Chief of State Natasi Daala has been overthrown, and the Jedi Order has taken control of the Galactic Alliance. But while the new governors dismantle Daala?s draconian regime, forces still loyal to the deposed official are mobilizing a counterstrike. And even the Jedi?s new authority may not be enough to save Tahiri Veila, the former Jedi Knight and onetime Sith apprentice convicted of treason for the killing of Galactic Alliance officer Gilad Pellaeon.

Meanwhile, Luke and Ben Skywalker are relentlessly pursuing Abeloth, the powerful dark-side entity bent on ruling the galaxy. But as they corner their monstrous quarry on the planet Nam Chorios, the two lone Jedi must also face the fury of the Sith death squadron bearing down on them. And when Abeloth turns the tables with an insidious ambush, the Skywalkers? quest threatens to become a suicide mission.

The DP is useless in determining how big a role a character plays in the book. I'm sure Tenal Ka has a bigger role than just that one meeting with Alana, it just hasn't been spoiled yet.

Well, dead Mara was on the cover of VORTEX and only had a couple insignificant minutes as a reflection in a pond...

The DP has become worthless. It only states the main characters we all know, like the SkySolo clan. "Han Solo; pilot" They should get rid of it, or go back to the earlier books where the DP was actually a useful guide to keeping track of new and secondary characters.

If the spoilers give an appropriate view of the role of characters, the role of both Tahiri and Tenel Ka is small. But then, they were mostly about Jaina & Captain Cardboard. Latter is denounced by few Moffs after taking part in Kenth Hamner's funeral and publicly supporting the overthrow of Daala.

To spoil other people's spoilers more: Daala supposedly gets overthrown at page 174 of the novel, Jedi imprison her and Saba&Jaina&Corran march to the Senate to inform it about the new Jedi "junta"(my term), but Daala is saved by Boba Fett after sending secret message to him through her lawyer. Tahiri, who has been convicted to death, escapes at the same time.

Jedi and Sith confront each other at Nam Chorios, Luke gets hit and blacks out during space combat and ends in an infirmary. Doesn't fight Abeloth this time.

Han, Leia and Allana end up on Klatooine. Zekk makes an appearance at Nam Chorios.

Looks like Tyria Tainer makes another appearance. It is an Allston novel after all.

The GA has truly become a banana republic.

    What happens with Wyn Dorvan?

    Who becomes Chief of State?

What becomes of the sick Jedi?

Im looking foward to this one. Hopefully this series will start to pick up some steam now that it is in its last 3rd act. I enjoyed Vortex quite a bit.

I dread this book more than I look forward too it.

Under Denning's lead the Eu has had too many butt-pulls, poor characterization, and flat out character assassination, this series has been draged out far too long, and has become extremly repetative.

Part of me it tempted just too rent from a library rather than buy it.

Hopefully some spoilers will bring that spark I use to feel back.

To continue to spoil other people's spoilers:

The charges etc against Luke etc are abandoned after Daala's fall - Luke could return now if he would wish - except that against Tahiri. Wynn Dorvan convinces Saba to let the charges against Tahiri stand - in effect let Tahiri be sacrificed (my interpretation, after which original spoiler continues) so that the Jedi would look neútral. Saba herself is under investigation by GA for Kenth's death.

The Horn siblings are under the influence of Abeloth until the very end - escaping off-planet from Coruscant at one point with a new reporter character - when they are somehow released according to Jaina's claim to Luke. Before that Valin fights Ben Skywalker and Vestara Khai on Nam Chorios.

Callista is somehow released from Abeloth's grip and becomes one with the Force.

Tenel Ka's role seems to be small, scene with Allana and another with Han&Leia, and then there is a necessary failed assassination attempt against her, apparently by the Sith.

Lol Great and the Jedi wonder why the public can not tell the difference between them and Sith. Seriously say what u will about the OJO failing to spot Sith and Palps but the NJO is so much more incompetent.

Giving Allston one more chance. Outcast and Backlash were huuuuuuge stinkers, but I read the Wraith Squadron trilogy and Adumar for the first time recently, so I can't count the man out yet.

Two conspiracies against Daala come to fruition and clash. The secret cabal of Imperial and Alliance leaders led by Lecersen finally moves in to overthrow her, infiltrate guards into her office, and execute their operation to overthrow her but are interrupted by the Jedi who have also infiltrated the Senate to overthrow her. However, Daala is unaware of the plot within her own ranks; she's shot in the back with a stun bolt by one of Lecersen's goons, but they claim it was a shot from Leia's blaster. Daala is arrested, and a Triumvirate is established (hints to Legacy comic?) with one Saba, Treen and Jaxton leading it. Daala is eventually broken out of prison by Boba Fett.

Valin and Jysella are under Aboleth's influence but they are not thinking the Jedi are still imposters towards the end - rather, ABoleth has them believe it is the real Luke, just under posession. At the conclusion, they are completely cured. For the time being I guess.

Tahiri is found guilty and sentenced to death. Escapes during Daala's breakout.

Klatooine achieves its independence goal after some rough negotiations with Han Solo. The Sith commander on Klatooine finds out Tenel Ka and Allana are related. He plants a bomb in C3PO to kill Tenel Ka, but is stopped by Allana, and the timely intervention of both her pet nexu and Leia. That commander dies so the Sith haven't found out about Allana yet.

Luke is cleared of his charges, allowed to resume his duties. He frees Callista from Aboleth by ripping her Force Ghost from her body (something like that) and becomes one with the Force. Hit with the loss of Castilla and Vestara killing a tsil, Aboleth is weakened and escapes into space. She's pursued by Kyp, Jaina, Luke and Raynor Thul in stealh-x's. raynor is shot down but survives, aboleth is hit by raynor's shadowbomb but manages to escape, albeit weakened. At the end, she approaches Gavar Khai and offers an alliance to stop their mutual enemy, Luke.

Luke gives a full detail of Aboleth to a journalist and she captures some of Aboleth-Castilla on her recorder. But she's kidnapped, presumably by a Sith, and her fate is unknown.

Looking forward to this novel. Backlash far and away has been the highlight of this series for me (the pulp sci-fi feel was such a breath of fresh air), so I'm hoping Allston can leave on a high note before splitting off from this Force-forsaken 9/3 model to go write another Wraith novel.

I've been kinda flabbergasted by the advert for this book since I first read it a few weeks back.

The last book pretty much ended with Saba saying "We must remove Daala from office" and the Jedi discsussing whta they were worried that Daala would do to them.

It wasn't a question of Daala was going to attack, but how quickly - Page 356

Now we haven't even started the next book and we're already on "Daala has been overthrown"????????

    Apparently I missed the revolution........

SABA SEBATYNE IS CHIEF OF STATE OF THE GALACTIC ALLIANCE as the first triumvir of the Galactic Alliance triumvirate... really... together with Senator Treen and Jaxton. "temporary" only until new elections are held but we know how that will end, right?

with that, amongst other things my faith in FOTJ redeeming itself is finally lost!

can't even post the other new spoilers from lominale... so shocked am I...

    1. Kill Grand Master
    2. Coup Chief of State
    3. ????
    4. Become Chief of State

Anyway, Jacen Solo couped the Chief of State to become the next one. Saba killed the Grand Master and couped the Chief of State to become the next one. Saba, a Jedi Master, has done worse than Jacen, the Dark Lord of the Sith, at this point to attain this high office.

    #3 is:
and Jaina and Corran are at Sabas side when she informs the Senate of the coup and removal of Daala... thus Jedi Council sanctioned it all! she indeed is worse.

Palpatine /Daala was right  the jedi are taking over. We must fight back Before our freedom is lost forever.

But seriously how can Saba claim to be better then Jacen, at least he used the law and arrested his predecessor. Good to see that the Other coup for all intents and prepossess worked.

So these are the leaders of the senate are a general, a jedi and a senator. I am the only one who thinks the senate should have a lest two seats. it reminds me of the Three Estates of pre-revolution France. You had the church (jedi), the Aristocracy (the military, as they should be keep the Heck away from government) and the people (the Senate) and each had an equal vote. it was wrong then and it wrong here. this calls for a ............
    ........... Revolution!!!!!

Who will get help from the Sith probs.
