Making Friends, Part 2

"Okay, so I'm leaving my actual journal at the house today, and using this recorder instead, because fun stuff is gonna happen that I'll want to write about, but I don't want to be That Person, who goes to a party and then sits by themself with a book the whole time. This way I can enjoy the party and still have notes to write all about it later. Oh, and I'm glad I decided to get the waterproof one, because a beach party means there's a definite possibility of me getting wet."

At this point he's mostly making decisions based on what feels right, "going with the flow", if you will.

[Voice ID: Ace] We rode Merida's rollerbike out to a landing field. The place wasn't exactly a spaceport, but our ride to the party was an old Firefly called Nirvana. Tyra was waiting there with her boyfriend Kai, and I was introduced to the crew of Nirvana before we took off. They all seem like great people, but if it wasn't for this thing, I'd probably have trouble remembering their names.

[Voice ID: Ace] I've been talking to the crew and getting to know them a little better. They're all terrific, but so far the one I really click with the most is the pilot. His name is Wayne Hoban, but he usually goes by Hobbs. He's about my size, with spiky blonde hair, and a round, friendly face. I have a hunch we're gonna be pretty good friends.

Ute = Australian for pickup truck

Rollerbike = GFFA for motorcycle (Note to self: put together fanon post on "Stuff and Things")

 

Nice writing tricks about the voice recorder, but that must be a *beeeep* of a party since they're going off world.

 

This is surely a way to enjoy life. Party time at the beach.

 

Came to think of it: "Who may 'Shotgun' be?" Are we going to meet more familiar faces?

Yup.

"Shotgun" is American slang. Mal is calling dibs on the front passenger seat. The expression derives from the days of stagecoaches, when the person riding next to the driver would be carrying a literal shotgun for protection from any hostiles they may meet along the way.

Also: The crew of the Nirvana may or may not seem familiar, but I'm not gonna tell why they might. If you recognize them at all, cool, but if you don't, they're still cool peeps, so it doesn't matter.

Because Darth Real Life has been being a real *Beeeep!* to me lately, I almost missed posting both entries for this month! I have one day left, and to complicate things, I'm away from home! Party Time

[Voice ID: Ace] "After we met up with Targ and chatted for a while, the crew unpacked some stuff from the Ute and staked out a spot on the beach. There's a huge blanket, a couple of umbrellas for a little shade, folding chairs, cushions, a bag of snacks, and a cooler full of drinks. All of it is very colorful. The others either went into the water or started playing games on the beach right away. I plan to join in the fun soon, but right now I'm sitting here people watching. There are a lot of people here, and they all seem to be happy and having fun, but I get the feeling that this party hasn't even really started yet."
