18 year limit is essentially one generation.

Public polling has indicated support for term limits over just raw expansion of numbers.

 

It needs to be a constitutional amendment in order for it to work.

 

Indeed. III.1a "The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour." Maintaining "good Behaviour" is the constitutional term limit.

 

I mean I think something in the text of the law explicitly granted them standing. Which I agree doesn't really make sense, but this wasn't an honest attempt at policy-making either.

 

Doesn't the bill kind of get around that but saying that under senior status judges will still hold their office?
It doesn't really remove judges from their office, it merely says that some of them won't get to make any rulings anymore once they have reached senior status.

It might not hold up, even if it did somehow get through (which it won't), but technically the bill seems to take the matter into account.

 

The Supreme Court itself won't see it that way.

 

There's always jurisdictional stripping.

Boris like others had to comport himself to public opinion to a certain extent or else you fall out of favor eventually.

Something Alito as a robed monarch doesn’t give a darn about after joining the court after hiding the extent of his extremism from the Senate hearings, along with some of his brethren.

The true face of Alito couldn’t win a national election.

Some people are saying don't bother because the Court will just strike it down. I say do it and let them strike it down. It will be just another blow to their crumbling legitimacy for them to strike down a bill that would limit their own power. It'll be seen as a decision of naked self-interest everyone who is paying attention.

 

You are one election away from that not really being a concern for another couple of decades at least.

 

As she should. I wasn't aware that Alito grew out a beard. He was ugly to begin with, but now he looks worse. AOC is right. He made a politicized speech, and the Supreme Court has a legitimacy crisis.
