I can't take Palpatine seriously knowing his name is Sheev.

Is it possible that Palpatine lied to Tarkin about his first name?

Wow, are you on a roll. :p

From what little snooping around I did, the book looks great. The new canon feels weird (same signifier -- what exactly is signified?), but Luceno is back in form.

It's sad that it will be to a certain extent overshadowed by that impossibly stupid name. Maybe they thought it'd sell more books? Why would it in the Internet age? Then, why in the name of all the deities above and below would they have Luceno put that in? He can't have just decided to drop that in there without even elaborating on it. Why the hell...?

(Wookieepedia could help things by not moving the article into that eyesore of a title within 7 femtoseconds of it leaking, too....)

On the plus side, the Legends tab is still under "Palpatine." [face_whistling]

At least it's better than Malak's real name.

    Alek Squigilamialgaiagalagliglus.

To me, it's like comparing herpes to the clap*. Once you get to a certain tier of suck, ranks are quite moot.

    *So I've read.

Maybe his real name's Steven, and he's "Sheev" by way of "Steve the Sheev" because he was... in a gang? Steven Palpatine, that sounds good, right? I think I'll go with that.
Wait, does Wookieepedia know about this? Why is the "Malak" article not under "Alek Squigilamialgaiagalagliglus"? I demand a word with the High Commissar of the Committee of Silly Nomenclature and Pointless Titling!

I fully understand why Palpatine never uses his first name.

Hmm...Dooku doesn't use his first name either. I wonder how crappy it is.

For his sake, I hope he had it legally changed to Count.

Maybe "Count" is what his friends call him and his full name is "Counterpoint". Maybe his parents were having some... issues.

Also, I suspect Tarkin's days were numbered the moment he dared to utter that embarrassing factoid in public. Palps probably leaked the Death Star plans to the Rebellion as he did with its successor at Endor, all in an elaborate game to kill Tarkin ignominiously at the moment of the Moff's utter triumph.

    He's petty that way.

I think with this, we finally have a name worse than Skere Kaan.

    Evil.

My thoughts exactly. Personally, I think that when they try to give first names to characters who've previously only had one name, it almost always turns out badly. Skere Kaan is a good example, and I've never liked Gial as Ackbar's first name, either. Something about his name just being "Ackbar" fits, for me. "Admiral Ackbar" is who he is; he's never been "Gial." Even "Crix" Madine, probably my favorite "first name" invented by the EU, isn't as good as just "General Madine."
