaty and they'd fall off right away.

That, and you'd scare the kiddies.

And the Renfest people would think you were (edit: some speeling eroors) an armored leper. [face_laugh] [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

Really, though, in all my madness, I'd be up for trying to do a few Vong for the Renfest -- the armor at least. We'd have sort of an Orkie/Marauder look and feel to us, and it'd be a good chance to try out the armor and have almost a whole year to make improvements to it.

But after having spent some of my half-awake time laying in bed last night (I went to bed at like, midnight last night...WOW!), and then some time this morning, I think a Vong costume would be fairly friendly to wear. Better than a trooper, because the leather would flex, and if done right, you'd only have minimal stuff glued to your face.

As for the Vong high priestess -- after reading some of this book, there are MANY Vong priests/priestesses within the Vong empire -- the government gets most of its power from having the best shapers and religious leaders so it can keep its zealots in line. So, as long as the costume had a scaled look, and the makeups was similar, most Vongs would otherwise be a free for all and you could get as crazy as you wanted.

The book even mentions about how if a Vong were to lose a leg in combat, rather than graft on a new one, they'd opt for an improvement and go with a reptile leg with talons.

    Weeeeeeeeeiiiiiiird.

Thanks for the research, I'm getting excited. I think it will be a cool costume for CIII.

TK, I don't think I'm going to Rnfest, fair or what ever this year. We have a lot of home improvement to do, I'm going to be busy at work & what not.

Sometimes you have to draw the line on the amount of fun you can have in one lifetime :(

Oof. I know -- I spent half the day yesterday in combat with a huge spikey bush in the backyard. After many hours of attacking it with a shovel I was able to rend it's heart from the ground and was successful in slaying the beast!

If we go, we might only go once or twice this year. We used to go every weekend, but...well...we can't really do that anymore.

I know what it is to be house poor. We need gutters, the house painted, landscaping, a new roof, finish the basement, and I want to finish the rest of the kitchen.

Then Jeff wants to tear out all the drywall in the house, re-insalate & change all the cornerbead in the house and take out this ugly accustic celling. Then we need new doors & windows. Should I go on? This has nothing to do with costuming, but it will put a dent in it :D

As will the new couches we want, the stone fence that has to be knocked down and replaced with a wooden one, and the time Rachel and I will spend doing yardwork.

    Oof!

Keeps making me wonder...I spend so much time building stuff -- maybe I should try making some money from it.

After some thought, I've decided that I really should just go ahead and buy a new sewing machine for all the upcoming costume making. My mom's old Singer (45 yrs old?) has been a real trooper, but it's actually very, very basic - I mean, it only does one stitch! It also has a few adjustments that don't seem to adjust properly well anymore.

So I have a question for the sewing experts on the list - where would you recommend going to buy a sewing machine?
