Just caught the end of the Johnson/Corbyn debate on ITV.

So... much... empty... waffle...

 

I decided farting around on the internet was a more productive use of my time - also see my above post for a likely accurate summary of it.

 

They were both so bad.

 

This is actually just sort of universally true about all debates in human history. Oh, people try to deny this, they’ll cite Cicero and Verres, or Sun Ce and the Taoist Priest, or Coke and Pepsi, but people had no Internet back then, what the hell else were they going to do? These days we can honor the struggles and sacrifices of past generations by ignoring debates entirely.

What was it that Boris said during the debate, about honesty being important in the election?

 

Yeah, they're transparently honest about being dishonest. What are people going to do if they don't like it, not vote for them?

 

I tried watching it but it was hopelessly dull.

 

I didn't bother - figured the news would hit the high points.

 

Swinson doing badly on BBC QT now.

 

Corbyn and Sturgeon were quite strong.

Swinson was always on the backfoot with the coalition as an Achilles heel as there is so much muck they can throw at her.


I think she's doing OK at best and I say this as a Lib Dem supporter but Corbyn and Sturgeon were far stronger.

Part of me knows that was her job as moderator, but another part of me thinks that she should have let that go on and on to be twenty minutes of car crash TV. Here Boris was, being held accountable by a member of public over his shady behaviour.

It's in Sheffield and on the BBC. So Boris' supporters will just chalk that massacre we just watched down to being a debate rigged by radical lefties, then ignore it.

 

Exactly. If I were in the audience, I'd gladly forego my question in return for an obviously intelligent and eloquent member of the audience being allowed to challenge and grill Johnson.

 

Trust me, I know.

But it's still the excuse that the Tories and their apologists go to whenever they're made to look like... well like how they looked tonight.
