Yes it's a dumb name but I rather them do this then the alternatives which is picking a "temp name" only to drop it for the true name change or worse yet keep the Redskins for one more year and then retire it. Doesn't stop the talking heads on ESPN from complaining about it though which is what I think their job in life to do is complain about everything. They are changing the name. That is the main thing. Who cares if they are taking their time with the next one. Seriously there are way more issues then the Washington forgoing a team nickname for one season.

The Washington football team. What a racist team name.

The guys on the NFL podcast suggested that every city just do that.

The Los Angeles Football Team. The Kansas City Football Team. The New York Footb...

    ...oh wait.

Charlotte would have a problem too, although I guess we could be the Carolina Football Team and the Charlotte Football Club.

Laurent Duvernay Tardiff for the Chiefs is the first NFL player to opt out of his contract for the year. He will instead treat COVID patients in his native Canada (he is a doctor). Gotta respect that.

seattle won the deal by a mile. jamal adams is a generational talent, and the jets are chicken****. those firsts will probably be near the end of the round, and will be used on backup tight ends or the next in the neverending string of quarterbacks of the future.

at least he's not going to dallas.

Wow, Adam Gase is successfully destroying yet another football team. Who could have guessed? Not the New York Jets apparently.

They got two firsts for a safety who isn't Ed Reed in coverage. It's not a horrible deal for the Jets, but that they had to trade him is the sign of a dysfunctional franchise. No one wants to trade a young, All-Pro leader type.

Minkah Fitzpatrick went for one first. He's not as good as Adams overall, but he's better in coverage, where it matters more.

Draft picks become a lot more interesting because of the upcoming college football season where many players may not get to play a full season, something which could last through the 2021 season. So top round picks may not be as valuable as in years past.

Unless their name is Ronnie Lott or Ed Reed, a safety is not worth two first round picks especially one like Adams whose coverage skills are good but not great.

Both Patrick Mahomes & Andy Reid gave their thumbs up on safety procedures for this upcoming season at least what they seen:

    https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...d-ease-seeing-kansas-city-chiefs-safety-setup

I still wish someone like Reid can essentially coach remotely at least until testing gets to the point we are running point of care tests at millions per day. He checks too many at risk boxes to be exposed even with all the safety protocols they are putting out.

any chance the NFL will hub-city it's teams like NBA or NHL because just a few days into MLB's willy nilly flying all over the country it isn't exactly looking like a positive model.

None. It was a nonstarter with the NFLPA. They do have an advantage over the MLB in that they only have to travel 8 times a year and it is only for a weekend. They are also hoping to have point of care testing by the time games start which is one of the big problems with the MLB current testing. It's a 24-48 hour turnaround for testing. Way too long of a turnaround for them to being play sports especially with all the traveling.

Several players opted out today including Eddie Goldman of the Bears which is a lost since he is a darn good NT.

Lots of opts outs today across the league, I’m assuming it’s just the tip of the iceberg. The NFL is probably the worst of any of the major sports leagues at COVID preparedness and we’ve got the Miami Plague running around in the MLB.

It is true that with far fewer games, though, there's a lot less chance for exposure in the NFL. So hopefully that helps.
