Minus the whole smashing into each other for an hour vs. barely ever touching.

Phillies seem to have avoided contagion by the Marlins, but an outbreak like that in football is gonna be hard to contain to one team.

But no major names yet. Long as the major names stay in IE QB's and star playmakers, the league will keep truggling along.

Again if they can get point of care testing that will make a major difference as well.

It's not the sweat or even landing on top of each other @LloydChristmas that will give COVID-19 as Dr. Fauci talk about it as it's players breathing on top of another that will cause an outbreak among teams. That is where the N95 helmets are supposed to make a massive difference as if everyone wears them, the transmission between one team to the other is extremely low. But so far many players are balking at wearing it therefore I think they will be mandated it.

Not to mention football having the most number of athletes on the field at a time.

And I'm sure knowing Mahomes is going to be in their division for a long time helped motivate needing to keep Bosa a long time.

That is why it's imperative IMHO that the players agree to wear the N95 helmets to really lower the risk of cross spreading among teams and hopefully, Dr. Collins makes good on his promise to have point of care testing readily available this fall therefore players can get tested before the game with an hour or less turnaround. That is the problem with the MLB testing currently. Turnaround time is 24-48 hours. Now that is fine with someone who is quarantining at home until they get their results but someone trying to play baseball or a sport is a different story. They really need rapid testing especially for football. Hopefully that coming this fall along with therapeutics so we can start turning the corner on this bleeping thing!

For me it's more like "play a shortened season with no fans and in an isolation bubble". There has to be somewhere they could do this..the NBA has had zero positive tests.

The NFL has absolutely no excuse for being blindsided by this. Unlike every other major sports league they had months to prepare a plan for this and they just sat on their hands. Just complete negligence. Did they drink the kool-aid and actually think this was just magically going to go away?

Sounds like that's basically it. Evidently the Chiefs were the first team to even have a plan together, and get it approved by the NFLPA a few weeks ago.... And that should have been months ago! But it sounds like they were all waiting for guidance that never came from Goddell.

    What a joke he is.

The majority of owners are buddy buddies with Trump. That explains everything.

The US in general has responded horribly to COVID-19, and the NFL’s lack of response has been a typical example. We just haven’t adapted, because adapting would require prioritizing something other than money, and that’s just antithetical to who we are. The NFL didn’t want to plan because any plan would logically result in a loss of revenue. The NFL hoped that, if they just waited long enough, they somehow wouldn’t have to change and would be able to rake in their expected revenue. Any plan that resulted in a loss of revenue wasn’t worth conceiving.

Adapt or die. To adapt, we needed to prioritize something other money. We couldn’t do it, so we’re dying. The same thing is happening with climate change, and when the crisis reaches its climax, our response will be every bit as incapable.

The NFL players were dead set against a bubble. Ditto the MLB players. Only reason the NBA & NHL both agreed to it was because teams would be eliminated as it went along therefore only a few teams would need to be in it for two months. Plus in the case of the NHL they are in safe areas being in Canada.

Far as the NFL goes, yeah they been slow but also I think they been expecting better breakthroughs in technology particularly testing since the Trump administration said rapid point of care testing would be available for major leagues sports and in reality it's now about to become August and the point of care tests are just starting to be roll out for massive use including to major sports (only good news is these second generation rapid tests that we had to wait longer then we expected are way more accurate then the first ones as these have a 97% accuracy rating & are able to handle so many more tests per day) plus they were really hoping MLB would be further along then they are so they could help use that as a template.

I still not that worried about the NFL. because they have enough $$$ to fix mistakes plus these are professional athletes therefore they understand their pay check depends on their ability to lay low during the season. College football is what I worry about it especially since more and more breakouts are coming from young people having parties or hanging out at a bar. As my buddy doctor told me this morning, our cases aren't exploding due to people shopping at the Gap or even eating at Jimmy John's particularly if they are outside. They are getting it from partying as we saw it locally. 53 cases from a town near us were all traced back to a high school football team party. I blame the Trump administration for a lot of what has gone wrong along with some MAGA governors who opened way too fast but some things I cannot blame them for like too many people having massive graduation parties and bbqs.

All it would take is another Zeke Elliot to have with his teammates and test positive and the season is dead.

Assuming the players wear the N95 helmets (which again I think should be mandatory) and POC testing is where the league expects to be by fall, the risk of actually practicing/playing is minimum therefore the season will come down to how disciplined the players & staff of what they do outside of the facilities. Considering the fact that two MLB teams have outbreaks due to players visiting a casino and bars, the odds of ALL NFL teams players & staff not breaking safety protocols is well minimum therefore will jeopardize the season that way.

Evidently he held an unscheduled meeting with players to tell them about it. In person.
