Title: The Secret Diary of a Padawan

Summary: A padawan makes a bet with another padawan to keep a diary for a year.
Notes: This is a response to the [link=http://boards.theforce.net/fan_fiction_resource/b10304/27816976]Dear Diary Challenge 2008[/link], a challenge to keep the diary of a character for a year, I have chosen an OC Padawan in the [link=http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tapani_Sector]Tapani Sector[/link]. While this is set in the Tapani Sector it is not known where exactly inside the sector it is. The sector itself is in the region known as the Colonies, just outside of the Core Worlds region. Looking at [link=http://www.starwarss.com/star_wars_galaxy_map.jpeg]this map[/link], it's next to the word 'Colonies'. It's main reason for being set there is that I like the names of the days and the months.

As the diary progresses I'll be expanding the notes to include information that's relevant to the latest entry, which is why it has it's own post.

Oh my head!

Last night we celebrated the end of the old year and the start of the new one. Some of the older Apprentices smuggled in some, um, I'm not sure. Whatever it was it was more than a little bit intoxicating and I drank more that a little bit too much of it. Anyway, I seem to have gotten myself into a challenge with another padawan. The challenge is to keep a diary for a year, or at least longer the other one can. I can't remember what the winner gets but I think it's good. It's why I'm up now, I would have gone back to bed but I knew I'd forget, might as well get it done now.

I'm so glad that it's Natunda today. We get Natundas off, which is great as I really don't feel capable of anything at all today. I think with some meditation I should be OK for tomorrow.

On a plus, I didn't wake alone, so I can't be the only one who had too much! Time to crawl back into bed and hope I'm not so sore when I wake up.

 

Great first post and I have seen some of those persons tonight, whew.

I shouldn't laugh at the poor padawan's misfortune but having been there myself...

Very nice beginning. I hope, in the future, the padawan won't be quite so trusting with what is being eaten or drunk.

Subject: Busy, so busy!

My Master went off on a mission at the beginning of the week, it was deemed to dangerous for a Padawan to go on and so I was left behind. I had been left some tasks to do while my Master was away. This included going to the station near the Polar Regions for some supplies. It's the middle of winter and there was a storm on the way so there wasn't much time.

The station is quite large and has retractable shielding which covers the whole place in a giant dome. The buildings would be buried if it wasn't for this. It's more like a small town and the amount of snow that falls would make it impossible to leave the buildings, or even find them. The dome also keeps it warm so there's not much need for warm clothing, thank the Force. The first few days were full of being busy, rushing all over trying to get everything sorted so it could be sent out before the storm came.

We didn't make it.

The snow storm hit and now there's no way out of the station until the storm passes. All that hard work seems to have been for nothing. At least now the rest of the preparations can be done at a leisurely pace and the previous work can be checked.

Mind you, I was sent with a certain someone from New Year's Eve, so it's not as bad as it could have been. It's a shame we're both too tired to do anything, but it's Natunda tomorrow so we'll probably go round the small shopping area as we're not going to get any work done.

 

The domed city sounds like the best place to ride out a snowstorm. I wish we had them here in NY

I like that you include entry titles and moods, giving it the feel of a livejournal. For some reason, that just makes it seem very real to me.

 

That's exactly where I got the idea from, and for exactly that reason.

The storm let up two days ago and our work was well rewarded. We managed to get everything back to the Academy in record time. It only took two days to unpack everything and organise it properly in the Acadamies stores. I was jointly in charge of the process as I had done a lot of the organising and knew which crates contained what and knew where it all had to go. It felt weird giving orders to older Jedi. They didn't seem to take much notice though, but I kind of got the feeling that they thought it was weird taking orders from Padawans.

Maybe it was just my imagination.

Talking of which, it seems to be playing up lately. I sensed something amiss while I was at the station. It could have been just my imagination as I'm the only one who felt it. It's hard to describe so it could just have been me. I'm not going to talk to my Master about it as no one else can back me up and he'd probably dismiss it as something trivial. We did eat some . . unusual foods while we were there, maybe that was it.

Oh well. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I don't have any plans other than lounge around meditating. I was planning on visiting the workshops at some point. My lightsabre feels off and I'd like to look at it before I actually need to use it for anything other than show. Being caught in a fight with effectively nothing more than a metal tube does not appeal to me.

The workshop was largely empty when I got there last week, which is good. I like being able to concentrate on my work. I'm not sure what exactly was wrong with my lightsabre but I seem to have fixed it. There were a few small things that I adjusted and it seemed to do the trick. It actually felt close to perfect when I activated it for the first time afterwards. My Master even commented on it during out practice session. The colour has changed minutely, but that's OK, it's still a nice colour.

In other news, that bad feeling I had back at the station has returned, and it's brought a friend. I seem to be itching everywhere that I have hair. Using the 'fresher helped at first but now it's gotten worse and I'd have to use it continuously. Maybe I should have mentioned the bad feeling to my Master after all. Oh well, I've made an appointment with a Healer, hopefully they'll be able to sort it out. I hope no one has noticed.

I've checked wookiepedia for species that are covered in hair. The ones named, the Cathar and the Whipids both have hair and the articles for each named at least one Jedi.

I apologise for not having updated in ages, I just got too stressed out with exams to actually do any writing.

It's been nearly four week since my last entry and way too much has happened. I'll start just after my last entry as that when things started happening.

Not long after I wrote my last entry, as I was waiting to see the Healers, I'd noticed that a few others were sneaking a quick itch here and there. What's worse is that I was noticing it more and more just before I saw the Healers. When I saw the Healer she took one quick look at my hair and promptly proclaimed that I was infested with something. What's worrying is that she had never seen anything like it before in her life. After deciding that it was probably contagious she put me in quarantine, which is the main reason for not having updated for a long time. It was all very boring until a few days after I was locked away.

Another Padawan joined me in quarantine on the second day, followed by a Master and his Padawan. On the third day there were four new people in quarantine. It's not just humans and near-humans that were affected, some of the . . hairier Jedi and Padawans were also being put in quarantine. All of us had one thing in common: a prolific itch where ever there was hair.

After a week they stopped admitting people to quarantine as it was getting full. As they were getting more and more people complaining of itching they suspected that the infection was more widespread than they had thought. After pleading with the Council the whole Academy was put under quarantine. The Polar Station was contacted and they had a similar problem and they decided to quarantine the whole planet. All incoming ships were told to go somewhere else until it was safe to return and all ships that had left were ordered to return immediately at first signs of itching. Whatever this bug is, they did not want it getting out.

All the while the Healers were performing tests and experiments on the bug. It was eventually determined that the bug ate hair. This would explain why only those of us that had any hair were affected. Unfortunately they were unable to find a cure, though they kept trying, keeping us in quarantine all the time. We were eventually let out late last night after we complained about it being unfair. Everyone else was either able to walk around or they were confined to their quarters whereas we were stuck in quarantine. They relented and had us confined to our quarters like everyone else.

So this bug thing that's plaguing us. It eats hair and isn't interested in any part of any species where there is no hair. They can't kill it but they know that if it doesn't get hair it dies quickly. They don't know how long it lives normally or how fast it breeds so they just told us to wait and see what happens. My hair is growing thinner and all I can do is wait. We'll be confined to our quarters until it looks like the bug is going away, though no one seems to know how long that will be. At least the only remaining hair is on my head so I've stopped itching elsewhere, I guess that's an improvement.

I do feel kind of guilty about all of this though. If I'd only said something to my Master about it earlier maybe they could have done something before it was too late. I can only hope that the others don't hate me, especially the Cathars and the Whiphids.>

 

My goodness, this is worse than I imagined!

Perhaps the healers will somehow come up with some sort of treatment before the whole planet is completely bald.

Wow! That had to be awful... quarantine is bad enough as it is, more less when you itch everywhere!
