Sorry for the double, but this is an interesting talk (over an hour long, so put it on in the background)

He probably plans to declare bankruptcy and walk away from the country- that's how he's done business for decades, cheat other people out of their money then walk away before they can get their money back.

And am I reading their budget plan right? They plan to transfer airports to public or private entities? As if the states have so much money lying around to be able to handle them (especially after the tax scam). As well as power and water facilities? Unless this is another way of selling out the country to Russia, to have those important infrastructure bought up by foreign powers.

I really hope people are paying attention this November, but even if they vote smarter this year, I half expect votes from Democratic states will be "misplaced" at the rate they're going. Or something will just happen to their computer systems due to "bad luck".

Are you in that camp, with V03 and dp4m and others, who think that the Democrats being in power would make the country a better place?

Well, it would be an improvement over the current situation, probably. Perfect? Of course not. A better place? Well, at least it wouldn't be going over the cliff as quickly.

I expect this is the part where you list all the reasons why the Democrats are bad too. They're far from perfect or even great, but that's still much better than the Republicans.

Trump won because of voter suppression laws. 5 of the 7 swing states Hillary lost had new voter suppression laws. Trump won because America is not a legitimate Democratic Republic.

Getting rid of Trump would be a band aid on a slit throat. America cannot be fixed because Americans are terrible people.

I guess my point is - you're in this position not because of Trump, but because of the Democrats, so I don't see how wishing for them is anything more than foolish. Having a steady hand on the till whilst you sail over the edge is preferable to a raving madman taking his hand off the till how?

    @Nobody145

That is been the dream of the Tea Party for years. Bankrupt the government and start over. Too bad it doesn’t work like that. And as I told a “deficit hawk” the other day, remember Obama and Boehner had essentially come to an agreement on a massive budget deal that would leave tax cuts relatively speaking where they were at (but get rid of some of the loopholes) in return to some major budget cutting in order to start putting the country back on path towards balance budgets/paying down the debt. But Boehner had to walk away because the Tea Partiers went through the roof over the mere idea of keeping taxes a smidge higher in order to pay down the debt and get budget cuts they supposedly so want.

The Democrats want to spend money like a drunken sailor but at least try to pay for it. The Republicans want to spend money like a drunken sailor and put it all on a charge card.

Oh come on, Nancy Pelosi, Senator Wall Street and Tom Perez are clearly reform-minded. That's why they attempt to shut down every moderately left Berniecrat they set their sights on. Those radicals with their absurd ideas like expanding Medicare to all Americans or guaranteeing a livable income to everyone or banning corporate campaign contributions. No, the status quo only needs minor tweaks that don't help most struggling Americans all that much but can be used in campaign sound bites.

This is also where J-Rod recoils at your defence of left-wing positions such as a minimum wage or having socialised medicine, without knowing these were centre-right policies.

Same words, different countries - UK vs US:

    Autumn - Fall
    Car Park - Parking Lot
    Tap - Faucet
    Lift - Elevator
    Post - Mail
    David Cameron - Barack Obama

It would, Ender. Not perfect or even passable in many ways, but certainly better than it is now.

Not having a climate denier in love with fossils fuels alone would be a major step up. Also, none of the Democrats I am aware of are itching for war with Iran or North Korea.

So yes, Democrats are better than Trump. I know you hate all Americans equally, but try not to let that blind you to the differences between the two parties. They exist, and on many important issues, are substantive.

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/12/politics/jeff-sessions-anglo-american-law-enforcement/index.html

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday brought up sheriffs' "Anglo-American heritage" during remarks to law enforcement officials in Washington.
"I want to thank every sheriff in America. Since our founding, the independently elected sheriff has been the people's protector, who keeps law enforcement close to and accountable to people through the elected process," Sessions said in remarks at the National Sheriffs Association winter meeting, adding, "The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement."
"We must never erode this historic office," Sessions continued.

    Calling out hypocrisy, mostly.

But I've always thought we should try to get a budget surplus, even if it's not an immediate concern. Tax/entitlement reform should have been about how to raise revenue: carbon tax, financial transaction tax or bank risk fee, eliminate mortgage interest deduction for more than 1 household, end oil subsidies, end farm subsidies to unhealthy foods, lift the cap for Social Security, etc.

We should do massive infrastructure investment, but that's more of a one-time expense, but Trump wants to permanently raise military spending.

I have no love whatsoever for the Democratic Party but literally anyone that Trump and his supporters consider “left wing”, as wrong as they are about that, is better than Trump.

“Better than Trump” is not exactly a high bar to set but if that’s the bar we’re going with, yes, the Democrats are better.

They're not trying to bankrupt the country. They're trying to bankrupt the social services programs and do so in a way that the Democrats get blamed for it.

It's been their (successful) plan since Reagan - when the Republicans are in control, give the people tax cuts (well, a facsimile of tax cuts for the poor and middle class) and let the deficit skyrocket. When the Democrats get back into power, go on a rampage about how the deficit is out of control, and get the Democrats to reluctantly support cutting public programs, making them the bad guys. Rinse and repeat. It's what Bush Sr. derided as "voodoo economics"... at least until he got the VP nod, at any rate.
