They could have at least used a name that ends on a hard sound. Sheev just doesn't flow with Palpatine. Heck, the Frank joke from all those years ago fits better IMO.

    Evil.

Well, now we know why he had to stop using it. Nobody would take his asheevements seriously with a name like that.

I imagine it would indeed make it difficult to be a successful Sheev among the proverbial Indians.

Yeah, if my parents give me a name like that, I'd grow up to commit genocide, blow up planets, and laugh like a maniac while screaming about ultimate power too.

Knowing all this, I wonder if Padme had to stifle laughter in that scene in TPM. "I must be Frank, Your Majesty..."

Yeah, I'm sure that's an upgrade for you.

He always had to make sure to wear very fancy robes so nobody would judge him for looking disheeveled.

"You must join me, Obi-Wan, and together we will destroy the Sheev!"

This put Dooku's words into a whole new perspective.

The bit about design flaws and the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation from the venerable Hitchhiker's series springs to mind, for some reason.

What's next, arguing about how long Vader's ship is from ESB?

Well, at least I actually bought Darth Plagueis, and the Dark Lord Trilogy is all of the justification I need to ignore TCW, so the multimedia project is just icing on the cake.

    Oh...dear...quay....

    This is unbesheevable.

Suddenly this quote from Darth Plagieus makes a lot more sense :

"I haven't rejected the dynasty I was born into. I've rejected the name I was given."
    ―Palpatine to Hego Damask

    No Sheev Sherlock

I'd be pretty pissed at my dad too if I was named Sheev.

I wouldn't force throw him across a bulkhead or anything like that but I'd be pretty pissed.

I feel like SuperShadow could have come up with a better name. Hell, he did come up with a better name.

Oh well, still better than Natasi.

He is the Emperor, the OT did not even need to give him a name for him to work as a character. Hell I would actually have given the PT bonus points if they also just obscured it and everyone always just called him by his titles. ;)

Okay, so I'm not buying this book. What a ridiculous first name for Palpatine. This book is officially non-canon to me. I guess I'm just going to have to make the films my personal canon, where Darth Sidious has no first name and is just called Palpatine. We were better off with Cosinga.

Well, to be fair, Navajas, Cuchillo, Cucoy, Machete & Razor Charlie were already taken by Danny Trejo characters so this might have been all that is left.

A google of Sheev via the urban dictionary tells me the definition is this: a term used to characterize a guy who is well dressed and smells nice.

So either way it is clearly the coolest name ever..

Let's not be too unsheevil people, it's just one word. One incredibly stupid word that misses a big point of Palpatine: He's a character with no past. Even when we have read an entire book about his past a lot is still guesswork. So just putting one of the big details in a throwaway line in another book feels... simply bad. I'm not going to dismiss the whole book because of it but it doesn't leave me happy.

It's almost sad how much the name reminds me of Meetra, double-e:s in names just don't work. But as that name hasn't caught on (mostly people speak of The Exile) I don't except that Sheev catches on either. His Imperial Majesty has many better titles.

I find it interesting that his name is only said once in the novel. Maybe it was something the Story Group dictated that Luceno must include, so he only used it once and tried to forget about it afterwards?

Also, I noticed a certain droid from Darth Plagueis is in the novel, which makes me very, very happy. Here's hoping 11-4D makes many more appearances throughout the new canon.
