We're moving tomorrow but hubby has pulled a calf muscle and my knees are killing me from standing up all day Wednesday for Sports Day and all day Friday for business project fair.

At least we don't need to be out the flat till the 22nd, so we can take things slowly if nessessary.

In the void between stars a com channel opens on a blacked out ship.

*Bernael, Phase 2 of the contract begins now. You know what is required.*

Step 1

Two days after the death of the Supreme Chancellor an encrypted com from a reliable source leaves a message on the datapad of a certain Senator, Aryan Graul. He has been seeking a chance to further his ambitions and this information seems certain to fulfill those ambitions.

*Senator, All is not as it seems with the passing of the Supreme Chancellor. They were in perfect health, monitored constantly, so how could they just die? I suggest an investigation into what happened might be in order. Provided is the name of a certain investigator, who is quite adept at rooting out and discovering the causes behind what may be mysterious deaths, Renn Turon. Contact him, provide him with Senatorial authority, and he will find what truly happened.*

Step 2

Senator Graul, while suspicious of any anonymous messages with such content decided that such information was worth investigating. Therefore he researched the investigator's background, contacted him and provided the necessary paperwork. With such in hand, Renn approached the Medical facilities of the Chancellor’s office. There he handed over the paperwork to be verified, requested access to the Chancellor’s body, and waited for permission.

After a full day, the permission is granted as several other Senators also believe it should not have been possible for the Chancellor to just die. Once the permission is given, he works with the medical examiner, providing information based on other cases he says he has solved. Eventually it does emerge that a minuscule trace of the virus is found.

This information throws the entire Senate and the Senatorial Guard into a flurry of activity, but in the end, as Renn is already investigating and is an outside investigator, it is allowed that he continue his investigation to show the populace that there is no inside attempt at playing politics with the death.

Step 3

Having known, beforehand, that the trace would be found and what such trace meant, Renn heads offworld, presumably to track down the source of the virus. Once in deep space, he sends out a barrage of coms, knowing he is being observed, to different sources. Buried among the overwhelming amount of messages sent is one, seemingly unimportant.

*Irto, I must ask your assistance. A trace of virus has been found in the death of the Chancellor. Please advise if you have any information.*

Step 4

A message is received, once again on the blacked out ship between the stars, the same message sent by Renn. There were perhaps 3 people in the galaxy who knew who the recipient truly was. The ship takes course to a world in the Unknown Regions, where a small facility existed on a world bereft of any intelligent species. Landing outside the facility, Bernael enters, takes a turbolift deep underground, and then heads down a tunnel to a small medical facility.

Inside, there is a bacta tank and a slab of carbonite, containing a figure. Entering the code to begin the thawing process, Bernael waits. When the carbonite releases its load, it can be seen that the figure inside bears an identical likeness to the person Bernael appeared to be when he visited Coruscant recently. Indeed it was, an assassin that had once walked the galaxy, but at one point interfered with Bernael while he was engaged in a mission. Instead of erasing his competition from existence Bernael had simple stopped his heart, then frozen him in carbonite, using his face and persona, when it was necessary to not be himself.

He placed the body in the bacta tank, not to heal and revive the corpse, but simply to remove any traces that the body had been stored in carbonite for years. As this took several days, he waited patiently, working up a series of entries that would demonstrate in, of course falsely, exquisite detail that he had been doing his own end of the investigation for Renn, should anyone delve into what happened in the future.

When the tank gave acknowledgement that the process was done, Bernael loaded the bacta tank onto an old cargo ship, the body still inside.

Step 5

Leaving the Unknown Regions, Bernael flew to Sullust, landing near an abandoned, underground town. He entered, descending to the town and made his way to a, mostly, intact building with the bacta tank in tow. He dressed himself in a full decontamination suit before he removed the body from the tank, cleaning and drying it before dressing it in the garments he had worn while on Coruscant, all traces of his genetic material removed from them.

He left the identification of the body in its garments, and then, flung the body around the building, creating the appearance that the assassin had been in a scuffle before his death. Exiting, Bernael made his way back to the cargo ship, again with the bacta tank in tow, before sending a message, with the records of his investigation attached, to Renn.

*Renn, I have traced the virus and believe I know who used such means of assassination. I have traced him to Sullust and have left a coded beacon near where I believe him to be.

Step 6

Renn, receiving dozens of messages back on a daily basis made a show of examining each as they came in, while he waited for a specific one. Once he received the message he had been patiently waiting for he took course to Sullust.

Knowing he had very little time, he approached, following the coded beacon, and landed. Entering the underground town, he soon found the body and, like Bernael, roughed up the former assassin, leaving his own genetic material on the body, so any evidence would show that it was he who had fought the assassin.

Before the, certain, approach of the ship that had followed him, he made a short voice recording, modifying the vocal patterns so that it appeared to be his interrogation of the assassin. A copy made, he transmitted that to his ship to be sent on to Senator Graul’s office and to a media contact on Coruscant.

Step 7

As anticipated, when he exited, a second ship was touching down next to his. The insignia on the side gave proof who had been following and observing him, the Senatorial Guard. He waited as a troop of them, with an officer following descended the ramp and approached.

When questioned, he explained that he had received a message that a known assassin, one who had been known to use a similar system of viruses, had taken refuge on Sullust. He had come, found him, fought him, then interrogated him, before the suspect had died. Renn then transferred the voice recording to the officer's datapad and watched as he listened, his face paling with the information provided.

Step 8

Events were already in motion as the assassin’s body flew back to Coruscant, in the Senatorial ship, followed by Renn’s ship. He anticipated many questions, especially with what was in the voice recording. He had spoken to Bernael before he had received the message from Senator Graul, and they had devised what would be the best outcome.

Certain neutral Senators, ones who were neither allies or detractors to the previous Chancellor, nor adversaries of Senator Graul, had been named as those behind the assassination, to put one of their own in the High Seat. By the time the ships arrive at Coruscant, the news had already circled the planet multiple times, as the second message sent to the media contact had been published, leading to the arrest of the Senators in question.

Of course the Senators denied the allegations, but what had also passed between Bernael and Renn, as well as data in the records of Bernael's investigation, allowed enough scant clues as to keep suspicion pointed at them, namely that the dead assassin had worked for each, on previous occasions.

Step 9

When the ships landed on Coruscant Senator Graul was waiting to greet his investigator and thank Renn for having worked diligently to uncover the truth behind the assassination of the Chancellor. With the media present, holocameras hovering everywhere, it was a defining moment for the Senator.

He was the first to publicly believe something was amiss, had the forethought to engage an outside investigator, free of Senatorial politics, to discover the truth, and his investigator had succeeded, to all apparent evidence.

Within hours the holonet was filled with Senators, nobles, even gatherings of the general public, all clamoring for such an upstanding defender of the Alliance to be named the next Supreme Chancellor. Faced with such an outpouring of support, the Senate convened and with an overwhelming majority proclaimed Aryan Graul Supreme Chancellor.

Step 10

Renn, his work done, departed Coruscant enroute toward independent territories. Once outside of Alliance space, he notified Bernael that everything had proceeded as anticipated.

Bernael, received this message, a flat smile flitted across his face, as a talon tapped on his mask, while it lay on the command console.

One last thing remained, and a com message flashed across space, to it's recipient.

*Phase 2 of the contract has been fulfilled and the planned outcome has come to pass….My Emperor.*

In terms of the assignment itself, you have put together a very comprehensive plan. You have taken the initiative to step above and beyond what I expected of you to carry this out without being prompted. I admire that kind of ambition – nicely done, my apprentice! I would also like you to include a short description (a paragraph or two) why you've made those choices. I will accept both PCs and NPCs.
