Ahem. Now that I'm done with that, I'll get on with my own nominations. Unfortunately, I don't have a very wide reading selection--mostly a few selected K/J fics, and I almost never touch the Pre-Saga and Saga forums. But I'm proud to say that I've expanded my horizons somewhat since my very-quiet-lurker beginnings, and I found one or two beautiful non-K/J stories deserving nomination. Four, actually. Do you realize how hard it was to pick? I spent days agonizing over it, and as the days passed, I found more and more stories I wanted to nominate . . . darn it, why can't I just nominate them all? [face_wink]

Oh, and one question. I've been noticing several people nominating viggies that were posted after the deadline of June 1--just hypothetically, if those stories get enough nominations, will they go on to the next level, or will those votes be scratched from the list? Because it'd be pretty sad if people nominated a story only to have it scratched from the list . . . but it'd also be kind of weird if an ineligible story was allowed to continue in the nominations. Oh, and if the votes are scratched, will you contact those who nominated ineligible stories and ask them to change their

 

Around 100 people have nominated stories for the awards, and a lot of them (read: I'd guess a third, if not more like half) have nominated stories that are ineligible.

Kit' and Aun and I discussed what we should do with the ineligible nominations. What we decided was that we'd post in this thread reminding people to check their nominations to make sure they're eligible. We did discuss PMing everyone who's nominated something outside the eligibility period, but with so many, it was impractical. Besides, I was afraid that if we went with PMs, we'd miss someone's ineligible nomination, and that wouldn't be fair.

So once again, check the dates. If they're outside the eligibility period, they will be thrown out.

[face_shocked] A third . . . wow, I only found four or five, but then again I wasn't clicking all the links--I was looking at the titles of stories I'd read and realizing that they were posted recently. Yikes. That would mean 33 to 50 ineligible nominations . . . I didn't realize it was that bad.

I'm definitely going to double-check my nominations . . . I checked them before, but another check can't hurt.

As far as ineligible stories being nominated. I had a vignette nominated that was posted after the June 1st date. I PMed all those who nominated it, thanked them, and then asked them to change their nominations so an eligible thread would not be overlooked and their votes would count. I think if the authors see their thread, which is not eligible, nominated they could do the same. On the same note, if anyone skims the nominations and sees someone he or she knows throwing away a vote send them a PM. I know those of you running the awards have enough to do without policing our votes, but the readers can help each other out in that regard.

One of the rules listed in the first page says....

You're allowed to choose one category in the list and nominate up to three stories (or authors or characters, as the case may be) in that category only. For the other nineteen categories, you can only nominate one.

I had noticed that a few people had made multiple nominations in multiple categories.
I had asked Melyanna if they were going to PM people about that and she said they were not (for perfectly understandable reasons -too many to PM among others!!!). I did PM people I knew from the threads I post on and my thread but I'm still not sure if it was appropriate for me to do...The people I did PM thanked me but I felt funny about it and if I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't do it.

TKeira_Lea and dianethx - I thought about PMing them, but, like dianethx said, I think I'd feel really awkward PMing someone and saying "Hi, you can't nominate this story." It sounds so . . . weird. And while I can recognize people's names, I don't really know any of them that well, so I don't know whether I should. I mean, if I were the author of the stories, it would be OK, because the author is the one who is missing out on the votes, except that they couldn't get the votes anyway . . . I'm confused. I'm not sure why, it just feels weird. That, and I'm rather shy, so I feel weird putting myself forward. I don't really know what I should do.

I have Pm'd some of the lovely people who made some erronious noms (not only of my own but of others although the intent is pure, the story may be ineligible with the hope that they would find another piece by the same author so their reconigtion isn't in vain).

If you find an error, there's nothing wrong in offering that kind of assistance, indeed, you're doing both the nominator and the nomenee a favor by making sure that they are getting a fair shake!

Indeed, I found that two of my OWN noms were ineligible... One I could change which story, the other the author posted too late... I Pm'd the one and apologised and explained why (she was going to tell me but I beat her to the punch!) No harm, no foul, and most decidedly no hard feelings!

dianethx and duskwings - I agree with DarthBreezy. I am only suggesting you contact people you are comfortable doing so. I have great relationships with all my readers and did not feel hesitant in contacting them. They have all been extremely appreciative. In fact, it was one of my readers who let me know my vignette was ineligible. Although I was sad about that fact I was grateful he let me know so I could contact the people who had nominated it. It took me hours to do my nominations, and others have said the same thing. I would hate to see all that work be for naught.

Stories are locked after six months of inactivity, so not every story that was completed in December would be locked now.
