Subject: I give up
Mood: Despair

Entry:
My braid fell off in the night. I was expecting the day it came to be happy and joyful, but that could not be further from the truth. I was going to treasure as a reminder that I was once a Padawan, but I can't. I can look at it only with disgust, it looks rotten and vile, a thing of nightmares.

I've given up all hopes of keeping any hair at the end of this. All is lost, all is despair. In a bid to at least end my confinement I shall shave my head and watch as the hair burns along with the last remnants of hope that I once had.

This killed me! We can only hope it gets better from here!

The padawan braid fell off? That's depressing. :(

Is any hair going to grow back, I wonder? [face_thinking]

Good job!

I'm pleased to say that the itching has stopped completely now. The Healer that comes round was very pleased to hear this. They're going to keep me confined to my quarters for another week though just to make sure I'm not carrying any of the bugs and that I don't reinfect that whole academy again. I'm not worried about this though, I'd rather stay well on the cautious side. Until the week is up I'll mostly be meditating and thinking about things.

What I did hear is that the Cathars and the Whiphids can somehow make their hair grow back faster by going into some kind of meditative trance. I was told that they got rid of all their hair as soon as they found out that there was no cure and that the bug died quickly without hair. After being given the OK by the healers they moved into joint quarters and began perfecting this trance. They've had some success and, from what I hear, they'll be back to normal in maybe a week or two. It has made me curious to see what they're like without their hair, but there's only one Healer who's seen them and she's been sworn to secrecy. They have tried teaching others their trance but without much success. As much as I'd lament the loss of my hair I think I'd rather let it grow back naturally. I look really weird with no hair, really really weird. I'm only just about able to look at myself in a mirror, but it's still hard to do.

I shouldn't dwell too much on it, it could be worse than it is. As far as I know the infection never left the Polar Station or the Academy. They did quarantine the entire planet causing a lot of disruption, but as most of the traffic is for the Academy and the polar stations it does seem sensible.

I'm beginning to ramble and get random with this so I'm going to get dinner and then look at some of the Jedi literature I've been given, especially the literature concerning the trials. I'll have to do them at some point so I might as well know about them.

Well at least she is spending her time productively.

Hopefully that will help the week pass by quickly.

The entire planet? Must have been a horrible bug...

She must be getting rather impatient to finally leave her quarters by now, I suspect. :p

Entry:
After a thorough check up by the Healer yesterday I was given a clean bill of health. No more being confined to my room! I was so excited I ran up the wall, literally. I did almost land on a Youngling though, which wasn't good. The teacher who was escorting the Youngling yelled at me for being reckless and stupid. The Youngling was fine though, I think he was more amused at seeing someone run up walls more than anything, especially as I kind of flailed around to avoid landing on him. My Master had seen most of what had happened but had hung back, not saying anything. I was told off again by him, as if I need telling off twice. I might still be a Padawan but I'm not a Youngling.

The morning was mostly spent checking my Force skills and my fighting technique. My Master was worried that I might be out of practice, and I was. Mostly I was doing OK, I could do everything asked of my but I just lacked a finesse and the more subtle aspects. My Master likened it to eating at a fine restaurant with the food just heaped on the plate, it's still good but the presentation is lacking.

At lunch I raised the question of the Jedi Trials to my Master. I was concerned about the Trial of the Flesh as it involves the overcoming great physical pain, hardship, or loss. The other Trials don't worry me too much, it's just the Trial of the Flesh. The Trial of Skill is a fight against a more skilled opponent. If you win the fight then you pass the Trial. The Trial of Courage is similar, though it involves fighting or completing a mission with a low chance of success. The Trial of the Spirit seems to be harder than the others, requiring actual thought and contemplation. The other Trials can be passed by shutting off thought and relying on instinct, but the Trial of the Spirit will require me to confront myself. I've heard it can be quite traumatic. After a long discussion my Master said that he thought I was ready and that he would talk to the Council about it. I wasn't too hopeful about the outcome. The rest of the day was more of the same, just going over skills and getting me back in shape.

That was yesterday. Today my Master had some good news. It seems the Council was impressed with the way I had dealt with the hair-eating bug. My Master knew how much I liked my hair and so it seems that losing my hair was my Trial of the Flesh. He told me that most of the others had tried some sort of trick or something to make their hair grow back or at least tried to hide their baldness and that I was the only one who hadn't done anything. At least something good has come of that.

I'm now packing some essentials to prepare for the Trial of Skill. My Master explained how it would work, so I know roughly what to expect. There's an ancient temple in the middle of the Equatorial Dunes, a vast sand desert on the equator. Once there I'll spend a week with one of the Academy's best fighters learning how to fight. My Trial of Skill will come after that.

Yay, the 'worst' trail over already. sounds like a promising start to me.:D
I am glad, i don't have to face all those trails, I'd surely flunk each of them. Here's hoping he does better than me.

I'm glad to see there won't be another trial of the flesh. The poor padawan has been through enough in that area.

I'll spend a week with one of the Academy's best fighters learning how to fight

That sounds a bit ominous. I hope she will excel there as well.

I'm really enjoying the peek into what exactly the trials involve.

Great update

That was really interesting, I've never seen the Trials described like that. :)

My Master likened it to eating at a fine restaurant with the food just heaped on the plate, it's still good but the presentation is lacking.

That was a good description. :D

This is the first chance I've had to write in ages. First there was the training and the trial, and then I couldn't get my diary and my Master was too busy to get it for me, and then I couldn't find time to write in it. At least I have my diary and some quiet to write in it. It's a nice diary, designed to look like a hardback book, complete with a nice cover design. The big difference is that unlike a book this isn't made up of flimsies, it opens up to reveal to screens to show the contents, much like a book but digital. The left screen just displays stuff but the right screen is touch sensitive so I can either write in it by hand or I can turn it on it's side and use it as a keypad with the left screen displaying what I've typed. It's really nice. I've collected other books on my travels so it doesn't stand out on my shelves. I don't have many books, just my favourite texts and a few unusual ones I haven't seen in digital form.

It's been nearly two weeks since my training and my Trial of Skill. There's too much to say about the training and I'm waiting on the holo-recording of the Trial before I write about it, it was intense and a large part of it is just a blur. The injuries are very real though, which is why I haven't been able to get to my diary. They tell me that I was unconscious for a few days, and then the Healers wouldn't allow visitors for another few days. When I was allowed visitors my Master came to see me, I already knew the outcome of the Trial so I just asked him to bring me my diary. He managed to get it to me this morning but the Healers were busy doing whatever it they were doing.

Oh joy, here they come again, and they've got something that'll probably taste as foul as it looks. I'd better put this away.

Those trails seem to be more dangerous that I thought.[face_worried]
I just hope there's still everything to him he needs for the rest of them. And that they let him heal.

Btw, thanks for bringing those trail-thing to my attention. :D

Will we get to know more about the actual trail?
