I keep Flash disabled, and manually enable it only temporarily and for individual sites when I have a specific need for it on that site.

On the bright side, doing that has the benefit of killing off most autoplay videos on the internet (albeit that number is slowly reducing as companies begin to switch to HTML5 video players).

Just...don't remind the person with 400 .flv videos on a website about this. I'm going to cry and this task will be inevitable come later this year or next year. :(

    Off-topic over. Sorry. Mea culpa.

This doll has taken my heart; and I'm a bloke!

My main "clothes-horse" is Mary Formal, my Arcateenian who spent 250 years on Earth, before being transported into the Star Wars universe, or GFFA, if you prefer.

When her character first appeared on Torchwood (2005), she wore miniskirts, coloured tights, and it was the first time I had seen women's top's with almost no back to them, just strips of cloth, or string, and that was what I had her in when I first brought her into the GFFA, and she appeared in the roleplay game, Star Wars: Intervention.

During the Necroscope / E-Branch adventures that I inserted her into, when she feels the cold weather, due to not being able to feed, she is snug in thick woollen long-sleeved pullovers or jumpers (black or lemon yellow), with a knee-length pencil skirt.

In Australia, she starts out "in her usual sleeveless and backless t-shirt and a citrus-coloured ra-ra miniskirt and black kneeboots. She also had a small downward-pointing yellow triangle badge (an U.N.C.L.E. badge) with rounded points, pinned over the left breast of her black top, the number 22 stencilled in black on it."

When the Australian adventure moves to Brisbane, she affects the look of a secretary type, or a lawyer, white short-sleeved button-down blouses, black pencil skirt, worn with a tan shoulder holster holding a heavy Bren Ten automatic handgun.

Normally she avoids such corporate wear, but the reaction of the men around her, along with how the style meshes with her Man from U.N.C.L.E fangirling, she now wears it at the office back in London, to mirror the female UNCLE agents from the 1960s series and movies, long or short-sleeved white blouse, black or blue pencil skirt, snub-nosed Beretta in a dinky holster at the small of her back.

In the GFFA, she starts out with the backless tops and minis, but shopping on shore leave, same time as Ulrike on my last post, she buys her latest style:

Golden silk ankle-length cheongsam, sleeveless, throat-hugging, indecently high thigh slits in the skirt. Flowery plastic booties or short wellies have a moulded holster to accommodate the holdout blasters that Imperial scout troopers had on Endor.
During operations, she wears a black Coruscanti Police' STANG (Special Tactics and Nuff' Guns) flak vest. Stormtrooper belt with E-11 in scabbard.

EDIT: Really love the choice of backgrounds, and how they enhance the ensemble.

My OC Padishar Kreel dresses like the pirate lady below, cybernetics and all, except her eyes are hidden behind a pair of black mirrored shield-sunglasses. Padishar herself is also blue-skinned and covered in tattoos. All members of her ship dresses in blue and white striped sweater (or similar) and have red-an'-yellow bandanas on their head or around their necks.

    Samantha Irisa

Was a 15-year-old Jedi padawan, 4 years after Order 66, when Master Yoda and Agent Mitch Nifesta were forced to abandon her on the resort world of Pantolomin.

Mitch mind-rubbed her to purge her of jedi knowledge, and back to the age of eight, where his old SGIS mission supervisor, adopted and re-raised Irisa as a normal kid, and as her own daughter.

Coming of age, Samantha was presented with the Firespray-31, the Detective Wyms, that she had stolen on her last day as a jedi.

She dreams of being an Alliance starfighter pilot, which why she is dressed in their uniform, and I have played her as a lieutenant in the Rebellion, but in a game that was AU both to SW events, as well as her own timeline. The doll's skirt should come down to her knees, but on Azalea, skirts seem to have a Goldilocks and the Three Bears thing going on, either being too long, or too short. And strangely, tasty if you add salt.

Somewhere in her Firespray, her old lightsabre is secreted. If she ever does find it, a hypnotic trigger will bring her jedi past back to her, so she does have the right to wield a lightsabre, but the picture does not reflect her current reality.

Edit: Gotten Ulrike's (previous page) petticoats a bit more representative.

    Nurse Ulrike

Medic with the Mercs. Usually wears short-sleeved white nurse frock in Medical, but on a rare shore leave in her current roleplay, she went shopping, and purchased this black top for her favourite holoshow, Athosian Pop Idol, and pared it with a memory-foam petticoat that was hard to control.

    Gender: Female
    Age: 30
Clothing: White short-sleeved medical frock, with the hem above the knees. Semi-opaque white tights, white ankle boots. Merc patch on shoulder of frock.
Sidearm: five-shot stingbeam in pocket of uniform.

She is actually a fair bit older than this looks, but I suppose youngsters using dress up games won't be using older models.

Callsign: IMOTEP (Irresistable Medic of the Ec Pands)

RP Games: Star Wars: Intervention, Intervention: Echoes of Eternity

I have an OC who's a fashion buff: Eliskandra, later Eliskandro, the Hutt hairdresser-cum-detective. So let your imagination run wild, Azalea dolls won't help you here.

In her female incarnation, Eliskandra is often seen wearing fancy headdresses (think Queen Apailana's fan-shaped, feathered headdress in Padmé's funeral) and when in a private setting she'll wrap a scarf around her head, because she's a lady. She sports designer bolero jackets (preferably embroidered) and lots of rings and necklaces. She is particularly fond of Gwerlayne Interstellar cosmetics, but she also uses a lot of Jill Ett's Gastropod Glop Desiccant out of necessity. She wouldn't want to leave goo trails wherever she goes, would she? Her purse is always, always an authentic Goochy & Offspring design -- because, dahling, they're makers of quality nerf and shaak leather gear on Alderaan since the Ruusan Reformation!

(If you have no idea what I'm talking about, which is hopefully the case lest you think I'm crazy, have a look at this fanon post.)

In the early days following his transition to a male personality, Eliskandro adopts a more austere look, but no less elegant. Whenever he needs to go out and meet people, and particularly when he has to go to an Imperial administrative building, his standard gear is a waistcoat and a tie (or a bow tie) as well as a top hat. He carries an old-fashioned silver chronometer in his waistcoat pocket (fastened to a buttonhole with a thin chain of course), and when he really wants to impress people, he even wears a monocle. However, his flamboyant personality soon gets the better of him, and he reverts to his habit of wearing glittering jewellery. His personal favourite is a lariat of colourful beads (Kristophle design).

If any of your OCs need fashion advice, Eliskandro is always happy to give a free consultation in his Hair and Feathers Salon. Shazam is located in Coco Town on Coruscant, and you'll get there the fanciest hairdo credits can buy.

    YAVSCOUT

Yav' was the second character I created on the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, Everquest.

A pure elf, druid, and Surefall Paramedic, his aim was to scout out areas that I had not visited before, with a view for enabling rescues there, and being a roving agent.

Due to game mechanics, pure elves (and pure casters, eg. Wizards and Druids) were not able to wear armour that was more than say, leather jerkins, so with his arrival in the GFFA, he was initially cautious when in Star Wars: Intervention, he had to go undercover aboard an Imperial frigate dressed as a stormtrooper; he didn't know if the impervium would burn his skin, or what. On finding that he was able to wear the stuff, he was drokking delighted!

For the picture above, whilst deciding that this armour from the film Prometheus was what I wanted for a Kingdom of Jod "Go Team" that Yav was participating in, I decided that this guy would also be my model for Yav.

While the picture descriptive states that the armour shown should be in gold, that is for Go Team members, and Yav did wear that whilst working with them.
Now, his normal wear whilst out of a planet's atmosphere, is the same as in the picture, with blue ceraweave, under dark blue durasteel plates.

The picture also describes his more casual planetside wear.

In Everquest, when characters die, they respawn near-naked wherever their soul was bound, and have to run/travel back to the site of their demise to collect their clothing and equipment before it fades away; that, and the changes that I had to accept for him to get him into the SW game, mean that his Bind Point has been reset to the location of a pair of Red Rocks that he had unwitting contact with, and he maintains some damage from whatever killed him.
This is why he wears an armoured spacesuit all the time when off-world, with a helmet close to hand.

My OCs are a mixed bunch when it comes to love.

Doria Vorr lives in her fantasy world at this point in time (3.5 ABY/0.5 BBE). She has what she thinks is a celebrity crush and she unconsciously picked somebody she considers to be socially acceptable, because she thinks she may be more acceptable herself.

Sometime before this, right after her father's death, she was romantically involved with somebody she went to school with, but that was strange in so many ways. This will be referenced at some point and may be one of the reasons why the men gathering around her schoolmate, Tendra Risant, dislike her so much.

There is somebody Doria could be interested in, but at this point in time, the thought of that is so bizarre and so impossible, abstract that it didn't even cross her mind. ;) In near future, surprises may or may not await her.

Maris Inesedam-Vorr is not really interested in romantic relationships two years after the death of her husband, Elesandre. She is way too preoccupied with other things. Her late mother, Yola Antilless Inesedam never remarried either, so maybe it's in the family.

Larax Antilless was a known flirt as a young woman, but then she met the love of her life, Denaro, because of whom she escaped to Vagran and settled in Abatore. Denaro was slightly older and he recently passed away. She is into eye candy, bigtime, but a thought of an actual relationship hasn't occurred to her.

Duchess Branna is single. She is not willing to disclose her romantic past at this time, but her bitterness towards other people's romantic relationships speaks a lot!

Code:Blue married young and he's still with his wife, Dani. They have three children - Tai, Aarla and Jenik Shykrill Glisse. He challenged the Sacorrian customs by taking Dani's last name (Glisse) next to his (Shykrill), as they married during his years of playing limmie outside of the system. Ironically, many people, including the Sacorrian Triad themselves, are not aware of this! And, on top of this, people not realising he's a descendant of the Shykrill family pretty much saved his guts.

Code:Red and Antonio Nokaarbe are playboys.

Jax Novo is a playboy to a certain extent.

You introduce and discuss your OCs here, you can also create an entry in the OC Index for easy reference (as you'll see, some of us have very long lists of OCs, but it's okay to create an entry even if you have only one).

The only "crucial decision" that I can think off; in an RP, Star Wars: Intervention, my elf had infiltrated an Imperial Nebulon-B escort frigate with others, and the team's jedi found herself in space outside the ship. Probably in a spacesuit. There was an imminent danger.

Yavscout had a group emergency teleport that would take him to a "safe zone" within Everquest, so he had to chill in Engineering, on a deck chair to convince himself that it was a safe zone, then relying on the twenty minute air supply of a stormtrooper's armour, went after her.

My two OCs are kind of opposites in the way that they make decisions. Bree is rather spontaneous. She tends to jump in and do whatever it is and then figure out things on the way. That's what she did in the beginning of "True Blue" - she decided to leave her life, ditch college, and strike out on her own without any particular idea of where she was going. That same "damn the torpedoes" attitude nearly gets her killed later on when she jumps into a situation without really thinking about it first. But then again, she's Han's daughter, and that's what Dad would do.

Blue, on the other hand, tends to be far more cautious. He would rather hold back and figure things out without committing himself. But then, Blue has far more to lose should things go wrong. He is much more comfortable just keeping his head down and avoiding conflicts altogether.

Probably their most crucial decision happens in chapter 1. He calls out after her and asks her name, and she answers back. He decides to take a risk for once, bring attention to himself, and find out who this pretty girl is. She decides to slow down for once and answer the handsome guy with her real name. He was so used to being alone and not having any real connections to anyone that it was very unlike him to try to get to know Bree. Bree, for her part, was intent on travelling fast and light, so to open up to Blue went against what it was she thought she wanted. But it worked out. :p

    Introducing Maya Qwan!

I’m trying to decide how best to introduce Maya Qwan in the easiest-to-read way. I don’t really want to give away a full picture of her mind-map as that’s sort of what the stories are for. She is an RPG character, and the generated stats give a good quantified view of what she’s good/bad at. I like some of the bios here, like they are real people! Maybe I’ll try the bio approach…

    Summary:

Maya Qwan is a human Jedi Guardian level 1: A beginner Padawan. A lissome 16 years old (at the time of Secrets of Sewosta).

    Early life:

Maya was born and raised on the tropical world of Babali. She was what the Jedi call a “late blossom”. Her Force sensitivity was recognised at the age of 10 by her Teras Kasi martial arts instructor, who noticed she was moving more quickly, anticipating opponents’ attacks, and displaying preternatural gymnastic agility. This culminated in a stressful sparring session at the village’s dojo, when she actually levitated. (She’s never been able to reproduce that feat as yet). He contacted the Jedi, and they came for her.

    As a youngling:

An orphan raised by the Babalinese community, Maya initially transitioned well to communal life in the Jedi Temple. Outgoing and curious about other species, she made friends quickly. She struggled in classes, though. A late starter and not particularly studious, she was trying to catch up from the start. Her teachers thought her a poor student. For her part, Maya found lectures on history and philosophy boring and pointless.

The one discipline Maya did do well in was combat. Her martial arts training gifted her a head start in stance and balance. She quickly adapted the unarmed techniques of Teras Kasi to the weightless blade of a lightsaber.

Nevertheless, Maya struggled to cope with the new pressures in her life and started to miss her simpler life on the idyllic islands of Babali.

Then, at 13 she discovered the fun side of living in a metropolis. She befriended the older trainee, Barriss Offee (whom she thought was the height of cool), and together they regularly sneaked out of the Temple to window-shop and visit places in the city like CoCos town. Maya was entranced by the bright lights, the fashions, the music, the vibe. This ended when they got into trouble with some lowlifes and had to defend themselves using their Force powers. Their escapades discovered, Maya was branded a “wild one”, Barriss was reprimanded for encouraging her, and the relationship cooled.

    Becoming a Padawan

A tense time followed when Maya approached the age when she would either be selected as a Padawan, or go the other way… Some of the more martially-orientated Masters were interested in her combat skills, particularly the mighty swordsman, Pong Krell. Yoda thought better of that. Instead she was paired with an elderly Ithorian, Master Chodo Sun.

Maya was disappointed in this match up, but was clever enough by now not to say so. Chodo holds an absolutist belief in pacifism. Maya felt strongly that not only was self-defence justified, it was morally required. To her mind, pacifism enables evil. Chodo was extremely patient with Maya, and adopted a role of guide rather than instructor. He encouraged her to ask questions and puzzle out the answers for herself, taking her along on his numerous mediation missions then requesting her thoughts at their conclusion.

At times Maya became frustrated with Chodo and would argue and call him all the names she could think of, especially when he went into what she called “Tree-mode” and just remained still and quiet. Every time, she would run out of energy and anger, and come back later to apologise.

Whether she appreciates it or not, Maya has learned far more under Chodo than she ever did in a classroom. The curriculum was “non-standard”, led by Maya’s own curiosity and experiences. Chodo simply guided her along this “self-discovery” method. As is often the case in Master-Padawan relationships, Maya has come to view Chodo as a surrogate father.

When the opportunity offered itself Maya discreetly organised more combat training and practice with Mace Windu (she doesn’t know this, but Chodo – who never touches a lightsaber – secretly set it up). Mace has been an uncompromising instructor, punishing Maya with bruising lessons to keep in check her overconfidence and lapses in concentration. To her credit, she never gave up, limping secretly back to her quarters and hoping Chodo didn’t notice her bruises.

    The Clone Wars begin:

An important stage came in Maya’s training. Chodo needed to teach her that to find some of the higher answers she needs to be still, both in body and mind. She is still learning this, but perhaps he is slowly getting through.

The Separatist crises reignited their old feud. Chodo was a vociferous objector to Jedi interference, outright condemning the creation of the clone army and certainly taking no combat role alongside them. Maya is eager to do what she can to help. When the emergency call came to muster all available Jedi for the Assault Team to Geonosis, Maya was judged to be too young and left behind. She suspects this was Chodo’s doing.

Chodo’s importance, and voice, within the Order has diminished as it moves to a war-footing. Maya senses it is time for her to take up a role in the galaxy…

As for finding love? It’s not even on Maya’s radar yet. But Chodo recognises it is not only likely, but almost inevitable to come soon. He anticipates another difficult lesson, knowing Maya instinctively rails against rules unless she can immediately understand their importance. She did recently participate in a special combat workshop led by Anakin Skywalker (on techniques versus battle droids), and found herself strangely shy and awkward in the presence of the dashing young knight. She’s not sure why her body disobeyed her on this occasion, yet.

Wow! That was impressive. From all I read about Maya so far, I'd say you portrayed her perfectly in stories, despite of the limitations of the RPG-esque writing style compared to more descriptive styles. It was so easy to figure out most of the things outlined here, which means you just KNOW how to utilise your chosen medium. :)

Ewok Poet It was too long, wasn't it? You can say if it was too long :). To be honest that's the first time I've properly set out her entire backstory and it sort of gushed out. For me her life started at 16 when she took that first mission to Sewosta. Over time I've thoroughly mind-mapped her and built up various anecdotes from her youth - the dojo on Babali, the sneaking out of the Jedi Temple, the relationship with Chodo.

I'm not sure about that orphan bit. A bit cliched. She's not meant to be a "oh, poor me" character, the idea was to spare her that trauma of separation from parents and ease her transition to the Temple. That always seems to me such a terrible thing for the Jedi to do - though they all seem to get over it alright I suppose (except Anakin). But I needed her to spend enough time on Babali to build up that grounding in martial arts.

By the way I got curious in that azaelas dolls website that Sith-I-5 is using and knocked up an approximation of Maya...

I love the vacant expression lol. Looks like she's thinking "WTF? Why am I holding a lightsaber? Where's my tiara?" [face_laugh]

Surprised me, too. Though the fact that I only needed it for three characters was what surprised me the most (I guess it's because a lot of my male OCs have been based off of the looks of real people).
