I'm not even sure I was operating with that knowledge, I just assumed no one would have that kind of money to spend. I didn't think twice when I saw Lloyd's post. I was more concerned with wondering if it would be funny to dump on heels some more for not knowing it wasn't his pick (I decided it would not be).

So anyway, yes, I'm fine allowing this to avoid blowing it all up.

Amazing.

 

I'm also going to have to agree. I'd rather beat Lloyd with his stacked keeper roster than for this to blow up. I'm sure there's a solution out there.

 

#1 pick has been selected, I'm just waiting on word from the Commish on the official start of the draft.

 

Yeah I’m fine with Lloyd getting the keepers as well. I want the Shaqs to play.

 

In an interesting twist, Joe has selected Lloyd as Dottie Hinson. It was a swerve all along!

 

I don't have a vote anymore, but if actually propose completely eliminating the one-paid-keeper rule for everyone. Since there is a max carryover of $150, the practical limit is two anyway unless someone carries over $150, spends nothing for an entire season, gets another $75, and dumps it all on three paid keepers, which would be hilarious and stupid, and ain't gonna happen. So let people get as many as they can afford since you can't really go crazy anyway.

 

I said this last draft, trust dp to ruin everything.

 

Yeah, I'll echo the sentiments and say I'm also fine with Lloyd keeping the picks and getting us going. I mean, who besides Lloyd would want to associate with Fred Carroll anyways?

(Of course, I TOTALLY was NOT mulling over the idea of potentially picking Carroll if he was still on the board in the 5-7th round range, along with posting the Stone Cold and Mr. McMahon shaking hands gif. Definitely not.)

So in all seriousness, in case Lloyd doesn't want to come back in and play again regardless, we probably should consider alternatives...

Cubby's suggestion isn't terrible. I guess logistically, the main hurdle would be that there are players on each of the championship teams from those years that are definitely going to be picked at some point (some are already keepers). So do we remove them from those teams? Or maybe just say that their year from that championship team is ineligible to be picked? If it's the latter, that would reveal what the year we're playing in is prematurely and completely negate the entire reason we're doing it this way.

What's bumming me out most is the trouble we're having getting new players to sign up. It's fun, people! I totally understand being a little intimidated by the length of each season, but... once the drafting is done, a GM can just set some managerial sliders and let their team go on autopilot if they want, then sit back and see what happens. And as we've noted, being a micromanager with this game can actually hurt more than it helps sometimes.

I'm assuming the game has been advertised over in the MLB thread at some point, but was the point about it potentially being a very low effort game stressed enough?

I mean, for me, once the drafting was over, my top three most time consuming moments over the course of the entire previous season were:

3. Around the midpoint of the season, I sat and focused for maybe a solid 45 minutes about what I moves I could make to try and kickstart my offense.

2. Negotiating with tom on the Big Ed/Charlie Bender deal.

And then, finally, by a country mile...

1. Picking out entrance themes for my new players. Which is an insanity specific only to me.

C'mon, lurkers! C'mon @MandaloreYak ! C'mon @Juliet316 ! Not only should we not be struggling to find new players, we should be having to put folks on a waiting list because we can only expand so much before Inty loses a screw or two. More than he's already lost, anyways.

 

i think the bigger problem with the idea of including the world series winner from the year is that they would likely be very terrible in our league and it wouldn't really be fair to the teams in the other division. it wouldn't make that much of a difference, assuming a balanced schedule and every team getting to play them the same amount, but still one division would essentially only have 5 teams competing to win.

The preferable thing is to have Lloyd return after thinking it over. (That's the hope.) I do feel that there should be people knocking on Inty's door to get into this league. Look folks, you don't need to micromanage like I did (am). You don't need to compile spreadsheets with players you're wanting on your team (like I am). You can do exactly what Wang said. Or, you can be a nutcase like I am. It's free. It's fun. And you can do it how you want.

Now, if Lloyd doesn't return, and no one steps up to the plate, I feel there has to be a way to autopilot a team (heck, the Baby Yodas quit immediately after the draft last year). I don't know if it is a random World Series winner from our range of seasons, if it's another random team (say the 1987 Indians, who I'm sure will have zero players drafted but would also suck), or what. But there's a way to get this to work. So let's go!
