Edit: Doesn’t excuse the name but I guess I’m so used to stupid franchise naming conventions I just roll with it.

 

There was a sequel to The Dirty Dozen , they called it The Dirty Baker's Dozen

Yeah, from the trailer I can already see the appeal that Gunn saw in spinning him off into a series. Very curious to see what comes out of that show, alongside the film.

Also of note is the fact that the character wasn't originally a DC creation, but rather, a Charlton Comics one. DC acquired those characters way back when, and Alan Moore was actually planning on using them in Watchmen before he went on to create his own characters there - Peacemaker was going to fill in the Comedian's role there, so that should give you an idea of the sick, twisted outlook that Peacemaker has. There are actually a few other Charlton characters popping up in the Peacemaker show, I believe.

 

Weasel, Savant, Javelin, Blackguard, TDK, Captain Boomerang, and Mongal seem to be the first team that is assembled in the movie. I bet they're sent out and killed, captured, or mind-controlled by Starro before the "main" team made up of the characters more directly focused on in the trailer is sent to search for survivors and deal with the problem on the island for good (the problem which may very well include Starro-facehugged, mind-controlled members of the initial team).

Harley is holding Javelin's javelin at the start of the trailer, which probably doesn't bode well for him.

 

I think we can be 100% certain that Nathan Fillion is being horribly killed off by Gunn...

 

Since he seems to be a version of Arm-Fall-Off-Boy, I hope at least one of his arms sticks around as another character's weapon long after he is gone.

Also, I am very much in the mood to revisit Slither now.

 

Alternative title - Criminals on Parole

 

Even if I didn't know this was directed by James Gunn after watching the trailer I'd have know it was directed by James Gunn. That bag of d**** joke was lingered on and belabored long past the point of being able to be funny, which he tends to do when given full and free reign. It's the main distinction for me between GotG vols 1 & 2 (he had a co-writer in 1, 2 was all him).

This looks like it will be better than the first one but if Gunn can keep those sorts of moments at a minimum it'll be all the better.

 

Gunn wasn't really the co-writer on the first GotG; he was the writer. Nicole Perlman wrote a draft internally at Marvel, which is what got the ball rolling and convinced Marvel that making a GotG movie was a good idea. When Gunn was brought in he was given carte blanche on the project (under the condition that he introduced Thanos and an Infinity Stone) and was allowed to totally rewrite Perlman's spec script – hence the "and" credit (which denotes rewrites without collaboration) between Perlman and Gunn's names rather than an "&" credit (which denotes co-writers). They weren't co-writers, they were separate entities writing separate script drafts, and I believe the only thing he actually retained from her draft was the idea of a prison break (and even the context of that was fundamentally changed), but she had to be credited for her first draft as per the rules of the WGA.

 

I really hope Deadshot shows up in Gunn's movie and says, "What, we some kinda...The Suicide Squad?"

 

"Well, that's kind of our thing."

If I recall correctly, I think he says it in the director commentary. I can't check now, but I can check for a time stamp later on.
