Still they are being represented which means it's not only the Bush Administration.

And when it comes to the everyday opinion of whether Blair should be right for the job, my beloved friend Gemma sums it up perfectly.

You have skipped that point. You have not responded to that point that "European diplomats have questioned Blair's ability to garner broad Palestinian and Arab public support because of his leading role in the Iraq war and his close relationship with U.S. President George W. Bush.".

[edit - and I truly hope you are joking re: "That was class, wish he just said that. Right on Tony!!"]

Some European diplomats have questioned Blair's ability to garner broad Palestinian and Arab public support because of his leading role in the Iraq war and his close relationship with U.S. President George W. Bush.

Also, if you read that Telegraph article is says Russia wasn't initially happy with the idea. In fact, none of the EU, Russia or UN have said they think he's a good choice simply that:

So the World Community is in fact, not in favour of Blair. Russia, EU and the UN will be represented, but, if they're not keen on Blair getting the job, then they won't use him. So far, it is the US and Israel that are in favour.

    Mid-East group debates Blair role

The US has signalled its desire for a role for Mr Blair, but many Arabs see him as too pro-American and Israeli.

    and

The Russians are said to be cool about his possible appointment, but are not expected to block it.

And if our beloved, liberal-biased BBC says it, it must be true ;)

And may I add, I'm really enjoying this debate :D It's nice to have a good, old-fashioned, non-flaming difference of opinion :)

Just because a paper carries a bias does not mean it is completely untrustworthy - else we could never trust ANY media source. They don't make up quotes or events, just put a different spin on them. So someone must have said that - it's just that the Telegraph chose to report it.

And it's Tory, not Torrie. ;)

I've heard a number of examples where people have tried to sue a paper for making up things they said.

And what does it matter if the US supports Blair?
Their leader doesn't exactly know what is good for the world does he? He seems to have enough trouble making coherent speeches.

Tabloids, Richie. Tabloids. The Telegraph is a respected broadsheet newspaper.

No, respected across the board for the quality of its news reports. You can divide the newspapers in this country into their own sections.

Respected broadsheets/newspapers that actually report the news:

    The Times
    The Daily Telegraph
    The Daily Mail
    The Guardian
    The Independent

    and then there's tabloids:

    The Sun
    The Daily Star
    The Daily Mirror
    etc, etc.

And while the Telegraph is one of the two Conservative-slanted newspapers in this country, it tends to limit its political commentary to the comment pages, leaving the news to be reported itself without a slant.

So how much did the Telegraph have to pay George Galloway after printing "untruths"?

George Galloway's a trecherous baboon who deserves everything he gets. And I'd be loathe to put the Daily Mail in the respected column. It may not be a red top, but it's about as relaible as the Mirror.

That's why I added in the /reports the news bit in the title. As a paper its less loath to gossip than acknowledged tabloids, but still not up there in the tier of the Telegraph/Times/Guardian.

Just read up. It's considered a "Middle-market tabloid", alongside the Daily Express, The Mail on Sunday and Sunday Express. A step below the big newspapers, but above common tabloids like The Sun.

I feel a terrible wrong has now been rectified. You may now go about your business.

Most people probably know of this, but out of curiousity I wonder where many people come on the Political Compass.

    Personally, I'm:

    Your political compass
    Economic Left/Right: 0.50
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.92
